How to make a private torrent on Transmission? Back when I was on windows I used to do it on utorrent. I remember that you had to put [URL] for the announce url. I figured it would be the same thing on Transmission, but it's not working. Did I skip something, or do something wrong? Or is there a whole different way to do it on Transmission? It's been a while since I've done this.

So, I employed the update. Problem is, I do not see this as an installed application. TRANSMISSION is not listed in any submenu under the Applications menu OR Add/Remove.
i install ubuntu for 2nd time, i use transmission app to download a torrent for my computer, but in this time that program block, and don't let me download waht i want. the program stay grey and not responding.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi would really like to install Natty from scratch (i always prefer clean installs than upgrade) , but i am seeding 1500 torrents in transmission most of them sorted in directories, and manually adding them again is a big big pain.and will take alot of time.is there a way i can keep the config file or whatever so i dont have to manually add them all? so that i just add it in the new transmission folder and all torrents appear.i assume one way is to keep the /home folder?? but then what if i want a complete clean new install and this is the only thing i want to keep from the old installation?

I was downloading 2 files. I opened raw package which, at the time I didn't have BT or FDM or any other type of transmission at that point I shutdown system. I'm assuming it picked up after restarting computer. Anyway what I really want to know is if I only shutdown os and not the transmission, when does it actually stop?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have quite fast Internet connection, 100mbit, and I'm able to take advantage of the entire bandwidth that I'm paying for. When I, however, use Transmission as torrent client and download a torrent faster than, 7-8 Mbyte/second, my hard drive is spinning all the time and my desktop becomes sporadically unresponsive, load average gets high and I'm pretty much sure the Transmission-application is the cause to this, somehow. It must be some strange way it cashes stuff...I don't know.
I'm, either way, not experiencing anything like that with any other torrent client in Linux (or Windows for that matter). It's not that I'm tied to Transmission, in fact, I prefer rtorrent and use it anytime I can, it's just that some stupid torrent sites are giving me Transmission as the only client option when I'm using Linux, so I have to stick to it those times. I have quite fast system, Core Duo 3ghz, 4gb ram, 500 gb 7200rpm 16MB cache WD hard drive, etc...so the hardware certainly shouldn't be a problem.
How do I stop one user account from being able to read files in another user account.
Right now once i log in, I can easily navigate to /home/[username] and copy/read any file. How do I make it thus that only /home/[username]/shared is allowed to be read/copied.
I would also like to prevent listing of directories.
I have a fresh install of Kubuntu 11.04 and I already have the lastest ecryptfs-utils installed. I have the ".Private" folder but not the "Private" folder.
When I try to set it up I get this error:

How do I get my "Private" folder to appear? I don't think I should just be throwing my stuff into ".Private" and I don't want to have to see all the hidden folders all the time either. Should I use the --force argument, and what would that do?
Ubuntu's bittorrent client, Transmission, failed with the error message "Couldn't add duplicate torrent". Since this was a similar torrent to one which I had abandoned earlier I thought there might be a caching problem or some silly bug in transmission. Not knowing where Transmission stores its data I tried a quick x by completely un-installing, including configuration files, from Synaptic, and then re-installing. This did not work and the same error message appeared when trying to download the same torrent.

I have been tying to update Transmission 1.75(9117) to the lasted version (transmission-1.92) but i can't seem to get the Synaptic Package Manager to find it. I have downloaded transmission-1.92 and extracted it on to the desktop but Synaptic Package Manager still can't find it.

When I try to open Transmission I get a message: "Couldn't open "/home/shai/.config/transmission/lock": Permission denied", and the only way to open it is by using gksudo.
I read on another thread that I need to delete that file, but the file doesn't exist.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed many different versions on Ubuntu, many different times and I've never had a problem with transmission... untill now. I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 ( I was already previously using 10.04) and I updated and set up transmission but when I tested the port it said it was closed. This has never happened before.
I tried changing the port about 15 times but it says they are all closed. So I tried opening one..

... but still nothing. I have no firewall running and everything else works fine. Transmission was working before, on the same ports, same version of transmission, and same version of Ubuntu. Nothing has changed.
UPDATE: Actually it's version 2.04 not 2.0, guess the site i followed was a little dated.
so i was a little hasty in upgrading Tranmission to version 2.0 and after a while i noticed that the new version is really slow especially for public torrents my question is; is it possible to downgrade to version 1.93?
i followed these command to install the new version.

I am using ubuntu netbook edition 10.04 on acer aspire one. My wireless is working perfectly when I am surfing the net or downloading ..... videos however when I use transmission (bit torrent) it will download for awhile then my wireless will not work and yet it shows that it is connected...then I have to reconnect again then the torrent starts downloading for awhile usually 1-2 mins then the wireless will fail again.
An interesting point to note: When I connect the ethernet cable to my netbook, bit torrent download perfectly it only happens when i'm using wireless. It is annoying how I have to physically connect my netbook to the modem to download bit torrent files.
