I have made a drive image with Clonezilla only to find out that it was split in to 2GB images.how can I "Join" or assemble these into a single image? This has been making me crazy for days. PS Clonezilla used dd to create these images....

View 2 Replies View RelatedOooookay, so basically the idea I have is that I would like to boot Windows XP over an AoE connection. This is no issue, however the problem comes when I want to have a single, read-only image as the base image and want to be able to boot multiple computers off this image.Licensing issues aside (let's assume that this complies with all licensing issues, or we can think of it as just a conceptual "how could we do this"), the basic issues are thus:Each boot of Windows will require a writable AoE device...The original disk image must be read-only to avoid changes in 1 boot affecting all boots(As far as I know) The AoE device must be a disk image, or some block device rather than a mounted file system (if this is not so, aufs could be used)So the long and the short of this, from what I can tell is that we need a read only device that we can write to.
At the end of a session, the changes to the device will be discarded, so these can be thought of as simple temporary sessions. This means that there is little concern with having changes to the original read-only image effecting the modifications to the "duplicate" images.
I would like to avoid duplicating the image for each instance, however if no solution can be reached then this could be a possibility (every boot, we can copy the image, give the fresh image to the new boot and remove when done)Optimally, changes to the filesystem will be written to a different filesystem (much like what aufs does, however as stated earlier, afaik aufs only deals with 2 mounted file systems, whereas we need the end result to be an image or block device)Sorry if I havn't explained this particularly well, however I've been trying to think of solutions, caveats and generally how to define the problem as I was writing. If you think that this idea is ridiculous because software x handles the problem better, I'd be very pleased to hear about it, but the basic requirement of temporary, network bootable windows xp sessions still applies.
I have recovered a whole dying hard drive using the command ddrescue, only 8192 byte out of 4.3 gigabyte are unreadable.I have used the command (gnu) ddrescue /dev/sdb DiskImage.img..But unfortunatly this way i have a full-disk image that is not mountable... ( or at least i don't know how to mount it ), and the disk doesn't seem to work anymore that good... ( crack crack crack... ).To see the partitions inside the "big" file, i have used fdisk -l, and damn there is only one partition, but how can i mount the content???
I know i could use photorec foremost or similar software, but since the disc image is almost perfect, i would be able to preserve file names, paths and dates...The last idea would be to mount it as a full-drive image with Virtualbox... But transferring data would be quite annoying.

When I use
$ sudo mdadm --assemble /dev/md0 /dev/sdb /dev/sdc /dev/sdd
mdadm: /dev/md0 has been started with 3 drives.
So the setup works. But I want to do it the proper way with UUID.

trying to troubleshoot an issue i'm having with MDADM I have a raid 5 array consisting of 5 2tb Western Digital Green drives. It has been working fine for the last 6-7 months but recently has stopped working. After rebooting i get an error something like "unable to mount /mnt/storage" which is the filesystem on the raid array the raid array is /dev/md0 when i do a " sudo mdadm --assemble --scan" i get the error mdadm: /dev/md0 assembled from 3 drives - not enough to start the array all the drives are there and i can see the correct partition information if i load them up in parted.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) and I'm using mdadm 3.1.4. I have created a RAID 10 using imsm as the metadata, and this runs successfully if I assemble the RAID from the command line. My question is: How do I get the RAID to auto assemble when I boot the system? I would like to be able to mount the RAID when the system starts up (but the OS is on a separate disk altogether). What I've found out so far is that I must do a Code: update-initramfs -k all -u AFTER I've modified the /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf file. This is what I've got in my configuration file:

BUT what happens is that when I reboot my server, and then do "ls -l /dev/md*" there is no listing at all for any RAID devices. I actually have to run the assemble command on command line and that is when I see listings for RAID devices under /dev. What am I missing?
I cant seem to get my RAID 5 (consisting of 8 1tb hard drives) assembled for some reason and I have no idea why and cant find any solutions online. Ill go ahead and show what my problem is:

So as you can see the array for those last four look fine however for the first four it marks the last four drives as faulty for some reason. I am kind of clueless to do from this point on honestly, I have data on this array that I'd really like to save.
I would like to use tcc to compile source, but not assemble. Like GCC's option: -S. Is this possible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an mdadm/lvm2 volume with 4 HDs that I created in Ubuntu 10.04. I just upgraded the computer to Ubuntu 10.10.
I redid the mdadm commands to get volume up and running, did mdadm --detail --scan > /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf to get the configuration file.
But now, every time I reboot, it tells me that the volume is not ready. /proc/mdstat says that I always have one disk of the volume "inactive" as md_d127. I need to stop this volume and reassemble the whole thing to get it working.
This is what I get out of mdadm --detail --scan and put inside /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf:
And this is my /proc/mdstat on boot:
I need to do mdadm -S /dev/md_d127, mdadm -S /dev/md127, mdadm -A --scan to get this volume working again.
This did not happen with Ubuntu 10.04. I'm really fearing the loss of my raid5 data now.
As per [URL] I built a RAID6 array. yay. In the end it completed.

I have question about the UNIX sockets. my goal is to connect multiple sockets from a single client to a single server and keep them open...I'm not sure if that is possible to create or not. Do you have any suggestion or an example of code?

I am trying to join them all to a big .pdf, so that I end up with one e-book per comic instead of a bunch of single images. I already tried importing it to Open Office, but that way I will have to rescale every single image to fit a page, which would take ages.

....the result being only 1 of the video files combined but the overall file size is equivalent to the 2 files combined together.
When playing dvd's, vob files and wmv files, the image comes with high contrast colors ,very intense red/green/blue. very dark too. I have vlc 1.1.4 installed, using ubuntu 10.10, libdvdcss2 installed. for the rest of the video formats it seems to work fine. any ideas on what should I start debugging?

Im just a Windows schlep new to Linux. I dont even know where to find things like /etc/nsswitch.conf--winbind, let alone how to edit them.

I was given a forensic Image which I now know is a DD image of the drive (Vista) and am trying to mount the image or extract the image to another drive. I'm not sure of the extention type or if the image is a partition or the entire drive. I think it is the entire drive.
Is it possible to mount a DD image to a device. If I can't do that I just want to extract the files to run some programs against the drive. Can I view the files under Ubuntu or do I have to remove the drive and stick it into a Vista computer.
I purchased a second drive today and was hoping the command line would be something simple.
Or am I on the wrong track, should I be doing this all in a windows environment. The reason I picked ubuntu was because of the reporting tools.
I'm using a pppoe internet connection, when enter connection manually everything works fine but when connect automatically on startup (put script in ect/init.d/) the connection is ok and works, but applications can't join internet like firefox, chrome, only terminal and lynx browser can use internet! ping responds are OK
