is there an app, runs in Fedora, with a GUI, that can join multiple mp3s into a large single file?
I know Audacity can do this, but it's not really suitable for multiple files and I have voice notes that are in 10 minute chunks.
i have started using linux for less than 6 months. now i have come across a problem with pdf files in linux. i want to join different pages from different pdf files into single pdf file.i have come across softwares that do this but they perform this using page numbers from pdf files.but i need to do this based on keywords in different pages .for eg there 3 pdf files

As the file is keeping changing all the time, I have to shutdown mysql instance and copy the large data file to other server as quickly as possible.I should have to find a way to speed up file copying ... I'm wondering whether there's a way to copy file block by block.If the destination side block has same content, then bypass it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI work for a school consulting company.We helped a school deploy about 1500 computers.The computers have windows XP but we have been using G4L for the restore partition on the drives.So far the software works great. We did however run into a problem in that many of the computers we deployed are missing the restore partition. The reason they are missing is long and convoluted and not really that important. What I have been charged to do is try and fix the restore partition problem. One solution that I had, which im not even sure if it will work, was to backup the recovery file, that g4l created, to DVD and write a basic script to recreate the partition and then copy the file over. This process would need to be as automated as possible since this disc will be inserted by the end user(the students). The backup file that g4l created is 5.9GB so it wont fit on just one disc and Dual layer discs are too expensive to use for this project, so the file will either need to be compressed again (not sure if that's a good idea or not) or split across two DVD's.
I have searched the forums here and I was not able to find anything to fix this problem. I was able to find some info on splitting files across two discs but im not sure how to use that to fix my problem.
I have files a, b, c and d. They're all relatively large and are served up by a static web server optimized for this purpose. I can get requests that look like this:

/bacdac
...
Each request is basically a request for a concatenation of the files in the order of the letters. The list of possible requests is finite, but large enough that disk space will run out very quickly and be very expensive if I create all possible files via concatenation.Is there a way to create a pointer file like abcd that is essentially a multi-file symlink that first points to a then to be then to c then to d? So if the contents of the files were as follows:
a: hello
b: there
c: whats

how to update a series of values from multiple grep commands outputs to be appended to a single row of a csv file? Work on a linux envir. The values from grep output will be numeric values.
Output sold look like:

Each of these values will be odtained from multiple grep commands piped with wc -l Is it possible to update a single row of a csv file if so pleas ehelp me with the command to be used to redirect the output into the csv file
I have a huge binary log file. There are lets say 4 id's that I want to find in a log file. I know that those 4 id's will be present in the log file and I also know in what order they will be present. I want to find 1st id from the log then 2nd id and then third id and so on..
Simple/inefficient solution is: Loop through the id's and then grep in the log file. Problem with this solution is for each id grep will search from the beginning of the file.
Better/efficient solution would be: Sine I know the order in which id's will be present in the log file. Loop through id's, grep 1st id and then move on to grep 2nd id and so on...this way I can grep all id's in one pass. Is this solution possible ?
I have 500000 + values to find in log files and I have to find efficient solution for it.
I am using Xfce as the desktop enviroment and Mozilla Firefox as the webrowser. Within the webrowser window, I do File>Save Page As. I save it, and the result is almost always foo.html and directory foo_files. But I think under KDE I could choose the format, one of them being something like "Single page" (only one file; the colecction of .png, etc is embedded into that file). And this is the format I want Xfce (or Firefox) to use when downloading to hdd.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a large image that I want to print over 4 pages, each page showing 1/4 of the overall image, that I will past together. I'm doing this from GIMP on an up-to-date fc12 system. Searching around I find that there is a "scale" field in the print dialog and the lp command that cups supports and according to the documentation if I set scale to "200%" it should do what I want.However, when I set scale to 200% I get only one page with the upper left 1/4 of the page and then nothing. How do I get it to print the remaining 3 pages?

One is eth0:0~eth0:n nd another is eth0-range0. All are configs under network-scripts. But neither of them worked for me. Even grabbing a working example from my live server doesn't do the trick (though the server is a CentOS 5.5).

View 4 Replies View RelatedCan ANYONE point me in the right direction on how to use storage on multiple servers as a single cluster?I thought storage cluster was for that but, after much googling, and even more help from here, I don't think that achieves my goal. My goal is to have multiple servers share a file system, to act as somewhat of a network raid, so if node-A goes down the files are available on other nodes, and hopefully so when the capacity of the nodes are reached I can add nodes to expand the "cluster".

I've searched on issues of multiple DHCP servers in one LAN. Just about everything is Windows or Novell based stuff. Also, the typically asked scenario is 2 or more DHCP servers for failover purpose (one goes down, the other takes over).
What I want to do with DHCP is different. My purpose would best be described as "administrative separation". Basically, if a given MAC address is configured on a specific DHCP server, that server should be the one to answer and not the other. The problem with that is that we also need a default to handle unknown MACs. So the DHCP server without the MAC configured would be answering, anyway, even if it is the only one configured to do global leasing. Timing would then be the determining factor.
The purpose is to set up a bunch of PXE network booting using program generated DHCP configuration. This server won't always be up, so it can't be used for general purpose. The DHCP server for general purpose is part of a wireless system, and it is configured by GUI and is impractical for the programmed PXE booting.
how to make these work together with everything being on the same LAN segment?

Are there any tools out there that let me select a bunch of data and burn it to multiple cd's or DVD's? I'm using k3b but have to manually select cd and dvd size amounts.

I tried to tar and then split; however, I don't have enough room on my hard-drive to make a compressed tar and split it up and then burn to disk, so I need a way to tar the and compress the directory, split it, and burn to disk every 4.3GBs.
I went ahead and installed DAR as an alternative, as I hear it is designed for this type of task, but I can't figure out which way is heads or tails.

I have a large collection of pictures (12GB and growing) - way too big to fit on one CD or DVD.I want to back them up to CDs or DVD's in standard (I think it's iso 9660) format that Windows can read.I know how to do this the hard way - by manually selecting a pile of pictures that will fit on one disc, burning it and then going on to the next pile.There must be a way to tell k3b or a similar program to do this for me - to automatically make a backup of the whole thing using as many discs as necessary.Can anyone tell me how to do this?
I don't want to use tar or another archive/compression scheme because I want the pictures accessible to someone with minimal technical expertise who doesn't even know how to spell "Linux".
I haven't used Fedora or anything except Windows in my entire life. I decided I would wipe my windows machine and try out Fedora 14.
I did a fresh install, rebooted the computer, and inserted a disc containing the following software: Medialink Wireless-N USB 2.0 adapter Model MWN-USB150N. It a wireless USB adapter so that I can connect to the Internet.
I can't get a single file on the disc to open. The disc is fine because it opens on Windows just fine. When I try to load it here I either get: Unexpected Error: Error reading from file. or An error occurred while loading the archive or There is no application installed to run executable files. I can't do any updates I guess until I get connected to the Internet.
I have all of my music stored on my computer in mp3 form (except for a few songs, which are some weird file type, I'm not sure why, anyway). I just recently switched from Ubuntu 10.10 Linux to Fedora 14 Linux. I was able to open, play, and burn CDs with all of my music on Ubuntu, however on Fedora, it is saying that I am missing a plug-in for mp3s, however when I click the button to search for it, it can't find anything.I really need to burn a CD, so I really need a fix for this quick!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Ubuntu install on an 8Gb SDHC Card, customized for my Toshiba NB205. It took quite a bit to get sound and BT working, but now it's fine. Just out of curiousity, I used this same SDHC Card to boot my Dell D610 -- it booted, and sound and WiFi worked fine. I was surprised. There was a single error message after the desktop appeared, but I didn't record it.
I am now wondering: is it practical to use a single USB installation with multiple devices? I can imagine a number of complications, but was surprised that my attempt worked on two very different hardware platforms. There was discussion, when pendrives first appeared, of being able to use one to boot any PC to your own USB-based OS, bypassing any other OS installed on the PC.
We can add multiple IP address on a single NIC. Is there any limitation that is how many ip address I can add on a single NIC card??
