General :: Which LXDE Version Has The Newest Version Of Firefox And Open Office

Sep 17, 2010

Which LXDE version of Linux has the newest version of Firefox and Open Office included?

I am looking for an iso file, and I am trying to run this off of a live CD for now. So I want a light version of Linux, probably LXDE, or if not, then probably XFCE. But I need a new version of Firefox and OpenOffice included.

Because, I tried burning the customizable NimbleX @ custom.nimblex.net . Pretty good, except it uses Firefox 2, and Open Office 2.3, which are outdated.

And I tried Mint XFCE, which might have been pretty good too, but it had some issue of blanking and requiring relogin after I opened hotmail frequently (user id: mint, password: blank).

The web browser and the word processing program are the most important and essential applications to me.

So are there any Linux versions in LXDE on LiveCD that include newer versions of Firefox (or at least another good browser) and Open Office (oo seems better than abi)? (Again, if no LXDE, perhaps XFCE?)

I just want to download a good version in an iso file, and burn it to a CD and get to work. Like I said the web browser and the word processing program are all important.

So really, what iso/LiveCD versions are the fastest for running on an older system, and yet have the newest browser and word processor included?

Ubuntu :: Recover Old Version Of Open Office Text (.odt)?

Jan 14, 2010

I had an open office document text and accidentally over-wrote it with a completely different file! i am not sure how it happened but it seems like I "saved link as" from a browser and accidentally double clicked on the existing file - and it now contains the text I was downloading.

does ubuntu save old versions of documents? does open office have a revert function? i really need the document that was lost and it seems like this problem is way too easy to make for there not to be safeguard,

General :: Install Open Office 3.3.0 - Or Any Other Version?

Jun 9, 2011

I can't even begin to explain what i've been through trying to do this. I've been trying for a week now..not just a few minutes a day..

I've managed to destroy the Synaptic Program Manager. Nothing at all comes up.

I've been through several tutorials...I've become the master at "command not found" even when I copy it and paste it to the terminal.

I've been working daily on Ubuntu for about a month, but and I've regressed instead of progressed.

I've installed software which I can't find. It's been one failure after another. I live in a small town where NOBODY knows how to use Ubuntu..

Fedora :: Open Office - Mixed Package Version

May 20, 2010

I'm running fedora 12, am a relatively new user, and downloaded OO 320. package is 9483. I installed it before I realized fedora already included an OO version. Now, I click the icons and nothing happens. I looked at the desktop-integration area, and see the package for the icons is 7823? Yum will now neither update, nor remove OO. I hate having to revert to Windows to do some of my work.

General :: Running Open Office Developer Version

Feb 3, 2011

What's the actual command I run to run OOo developer version download: OpenOffice.org Developer Builds and Release Candidates the last entry, "Snapshot...". I'm curious to see if some of the bugs they are saying are fixed are fixed in that version. I have it installed, and I know they do not have "desktop-integration" for a reason, but they don't actually tell you what the physical terminal command to run it is.

General :: Future Of Open Office - Latest Version

Oct 23, 2010

Since open office is now bought by oracle I am confused about the state of the latest version of OO version 3.2 I think. Would it be legal to install that version on a computer. Oracle perhaps made a bummer with this. The real dev community is thrown out and we are again looking at corporate greed taking precedence for their own profit rather than development of technology. I have high hopes from libre office but then one more open source product (it was not sun's to begin with remember) being swallowed by a corporate.

Software :: Microsoft Office Version Control Compatibility With Open Source Word Processing

Jan 27, 2011

I'm a freelance science editor; I edit dissertations and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals primarily. My clients almost exclusively use Microsoft Word. Any word processing tool that I use has to be compatible with MS Word, particularly "Track Changes" version control. Has OpenOffice (or another open source word processing software) achieved this?

Ubuntu :: Libre Office: Can It Read Open Office Documents

Mar 28, 2011

I just found out about Libre Office. I am currently using Open Office on my Netbook (ubuntu 10.10), and NeoOffice on my Macbook (OS/X 10.6.7).

QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?

FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.

Ubuntu :: Switching From Open Office To Libre Office?

Apr 22, 2011

I have both installed, but since LO is going to be the way Ubuntu goes for office applications, can I easily have my system setup for native LO? Native being if I double clock on a .doc file it will start up LO's Write program instead of OO.Will just removing OO achieve this or is there an easier way? I looked for file associations and didn't find it.

Ubuntu :: Get KDE Office Instead Of The Regular Open Office?

Sep 14, 2010

Sometime ago I realized my Open Office had changed, I don't remember having done anything in particular but today it isn't the regular open office but what I believe is a KDE version or idk. The theme changed and instead of regular menus I get "window" menus, in the sense that they get effects as regular windows. It's hard to explain it.

[URL]

I tried uninstalling it and installing open office and also in the soft center open office is more than once, but I tried the different versions and I still get the same problem.

Debian Multimedia :: When Open An Open Office Document From An NFS Share It Always Opens As Readonly

Apr 27, 2010

When I open an open office document from an NFS share it always opens as readonly. This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?

Can't recall doing anything special to make them available in Open Office in past; has something changed or am I missing something obvious?

OK, solved it; for anyone else having trouble, I completely removed ttf-mscorefonts-installer package then reinstalled it; upon reinstallation I got a EULA to accept and everything went as expected.
