What are my options for viewing power point presentations? a few searches in synaptic yielded nothing useful (other than the kde version). I'm looking for something as lightweight as possible. Don't need editing capabilities at the moment. Also I'd rather not wine.
View 7 RepliesI am running Karmic and OOo 3.1.1. I am trying to insert a Shockwave flash video into my presentation, but I just get a blank box. I have the SWF videos saved on my hdd and I can play them in Firefox if I open the files in the browser. I tried the OOo forum but have had no responses.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Open Office Impress fairly often. I notice that when I build up a presentation and I use a few not too large jpeg images, the program becomes progressively slow. It never crashes and generally does not display erroneous behaviour. However, clicking around in the slide designer feels very slow. Just something to reproduce: After trying to select a different font size by clicking on that drop-down list box item in the text layout bar, it may take up to 3 seconds before a list with font sizes is displayed.
This may sound minor but when it takes a few seconds for each 'focus change' - from item to item - to happen, this seriously impacts usability. For reference, other Open Office applications I regularly use such as Writer and Calc are a lot faster / snazzier. I work on a fast Lenovo Thinkpad T61 (Intel T7100 CPU, 2 Gb mem) which runs F12 like a charm - except OOo Impress. I am using version 3.1.1-19.26.fc12. It seems to be X. When I use Impress, the X.org will use up to 96% of both CPUs for about 3 to 4 seconds.

QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?
FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.
I have both installed, but since LO is going to be the way Ubuntu goes for office applications, can I easily have my system setup for native LO? Native being if I double clock on a .doc file it will start up LO's Write program instead of OO.Will just removing OO achieve this or is there an easier way? I looked for file associations and didn't find it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSometime ago I realized my Open Office had changed, I don't remember having done anything in particular but today it isn't the regular open office but what I believe is a KDE version or idk. The theme changed and instead of regular menus I get "window" menus, in the sense that they get effects as regular windows. It's hard to explain it.

I tried uninstalling it and installing open office and also in the soft center open office is more than once, but I tried the different versions and I still get the same problem.
I tried changing the extension to .ppt or .pps but still it didn't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI received some M$ Power Points files and cannot open then. One file was from Power Points 2010, and another saved with the option 2000-2010. These were rejected by Impress with the failure report "Version Incompatibility. Incorrect file version". When a file was saved with the option Power Point 95, Impress tried to open it but when RAM useable ramped up to > 1GB, Impress automatically shut down. The only other information wrt the files is that its highly likely they contain graphics generated with M$Visio. Has anyone had similar experiences? Are there any work arounds?

I have an older iBook G4, which suffers to do anything remotely productive despite it's 1.2ghz PPC proc and 1gb of RAM. I was considering on putting the community version of Ubuntu on it just for funsies, but I want to be able to watch flash videos. Is there any sort of gnash or something that can play ..... videos on PPC chips, or am I better off just sticking with OSX 10.4 on it?

Sometimes, power point presentations will crash the program and then I can't open any open office programs without rebooting the computer. The problem seems to be just with powerpoint files and I'm not sure what the issue could be.

This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?

Open Office works fine when I run the command "startx" in the Konsole but so far I haven't been able to configure it.
I cant open xls files in a shared folder using open office 3.1. Its all started when i install a new open office version. when im using open office 3.0.8 i can open all the files but now i cant even open it. Its always display untitled documents.

If Open Office had any problems saving in different file formats than the open format (which I know it doesn't have problems with) and rtf (which I know it does). I have to use it for school and I do not want to lose things like bullets, numbering and especially not information when saving in Microsoft Word formats.

OK, solved it; for anyone else having trouble, I completely removed ttf-mscorefonts-installer package then reinstalled it; upon reinstallation I got a EULA to accept and everything went as expected.
