Ubuntu :: Installed Burg - Tried To Update - Got Syntax Error ?
Jun 14, 2010
I just installed BURG and the installationguide told med to run sudo update-burg. When I do that, I get this message: /etc/default/burg: 7: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
On another page, in the comments, I found out that deleting a line in the /etc/default/burg can fix it. But my problem is that I don't now which line.
My guess is about line number seven, but as I'm saying, I'm not sure.

I have Burg installed and it's great! But like what GRUB does, I don't like the timeout thing (having only 10 seconds to decide). I actually want to get rid of the 10 seconds and make it infinite seconds during startup, mainly because I usually turn on my laptop and turn away to do something else. so how do I get rid of the time? I haven't been able to find any related results in Google or here in the forums.

Title says it all really: is there an easy way to get burg to automatically update after a new kernel install in the same way that grub does it?

I am a Novell (now defunct) CNE tring to learn Linux and am having a lot of trouble finding out where the WB 6-6 is wrong in the syntax for adding local4... the the syslog-ng config file. In the instructions there are discrepancies between commas and simi-comma, they are both in the statements in no particular order. there is no pattern to them. Here is what the book shows:
filter f_local4debug { level(debug) and facility(local4); };
When I try to input this in the Gnome terminal window to try and find out where it goes wrong I get the following: -bash: syntax error near unexpected token "(" If I can get the correct syntax I belive I can use the info to get past the rest of this portion of the lesson. I am desperate to learn Linux as the only jobs out there for a Novell CNE are migrations to MS, which really sucks, since MS really really sucks.

I tried to download BURG, as instructed by this site (OMG UBUNTU)
I thought that the process might be too dangerous, so I removed all the packages that had were part of Grub2. GRUB however I left installed. After a reboot, The PC comes up to a menu that looks just like this:
Code:
Minimal BASH line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions. grub>_I tried typing 'boot', but it said, "no loaded kernel."

I have checked the known issues and the sticky post, it does not seem to be related. I have Ubuntu as my host OS and I want to run Windows as a guest.
Now, Here is the error:
Quote:
Kernel driver not installed (rc=-190
The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing
'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'
as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. I have done the obvious:
Quote:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install dkms
sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
I still have the same error. I just updated from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10, then I was prompted by virtual box to update to the newest version, then this happened.

I installed Azureus from their site. It works well. The only problem is when Azureus tries to apply updates, I get this error message:
"The folder <path-where-I-installed-Vuze> is not writable. This will prevent future software updates from being applied."
There was a link the the Vuze wiki, and the problem is that I (or is it the Azureus updater?) do not have permissions to write to that directory, or words to that effect.
How do I apply the proper permissions so that when an update from Azureus is downloaded, it is applied?
The wiki offers this solution:
Quote:
But this looks like something that I have to do manually, each time...
How do I set it up, so that the updater has the permissions and uses the proper password to do it automatically, when I restart Vuze?
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10

fail! I believe the modules required for this is apt-get install libapache2-mod-proxy-html and it shows under the available modules and it was enabled with a2enmod proxy-html.
The line from the config is ProxyHTMLEnable On. The release is the latest download with updates from, 32bit.

Has anyone played with Burg? I'm a bit apprehensive about trying it.This laptop had 10.10 as the only OS but I shrank the partition and installed 11.04 in the empty space.So 11.04 re-wrote the Grub with itself at the top of the list.So now I have 10.10 in sda1 and 11.04 in sda6.Do you think that Burg will cause any problems?

My brother has Tri boot Ubuntu ,7 and Vista ..GRUB2 is the bootloader..The problem : At boot after the Lenovo splash disappears , there appears some 4 to 5 lines of error , error:syntax error GRUB or similar..This is visible only for a fraction of a second before the GRUB2 menu pops up...
The OS es load properly on selection in the menu so no loss of functionality One another problem is there is no OS highlighted by default and the timeout message "Automatic Boot in 10 Secs" does not appear Reinstalling GRUB does not solve the issue

Is there a method or way to "update" Vim's syntax highlighter manually? I appear to have a very updated version of Vim on both Debian & Arch Linux but I notice that on both servers on the identical configuration file for Postfix MTA (main.cf) I have a parameter that shows up in 'white' which usually means 1 or 2 things:
1. I have a typo somewhere in my parameter.
2. The parameter is not recognized by Postfix and useless
However in this case it is neither of the two above however it stands out in the configuration file because it's not in color. It's the only one that is white text. I verified the command / parameter is valid: Link
The parameter is:
Code:
smtpd_tls_security_level = may
Is there a way to update Vim to highlight the " smtpd_tls_security_level" parameter in the configuration file when opened with Vim? Do I need to update the syntax highlighter for this to have the desired effect? I know this issue is purely cosmetic but as an administrator I find it annoyong to have to waste time and research if a configuration parameter is valid or not. I rely on Vim's color syntax highlighting to tell me when I make a overlooked mistake. I do know that Postfix is happy with the current configuration as I can see it being executed in the program:
Code:
postconf -n | grep "smtpd_tls_security_level"
smtpd_tls_security_level = may

Whenever I boot my laptop, I get the following three lines:Code:error: syntax error.error:Incorrect command.error: syntax error.Right after I see the error messages for a couple seconds, the boot screen shows up and the rest of the boot progresses as normal. I'm on a Wubi 10.10 ubuntu install and I'm pretty sure this error has something to do with the GRUB_TIMEOUT line on 'etc/default/grub' file.I was experiencing some weird glitches with the boot splash screen (it was in the wrong resolution and would not display some times) so I edited that file to make it work. Here is the file:
Code:
# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
[code]....
