Debian Installation :: Java Programm To Install And The Installer Is GUI Java Based?

Feb 18, 2011

This is my first post and I'm pretty new on Debian. I had used Ubunu for a while now and I've decided to move on Debian Squeeze. But I've one problem: I've a Java programm to install and the installer is GUI Java based. When I run the script, I've the next message:

Preparing to install. Extracting the JRE from the installer archive.Unpacking the JRE.Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive.Configuring the installer for this system's environment.Launching installer Graphical installers are not supported by the VM. The console mode will be used instead. Preparing CONSOLE Mode Installation. But this program is not able to run the installation in console mode.

I've tried to install sun-java6-jre but without success.Has anyone an idea to help me install this programm? My Configuration: Debian Squeeze 6.0 amd64.

Ubuntu :: Install Latest Java Version - Java SE 6 Update 24?

Feb 18, 2011

If you are interested, Java SE 6 Update 24 is available. The Check Java Version link in my signature will tell you if you are up to date or not. The Update Java Version link in my signature will tell you how to obtain and install the latest version. The 32 bit version install directions are on the left side of that page and the 64 bit instructions are on the right side.

Just remember to remove the current version before installing the new one as it says in the instructions. The remove instructions are below the install instructions. Also, in Step 9 - "Now you'll want to tell the system, that there's a new Java version available." See the note below it that says if you get an error upon entering the command once, enter it a second time. I have to do that and sometimes forget. Just thought I would mention that. These instructions are already setup for version 6 update 24, but they can be modified for any update and they will work. I have been using these instructions for a couple of years and they work.

Slackware :: Installing Java Error - When Trying To Run A Java App With The Firefox Plugin - Browser Crashe

May 29, 2011

Code: ~ $ /usr/java/jre1.6.0_25/bin/java -showversion Error occurred during initialization of VMjava/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object

That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.

General :: Java Installation On Ubuntu 10.10?

Feb 5, 2011

I have recently left windows for Linux. Because I am used to windows I am also used to the installation wizard that made installing programs easy. I'm finding difficulty in using the terminal for installation of Java. once I had made the download I moved the file into my home directory and used the terminal to install from there. But when I tried to install the Java SDK package I received this error message. "Could not locate a suitable jar utility. Please ensure that you have Java 6 or newer installed on your system and accessible in your PATH or by setting JAVA_HOME" it seems I did something wrong. I know this is probably just a major newbie mistake but

Ubuntu Installation :: Java Issue After 10.04 Upgrade From 9.10

May 3, 2010

I upgraded one of my VMware VMs that was running 9.10 to 10.04 and it seems everything is working except my ability to connect to WebEx meetings. My guess is that it is a WebEx programming issue but I thought I'd post here too in case someone knows a work around.

When I attempt to "start" my WebEx meeting I immediately get this error:
"The requested URL /tc0505lb/webcomponents/docshow/docshow.do_siteurl=ciscosales&jvm=1.6.0_18&isJavaC lient=true was not found on this server."

My pre-Ubuntu 10.04 upgraded VM is able to start a WebEx meeting just fine.

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Download, With Java 6 Jdk / Docs?

Jun 23, 2010

I'm relatively new to Ubuntu 9.10, and have encountered a problem downloading anything. Here's the recurring error message my terminal displays:

Setting up sun-java6-doc (6.20dlj-0ubuntu1.9.10) ...
This package is an installer package, it does not actually contain the
JDK documentation. You will need to go download one of the
archives:

jdk-6u19-docs.zip jdk-6u18-docs.zip jdk-6u19-docs-ja.zip jdk-6u19-docs-ja.zip
(choose the non-update version if this is the first installation).
Please visit url now and download.

The file should be owned by root.root and be copied to /tmp.

I tried finding these at Oracle/Sun/Java, and can find no such archive ".docs." Can anyone help me find these or something else that will work instead?

Ubuntu Installation :: Java Support Dropped Out?

Dec 30, 2010

Ubuntu 10.10, Firefox 3.6.13, IceTea6 ext, Greasemonkey, Firebug, FlashBug.. Everything was going just great, then poof. Firefox seems to have lost the ability to interpret java and javascript extensions. It's strange, I have a javascript extension that I've used a lot in the last 2 to 3 months. One night, was using- refreshed, gone.

Script was still there in GreaseMonkey, with all it's pointers to the web presence. I have Google Chrome with the same extension and it stiill works fine. Thought maybe it might be an install problem, so uninstalled/reinstalled Greasemonkey and the script//no change. Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and extensions//no change.

I used Firebug to inspect element on a familiar web page where I inserted a table with imbedded javascript. doesn't execute any of the onclick processes on it. This table "is" something that I have inserted on that same page previously with no problems and it executed those same onclick processes fine.

Which leads me to believe that somehow, in the past few weeks, I somehow lost the abilty to process java and javascript. Could this be to soem recent updates or upstream changes? Note-- I do have Eclipse IDE, JavaBeans IDE and Monkey Studio IDE installed on this instance of Ubuntu. I've stayed with Ubuntu's flavor of the OpenJDK, instead of going to Sun's JRE in an attempt to stay open to future shifts and directions.
