I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop. Installing eclipse for java development. before installing I want to install java and tomcat server so please guide me installing all the below software in series.
1) JAVA
2) Tomcat Server
3) Eclipse IDE
I have been using Eclipse to program in Java for a long time, and have been using Jigloo for most of my GUI design. Recently I decided to try out the C/C++ plugin. I tried installing it, but it did not work. After many attempts, I finally gave up. However, after uninstalling it I found that Jigloo had stopped working. Any other plugins I try to install now also don't work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling plugins, and reinstalling eclipse, but nothing I have done fixes it. Although eclipse says that the software has been installed, nothing shows up in the features list or the plugins list.
Another problem: When I install eclipse from the repositories, it doesn't install a bunch of libraries and eclipse cannot recognize standard java files.
I need to download specific JDK version but from console in Linux. I have not lynx/elinks etc linstalled. Where can i download Java Development Kit (JDK) from ftp ?

When I try and start a new java project, all these rather odd wizards come up about starting projects and java isn't mentioned at all. Do I have to initialise eclipse with java? I am very comfused, it seems a nice editor to work with.

I've Fedora 11 64-bit with Sun java SDK 1.6.0_18 and when quitting eclipse, the GUI window will be gone, but the process eclipse and java that it instantiates will not die. Subsequent execution of eclipse just creates new eclipse and java processes, taking up more memory. It doesn't matter whether I run from the command line or from the gnome menu.I tried both Fedora packaged eclipse-platform-3.4.2-20.fc11.x86_64 and the manually downloaded Eclipse Galilio, with the same problem. I tried removing ~/workspace/, ~/.eclipse and also tried -clean option, but still no go. I also have ~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_*/configuration/config.iniosgi.bundlefile.limit=100 as explained in other threads which solves the start problem, but it has no effect for stopping.l -9.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Fedora 12 and attempted to create a new java project in Eclipse.I used the 'eclipse' command in the terminal to start eclipse. It starts fine, however, there is no 'java project' option after choosing 'File->New Project'. Only CVS and General projects. I am not experienced enough in programming to understand the relevance/usage of either of these project modes, and only want to be able to write java programs in Eclipse.
Also, does the eclipse that is run from the terminal support c++ development? I have attempted to download eclipse for C++/C developers, but cannot get it to run. Which eclipse is running when I type 'eclipse' in the terminal? Is there a way to make it so I don't have to run this command from the terminal to load eclipse?

From what I understand, I can do a fresh install of 10.04 on / while preserving my settings on /home. What about the development tools? I currently have Apache web server, Tomcat, MySQL, PostgreSQL installed. I presume I will have to reinstall them if I do a fresh install right? So if I want to preserve these dev tools as they are I should only do an upgrade from the update manager? Are there any major advantages to a clean install over an upgrade?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to install a very light linux distribution. Light enough to be an host running virtualbox (or vmware player) and then a linux virtual machine of choice on it. Occasionally I could be in needs of running a windows distribution.
The reason why I would like to do this is that I am a developer. I found much convenient to prepare my development environment and run it from machine to machine. Rather than reinstalling a distribution and set it up each time I buy a new laptop.
Do you think it's possible ? The alternative could be to make a kind of linux image and install on a brand new PC, but I don't know how to do that and what are the downside of it.
Every developer in our organization has access to a single development server and all development ( other than basic experimentation ) is done on this server. This is primarily because there are several interdependent systems and having copies of these systems on each developers machine slows that machine down to the extent of making it completely unusable. All developers access this development server using ssh. Of course this implies that scp will also work as the sshd daemon is running making data vulnerable.
We are currently attempting to secure the code and data on this server from unauthorized copying and transfer.
Currently I am attempting to set up virtual machines on each developer machine that can then be used to connect to the development server. I have created a shell that does nothing but allow for the typing of one command that simply transfers ( ssh login ) the user onto the development server.
I am using virtualBox and ubuntu mini to achieve this.
Problems: The first question is if this is a reasonable way to achieve what I am attempting to. Is there a better way?
The others is more in terms of the set-up: I am attempting to resize the virtualBox console. I tried this by editing grub. Although I am able to resize the screen at start-up the entire screen goes back to ( what I believe is 800x600 ) after the Ubuntu splash screen.
The virualBox seems to have completely messed up the keyboard detection how can I rectify this?
The other is regarding the restricting of shell access I have currently done this by removing access to /bin/ for normal users. Is this secure enough or is there a better way?

Unfortunatels there ist a problem: I wanted to compile a driver for my wlan-card but got the known error "make: command not found". So I searched this forum and found in this thread that I need to install the development tools. But when I try to do so by typing yum groupinstall "Development Tools" it first starts but then cancels with an error message claiming missing dependencies to a perl package:

I am trying to build Pidgin on my Lucid install and on running configure, I get the following:

I wish to use the new Eclipse Galileo, and so far it works fine... out of my home directory.I would like to install this system-wide, so that all my users can use it just the same.I assume the destination would be /usr/local/bin, but when I put the directory there and link the executable as /usr/local/bin/eclipse (linking to /usr/local/bin/eclipse_bin/eclipse), I get shared library errors.This was a failed attempt at a hack, so I would like to know: where can I put the files so as to properly do this installation?
