I have been trying to set up my Brother 5370dw in the network.It recognized easily with the usb, but I sure would like to set it up with my network.I have tried to have it find the networked printer to no avail, and I do not know how one can "force" it to be recognized.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have managed to install ubuntu server and set it quite nicely to share my files and printers over my network. I have two printers, a Lexmark e232 and a hp C3180 multifunctional printer (i.e. printer+scaner+a copy function). I have no problem installing the Lexmark printer on my windows 7 computers on the network, however, the All in One printer only gets recognized as a printer but there is no way to get it to scan. I have been reading on the web about all in one printers but I don't quite understand what the issues are.
Is there a way for me to get the full functionality of this printer over the network? I think this wouldn't be a problem if there was some sort of software designed by hp that would allow me to add printers that are not directly connected to the computer (via usb) but are shared from another pc on the network.
I have recently had linux installed on my computer, but my printer which is a Canon Pixma MP495 is not recognized when the computer searches for it. The 395 is and the 500 is, but not the 495. I need to know what to do. I found a driver by canon which I downloaded. It is sitting in the archive manager but I have no idea what to do with it now and how to get everything working! use easy to understand non-computer person talk with me since I have no idea what I'm doing. Forgive me for my ignorance but applaud me for my desire to learn

I have just bought and installed an HP 2050 printer-scanner-copier. The printer works fine, but the scanner is not recognised by Simple Scan or XSane.
Simple Scan states: No Scanners Detected
XSane Image Scanning Program states: No Devices Available
I have Ubuntu 10.10 - the Maverick Meercat installed on my computer.
I have downloaded the hplip-3.11.3a.run file from the HP website but it is still in my download folder and I don't know how to get it from the download folder to my computer and then once that is accomplished, I don't know what to type in the terminal to get this file installed.
Heck, I don't even know if this is what I should install to correct this problem or not.
I have a desktop and a laptop connected by ssh (Places>Connect to Server). This works OK for file sharing but the laptop does not recognize the 2 printers attached to the desktop machine. As I understand (??) it, if the 2 printers are set up as 'shared' in CUPS (as they are on the desktop) then they should be recognized by the other machine on the network. But this is not happening. Is this the right way to network printers?

When i connect the printer, Debian doesn't recognize my printer as the Photosmart B109 printer for unknown reason. When i go to the site of HP and search for a driver, it directs me to this site:I've downloaded that latest hplip file as a .run file and installed it. My printer is recognized proparly, but when i try to print a colored image, it comes out black/white. Something is not crrect. Does anyone recognize this problem with this type HP printer?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am testing to see whether after connecting to an Image on a server with VMware View Open Client I can get it to add a local desktop connected printer(usb). In Ubuntu 10.04 I have made this printer the default and printed a test page just fine, but when I go through VMware to a Windows Image all I can see are the printers that are connected to the local network. need to be able to deploy this to any location and add or see printers on the fly. As when it goes into the field it will be on a Wi-fi card to connect to the Windows Image through VMware. Am I missing a driver, or do I need to add something in the Startup Applications so it see's the printer outside of Ubuntu?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been at this mess pardon my french for a few hours and i'm still going nowhere, original thread posted over at archlinux forums:Since my printer isn't visible on my server (works just fine on my client) I tried to manually add various URI (tried em all) and I went from "printer location not found, waiting for jobs, to printer isnt running".
In my opinion it should be working but it's not, i've read the linux printer database/various linux forums/#cups on freenode (idled for 2 days no response)/gentoo wiki/forums and the old tool "google" but most of the "hacks" I tried didn't work.There's a lot of google links with issues similars to my own and alas they are all unresolved, is this a typical problem with unix/CUPS over servers/network?Why is it so difficult for CUPS to detect my printer over my server?
Have installed Centos5 in SUN VirtualBox with Windows XP as host as a safeway to familiarize with Linux.The system works well,except I cannot get my printer to be recognized (Canon MP170),which is working on Windows.Is there any Command line instructions which will fix this,or any other solutions?

I have recently installed Fedora 13 on my netbook. I wish to use my HP Officejet via the HPLIP utility. The problem with this is that when I have the firewall turned on, the printer is not recognised at all during setup. When the firewall is switched off, the printer is recognised. The printer in question is an HP Officejet 8500a which is connected via Ethernet cable to a wireless router. I would like to know if there are any network ports (that's used by HPLIP) that I could 'turn on' in the firewall that could let my computer recognise the printer.

I got my Epson stylus NX510 all-in-one printer (just the actual printer worked, couldn't get the scanner recognized) working in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. I'm currently attempting a dual boot with OpenSuse 11.3, but when I go to download the driver for it like I did in Ubuntu (and it worked) I get the following error messages:

Ive just installed Fed 13 KDE, but my Epson Stylus DX7450, is not recognized and installed. (works fine on Fed 13 Gnome). So i went to Printer Config. in system settings. New printer/ New network printer. where i get an error message "Not authorized - this password may be incorrect". I carry on and input my printer details, but at the end I get another error message, "There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error-forbidden'."

I'm on a laptop, and the printer/scanner is wifi enabled and broadcasts with its own IP address. I can print with no problem, but xsane and simple scan don't recognize the scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

I know that the printer is a HP PSC 1215 All-In-One Printer but there seems to be a Catch-22 that I need to have the printer connected in order to be able to set this up using the GUI tools. How do I work around this? As a minimum I just want to enable printing, although scanning would be a bonus.

The only major problem I have encountered is that Ubuntu will not recognize my SD cards. I really need to access these cards, all my film footage is on there. I think the internal SD card reader (If such a thing exists) would have been deleted during the installation process. I am a greenthumb to Ubuntu and have never used it before so I am rather stuck...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a backup HDD with a different distro for my laptop and i can boot into it via external usb or if swapped into the laptop. This HDD/install in question is debian testing and was working fine, the issue arose suddenly. I was first suspecting a failure of hardware somewhere on the motherboard, but the hdd i was using with an external usb adapter also works when installed into the machine. also, the HDD is recognized once i have booted using the external HDD and distro, but it is not recognized by the bios. so i dunno, my first guess is something became corrupt within the testing install, but i guess its also possible that there is some wrong with the HDD but thats not immediately apparent as all the data is still accessible.
Should also note that the HDD with testing on it is also recognized when connected via the external usb adapter, while booted from alternative distro/HDD.
Also. just tried this, but i can get the testing HDD/disto to boot if connected externally. it was going pretty quick, but there i did catch a line about a corrupt filesystem. any commands to run to see what might be going on?? log files to look at?
I downloaded the Ubuntu ISO from Ubuntu website.I wrote it in a CD....I use Linux.I followed the procedures properly.I used the Write to Linux Option after right clicking the file.Now When I try and boot it from windows the CD doesnt load properly...But in linux it does and it shows the files.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a new hard drive on an old Acer Veriton M464 but the network adapter is not recognized.
System/Preferences/Network Connections (Wired tab) shows no connections.
The thing is I want to install Ubuntu alongside my Win 7 32-bit OS on its own partition. I have four partitions:
System Reserved (made automatically by Win 7),
System (where Win 7 is installed),
Ubuntu (which is a partition I made during the installation of Win 7 that is empty) and
Data (where all my documents, music and such is at).
The problem is that when I get to the point in the installation of Ubuntu where you choose where to install it, Ubuntu doesn't recognize any partitions at all! So to install Ubuntu I would have to erase everything which I would very much like to avoid - moreover I read it was better to begin with installing Win 7. If I choose to 'Try Ubuntu' and thereafter open GParted this is what it looks like:
The weird thing is that when I open 'Computer' I can see the different partitions and even open the partitions and files on them. It seems to work the way it should. When I open a drive it creates a shortcut on the desktop. So when I've entered all of them it looks like this:

The reason why the Ubuntu drive is FAT32 is because I tried formatting the drive while in 'Try Ubuntu'-mode. It didn't work with NTFS either. The harddisk is a Samsung HM251JJ ATA. Why can't the Ubuntu installation read my partitions? There's even a partition ready for it. And as I wrote I have looked at a great deal of threads but can't find out what to do.
External USB 3 drive not recognized after upgrade to Natty. Works fine and is recognized immediately when plugged into USB 2. Occasionally the drive is recognized with USB 3 when plugged/unplugged. Worked fine in Maverick (with USB 3)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just installed 10.04 twice on 2 separate disks and it seems to have done something really strange to them. BIOS will not recognise them anymore, it just waits but they never come online. I have to unplug the disk completely for the system to boot.The first time I thought I'd just lost a disk, but when exactly the same thing occurred the second time around, it seems like too much of a coincidence.The installer didn't recognise the disks first time around as they were part of a RAID group previously. I did a dmraid -E -r /dev/sda to fix. After that just installed as per every other time I've used.

I created my RAID 5 set in BIOS - P6X58D motherboard/Intel Software RAID - Looks and works fine in Windows 7 (Ultimate) 64-bit. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 using wubi - both Windows 7 and Ubuntu systems are on the SSD THE PROBLEM Ubuntu does not appear to recognize my RAID 5 set - when it loads I see a "/dev/sd_ 10 failed" error (sd_=sda, sdb or sdc) along with "no such file or directory" - I can see my 3 HDDs in 'Disk Utility,' but the space/partition information is incorrect - I reinstalled all packages related to RAID (dmraid, etc.)
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for days now to install Ubuntu on a Dell Dimension 5100 desktop. It's got a 2ghz processor, ATI graphics card and 512 ram. It has a DVD drive that it boots from. Here's the problem. I have Ubuntu 10 burned on a regular CD and I have Ubuntu 9.1 burned on a DVD. I can boot this Dell up using the CD. It goes through the regular install, gets to 23% then tells me that it can't recognize the CD/DVD device or the hard drive. I've re-seated cables, I know the hardware is all good, this is my media computer that Ive had attached to my TV now for a year. It was running fine 3 days ago before I got the great idea to convert it to Linux.
Now...once that fails I try to put in the burned DVD of version 9. Again the computer boots, I tell it to boot from the DVD...but this time the computer acts as if that drive doesn't even exist. It simply can't find the DVD drive anymore once I put a DVD into it. Is this a problem with the basic reading?? It'll read a CD but not a DVD. If I let it boot all the way to the live Ubuntu CD, the DVD drive is recognized just fine, reads DVDs, etc. Is there another solution, something I should be trying? I need this comp on Ubuntu. I've already converted all other systems in my house and this POS is the only abomination still using windows.
