let's say this system has 3 hard drives. Drive #1 and #2 are RAID 0 and Windows7 lives there. It is a hardware RAID, not software.
On Drive #3 Ubuntu has been installed using WUBI - it boots up and works okay - but it does not see the RAID array.
Do I just need a linux driver to be able to see & mount my "Windows" RAID0 array? Or is this even possible? Can anyone point me in the right direction?
configure my raid devices so it can be started and mounted at start-up.

The problem is that I can not mount this volume in Ubuntu. I can read it normally if I attach it to windows machine.This is the output from "sudo fdisk -l":

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a dual-boot setup with winXP and openSUSE 11.2. I have both XP and SUSE partitions on a 160g HDD and then a Hardware RAID 1 array of 2 320g HDDs. The RAID arrray contains all my media/data files on an NTFS partition. For some reason SUSE shows both individual 320g disks mounted in the file system, but not the RAID array. If I attempt to browse either of the disks, I get an error and can't view them. How do I mount the RAID NTFS partition?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt's been a real battle, but I am getting close.I won't go into all the details of the fight that I have had, but I've almost made it to the finish line. Here is the set up. ASUS Z8PE-D18 mother board 2 CPU, 8 Gig Ram. I recently added an OCZ Agility SSD, defined a raid 1 virtual disk on the 1 terabyte WD HDD drives, which will holds all of my user data, the SSD is for executables.The bios is set to AHCI. Windows 7 installed fine, recognizes the raid VD just fine.
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 by first booting into try and mode, then opening a terminal and issuing a "sudo dmraid -ay" command. Then performing the install. I told it to install the raid components, and told it to let me specify the partitions manually. When setting up the partitions, I told it to use the free space I set aside on the SSD from the Windows 7 install as ext4 and to mount root there. Ubuntu installed just fine, grub2 comes up just fine, and Windows 7 boots with out a hitch, recognizing the mirrored partition as I indicated previously. When I tell grub to boot linux however, it pauses and I get the "no block devices found" message. It will then boot, but it does not recognize the raid array. After Ubuntu starts up I can run "dmraid -ay" and it recognizes the raid array, but shows the two component disks of the raid array as well. It will not allow the component disks to be mounted, but they show up which is annoying. (I can live with that if I have to)
I have fixed a similar problem before by setting up a dmraid script in /etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top ... following the instructions found at the bottom of this blog:[URL].. To recap: My problem is that after grub2 fires up Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS (Lucid Lynx), it pauses, and I get "no block devices found" It then boots but does not recognize the raid array untill I manually run "dmraid -ay". I've hunted around for what to do but I have not found anything. It may be some timing issue or something, but I am so tired of beating my head against this wall.
I am trying to mount 3 NTFS partitions, but they aren't showing up in the /dev directory. If I fdisk the drive, the partition shows up, but nothing in /dev...

I am trying to install Debian in an old laptop. Of course, in this laptop there is windows installed and I want to respect it. My plan is to install Debian in a spare drive.Before installing Debian, I want to check what is inside each drive. In order to do that, I am trying to use the Debian installer CD. Then start an admin shell, mount the drives in read-only mode, and check their contents.
But when I run the command:

Just installed 11.3 on my computer, however when I connect an external NTFS harddisk I receive an error message. When I open dolphin to connect to an internal NTFS partition I receive the message:

if I was to lose the boot disk and need to remount the RAID array on a fresh installation, what steps do I need to go through. My assumption is that the superblocks on the RAID disks will be used and I don't need to keep any additional information - is this right?
I am attempting to install Maverick on an older pc. It has (2) mirrored 153 GB SATA drives. I set aside 33GB for a linux partition, by shrinking the partition in Vista.
Choosing to "Install along side windows" is not an available option. I can only choose use who disk, or use empty area. I choose use the empty area, and the Ubiquity installer gets hung up when attempting to format the empty space as EXT4. When I scroll up on the output I notice some error messages referencing NTFS. When I use Gparted it shows a possible problem.

I'm trying to install ubuntu 9.10, downloaded the iso from the site and burned it on a CD, but when I boot from my cdroom drive and choose install ubuntu option I get an ubuntu grey logo for a couple seconds and the I get this error:
I tried downloading a new copy and burning a new CD but still have the same error, no matter what option I choose when booting the CD.
Does anyone now whats the problem? What I'd like to do is install linux as the only OS (formating everything else) not dual boot or anything, I'm new to linux so it'd help if you guys could give me details on how to fix it

I posted a similar problem sometime last week...but a little has changed(mainly I can access my files now): I recently performed the auto upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 and upon restart of my machine I am presented with 3 screens. The first is a simple "GRUB loading". The second is "mount: mounting none on /dev failed: no such device". The third screen is a series of initializations, i.e. /dev/sda1:
clean, (number of files), (number of blocks)
*setting preliminary keymap...
and so on until it hits the line:
*checking battery status
at which point it will cease loading until i press the power button. The next thing that occurs is it kills all the processes it just initialized and shuts down the computer. I read that this is likely a problem from loading the wrong kernel and I can get into my files (using a boot 9.10 boot key). The problem is I don't know what files to change in order to get my system booting the right kernel.
I have a raid 0 setup with 2 x 1TB drives. I have an ASUS P8P67 LE motherboard and am using Interl RST for the Raid setup. I'm utterly ignorant of raid and therefore forgive any mistakes... I already had windows 7 installed and was attempting to dual boot ubuntu.
I installed Ubuntu from CD. The raid was picked up properly as only one drive by ubuntu. So it picked up the windows MBR and the main windows partition. I resized the main partition and used the "install ubuntu and windows 7 side by side" option. Installation went fine but once I restarted the PC I was welcomed by a grub rescue screen with the message: "error: no such device e196.....". Edit: I used the Windows 7 disc to repair the windows bootloader so I can now boot into Windows 7.
Before doing so I used gparted on the live cd to check the partitions on the drives. The only ones present were the MBR and windows one. So ubuntu seemingly didn't install... Although GRUB did... I was advised by someone on the ubuntu IRC chat to avoid trying to reinstall ubuntu at that point just in case there was an error in the partitioning process. I've since checked the state of the partitions from within windows and there's the MBR partiton, the windows partiton AND the partition that I created for ubuntu... 965MB of the partition that I created is listed as used space as well...

I just installed Debian 5.0.4 successfully. I want to use the PC as a File Server with two Drives configured as a RAID 1 device. Everything with the RAID device works fine, the only question I have belogs to the GRUB 0.97 Booloader. Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdc1 is already mounted on / mount failed. Not sure what happened but it worked fine till last reboot. It's a 250g NTFS drive named MEDIA device /dev/sda1. why it won't mount now.

Now I have unmounted the partition and want to remount it again except this time so that it is mounted as Read-Only.
I am running 11.4 from a thumb drive,mainly because something is fishy with my main hard drive, but installation is not my reason for this thread (though I think fixing one problem will remedy the other). My winbloze install is short stroked with ~50gb for OS and ~200gb for media storage. I have no problem accessing the storage from windows, but I am unable to mount the storage partition under Ubuntu. I get the following error:

The NTFS partition is hibernated. Please resume and shutdown Windows properly, or mount the volume read-only with the 'ro' mount option, or

When I run that command, I get this:

I have reformatted my hard drive with allocation size 64K for a better performance on my WDTV HD media player(dealing with large files). When I mount this drive on Linux, the mount tells me that "blksize=4096".If I keep writing files usinghis default etting(blksize=4096) to my NTFS formatted hard drive, will my WDTV be able to benefit from the performance improvement of 64k allocation size ? Should I try and mount my hard drive with a larger blksize ?I did some research on google but couldn't find an option to increase the blksize when mounting an NTFS pre-formatted drive.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been working for a while to help a friend re-activate her system after a Windows crash. I tried every way I could to restore Windows, but the system is thoroughly bollixed. The data is still there on the disk, and you can read/write if you boot off of external media. I backed up her data that way.
Details if you need them, but for now suffice it to say that I finally got her up and running by installing Xubuntu Lucid in a dual-boot setup. However Xubuntu isn't automatically recognizing and mounting the NTFS partition the way I would expect it to. I had her run a few commands in the terminal, and here's what she got.

Ordinarily I'd use mkdir then mount to solve this. But I'd like to check a few things before I go and do that.
First, as I understand it if a Windows instance is not shut down properly it can make it difficult for Linux to mount the partition. The usual solution is simply to reboot Windows and then shut down properly, but that's impossible in this case. Will that affect the mkdir/mount solution?
Second, the fact that /dev/sda1 doesn't even show up in fstab causes me some concern. Would that be a problem for mkdir/mount?
And third, how to I set it up so the NTFS partition mounts automatically?
