I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04. When trying to run a Java Applet on a web page I discovered that Java is not installed in 10.04 and the SUN Java JRE is not available to install any more so I installed the OpenJDK and IcedTea Plugin.
Most applets work fine but one specific, for me a very important one, dos not. Specifically the log inn applet used in my net bank: URl... See login entry on top left.After entering userID I am redirected to a page giving the following error message:HTTP 404 - The resource cannot be located. The file cannot be found. This applet runs fine in Windows.I have started Firefox in a terminal window but do not get any error messages there when trying to start the applet.The applet runs fine in Opera (though slow start up) in Ubuntu 10.04. Opera does not use plug in but run the applet directly from JRE. This indicates that the problem could be in the IcedTea plugin.
I installed a packge redmine apt-get install redmine It went without any error. But I found later that it was not working. Another package I installed was red5 during installation it says it can not start red5-server. How can I debug the package installations. If there would have been some script I would have set some thing like set -vmx in it.

Java applet not loading image with relative path(e.g. images/1.jpg) but loads image with absolute path(i.e. from /root/user/images/1.jpg) . This is a problem when i want to host the applet on web server
I had the Clock Applet installed in my panel up through 10.04- when I did the upgrade to 10.10, it was removed (with no explaination). Now, when I try to put it back into the panel, I get the following error message-"The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:GNOME_ClockApplet"and asks me if I want to leave it anyway, or remove it. Regardless of what I select, it does not appear.I like the clock applet. Has anyone else had this issue? Would this be classified as a bug, or is it already a known issue? I have not searched Bugzilla yet.Would this have any relation to the issue I am having with being unable to re-install evolution (Which was also removed during upgrade)?
I'm having a very strange error after upgrading to (K)Ubuntu 10.04.. basically Java Applets don't work in any browser (tried with Firefox, Chrome and Opera). The applet loads (plugin and JVM detected by all browsers) but it is grayed out. After trying all possible solutions I could think of (including installing alternatives jvm) I tried to run the browser as superuser: the applet is then working correctly. So somehow it seems to be a user right problem, but I'm not sure where this is coming from, both java (sun-6) and the browsers were installed and working ok in 9.10. So, I am having certain issues regarding Debian installation. Since my Wi-Fi card, Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG, requires non-free drivers not provided within Debian install image, I am bound to use USB stick during installation process to get those drivers, iwlwifi-3965-1.ucode and iwlwifi-3965-2.ucode, to enable Wi-FI on my system. However, no matter what I do, I cannot get debian-installer to detect drivers present on the machine. I have tried virtually everything - downloading drivers from multiple sources, renaming drivers properly, using ext4 instal of fat32, using gpt instead of msdos, placing files in /firmware instead of root directory - but no matter what I do, the outcome is the same. USB stick seems to be working properly. Am I bound to downloading non-free image now, or is there a solution?
I'm having trouble with my java, I got it to isntall, restarted but when I go to any java based chat, or drawing site it doesn't load the applet, the applet shows up it just says "Start: Applet not initialized" Did I install it wrong?
Does anyone know how can one improve his debugging skills or how can one narrow down the problem and try to get to the solution ASAP.Or rather how once should approach a problem.I know this is a bit vague question but I want to know how you people approach?
Take a screenshot, or some other way of saving the visual output of a java applet [URL], and saving that as an image, without having to manually do it (open browser go there, and take a screenshot).
I guess this would be most easily done using a script of some sort, but I have no idea how to go about doing this..

I'm currently using the 10.10 beta of Ubuntu with all of the most recent updates installed. When I boot up the computer, gwibber fails to start up and when I do open it, it shows an icon in the notification area (Which I flat out do not want) and does not use the indicator applet at all (even when closed).

if there is someone who asked the same question, but I have the Ubuntu 10.10 net-book remix version, and every time that I go to try to download and install the Java applet, it will download Ok (I think), but when I try to open the file, there are no errors, but it won't open. When I try to re-download, it does nothing again.
Whenever I check for updates, or download/install them, the openSUSE updater applet never shows the loading bar. The border showing the loading bars position is there but the loading bar never appears. It always sits at 0% but still successfully complete updating.

Sun gets closest, but still fails. I use ver. 1.6.0_20. Is there any way I can download/save the java applet from the web-page and open it with sun java 6 web start ?
I recently upgraded an ASUS netbook through a series of about 4 or so upgrades ending at Maverick (10.10). Sound in Java applets worked fine before that, but I've been trying for about a week now to get it working again.
Here is what I have tried so far: Removed Sun Java and plugin, and installed Openjdk and icedtea Removed Openjdk and icedtea, and installed Sun Java and plugin Verified through aboutlugins that FireFox plugin matched installed Java plugin Tried using padsp and aoss wrappers
Along the way I have also tried other suggestions I have found through Google for configuring sound and setting file permissions, but nothing works. No matter what I do, sound keeps working everywhere except in Java applets.
Here are some observations along the way.
Sound has worked everywhere I try except in Java applets. It works with Flash.
Java applets work fine except for sound. Java console indicates that sound files are being received and passed to applets.
My Java executable is located at /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java. I have tried renaming it "java.real" and creating a shell script that wraps it with padsp or aoss. When I do that Java works, but Java applets fail to start. The Java console does not start up, so the wrappers appear to prevent applets from starting.
I am trying to run applets at [url]. They work fine for me on a 64-bit 10.04 system and a 32-bit 10.04 system.
So I have followed every single guide there is on how to run a applet with the java plugin on debian 64. And they all fail. How I could see those applets and java apps with my firefox on debian squeeze amd64.

I am connected with chinese-tools.com. They have a neat java applet which has a window in which you can draw a Chinese character, and it will recognize it. However, this is causing my comp to go into overdrive. The twin processors are at nearly 100%. I have two Intel T1600s. If I kill the browser, google chrome or Mozilla, things calm down. Now I need to access web based system through IE7 which is java applet enabled system and also I have already installed java runtime environment on crossover. But that system can not access through IE7 it given some errors.

I am trying to set up a minecraft server, but I have encountered problems. I have been using Ubuntu Server, but I can't get everything to work just right. Im having various problems with the graphic printing features for applets.
In this immediate applet, when I print and update the previous line bleeds through the next line. I tried printing a series of spaces to clear the first text, but it doesn�t work.
I thought I was removing the chat status piece of the indicator applet (I know what it is now, didn't then), but I accidentally removed the whole thing. Now when I figured out how to put it back on the panel, I can't get it back to where it was (which was to the RIGHT of the system date/time applet). How can I do this as well as move the indicator applet that has the volume control in it?
