My friend recently showed me gnome-look.org and there's a lot of really cool stuff on there. I was looking around and saw a really cool GDM login screen that I want to use [URL]... The only problem is that I don't know how to use it. I already downloaded the file for it, but I don't know what to do next.

The downloads are just folders filled with them. I've been wanting to customise the appearance of my Ubuntu, and I want to know how I can make these login screen actually appear when I turn on my computer and login to Ubuntu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I upgraded to 11.04 and decided to give Gnome 3 a chance I was stuck with a windows 2000 (or Redmond like) theme. I have since been able to change the theme in the desktop environment however the Login Screen still maintains the Windows 2000 like theme. I have extensively Googled how to change this, but I keep coming up empty handed. Does anyone have any ideas of how to change the Login Screen theme.

Step 2: Open nautilus with root privileges by pressing ALT+F2 and typing:
gksudo nautilus
Step 3: Navigate to /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/
Step 4: In this directory rename the current (system-ready.ogg) file to (system-ready.ogg.backup)
Step 5: Copy your custom (system-ready.ogg) file into this directory.

I am running opensuse 11.4 on my Lenovo G450. The probem is that the login theme is not changing. Its the same default one. I am sure that I am following the way it should be to assign the new theme but no result. What could it be?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed Squeeze because Lenny didn't have the best Bluetooth support. (Just installed blueman and everything I have works without any configuring, by the way). In Lenny, gdmsetup would allow me to choose a theme for the login screen as well as change settings for logging in. With Squeeze, fully updated, I only get a couple simple options for changing automatic login (screen shot of gdmsetup).
There is a config file that I found: Code: /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults It is a simple config file but I do not know the available themes and cannot preview them.
I have a boring, brown, GDM login screen. I'm assuming this is what shows when there are no GDM themes. I don't see any options in Administration -> Login Window, so what do I need to do to get the standard, Ubuntu GDM theme? What package (asides from vanilla GDM) is required for this on Karmic?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been searching this forum and google extensively for the last few hours, and I cant dig up anything useful. I have a very weird problem:
Install Fedora 12 from livecd on a widescreen monitor:
- Using Nvidia 96xx drivers for my Gforce2 MX
Everything runs fine at this point. Connect old 17" flatscreen and no network: Login freezes for about a minute after username selection, no password prompt, no mouse movement, no keyboard response, after timeout I return to login screen before username selection .. and can repeat this or.. At that point (or before that point) I can ctrl+alt F2 to 'terminal' screen, login works fine.
init 3, login as root
startx
Works fine then, resolution is %^# tho, and cant change it at that point due to errors I get. I'm convinced the problem has nothing to do with my X configuration tbh. Booting from the LiveCD on this configuration works fine. I am tempted to think it has something to do with my GDM, but as my knowledge is limited, I cant figure it out. If I reconnect the widescreen, it all works fine ...
Is there any way to change the resolution and refresh rate of the graphical log on screen in Lenny? I have the right resolution and refresh rates set for after I log in but I don't know which file to edit to make Lenny use the right settings for the log on screen.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have used Ubuntu since 7-4; I now have 10.4. However, in the last week I have been taken to the login screen three times. This could be potentially calamitous. Ctrl+Alt +Backspace have by default been disable since 9-4. There is no way I am pressing atl+Prtscr +K. I wonder if there is a new zap command in 10.4, and if so, how to disable it. I have never found the need to go back back to the login window. I am generally using the command line when doing this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just did an upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10. I am planning to go to 10.04 . After the upgrade everything was ok but I noticed the GRUB was still legacy. So I updated my GRUB to GRUB2. Now when I boot, after entering my logon-id and password, it just brings me back to the login-id screen (to logon on). Any indication of what is wrong and how I should fix this ?
I have no encryptions. [added comments] Currently reading thread about login loop bug with 9.10 Followed instructions about possible missing pre-release update but even if it did do updates, I am still login screen looping. Doing additional researches until someone answers with the fix.

I use my computer on a TV using a DVI to HDMI cable using an i915. Its been solid every release until this one. I change channel and then return to Ubuntu I get no signal/ Purple screen. I have tried turning off sync to vblank in compiz and running Gnome Desktop with no effects both seem to make no difference.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy last setup (years ago) ran fluxbox so because it was familiar I installed it as a secondary to xfce right off the bat. I download a lot of different stuff because I like to try out all the apps I can find but somewhere I broke something. I can still run fluxbox fine, but nither the Xubuntu nor Xfce sessions will run now. Last thing I remember changing was pulse audio(removed it for an experiment I was trying with jack audio), not sure if it is connected but when I try to login to xfce the screen goes black, flickers a few times then it brings me back to the login screen.
I tried failsafe but everytime I do my monitor gives me a "frequency out of range" error. I tried purging and reinstalling xubuntu desktop and xfce settings but I am thinking its my xorg config. My laptop is a Toshiba satellite M305D-s4830 with ATI Radeon 3100 mobile graphics card and I am running Xubuntu 10.10. Unfortunately I also broke the screen, so right now I am stuck with an external monitor till I get a new one.
I my trying to install Ubuntu onto a new 1 TByte Sata HDD on my Dell 8400. The computer has no other OS installed as the old HDD containing Windows XP has being removed. The new hdd has being fully formatted and is set up as a NTFS with a single partition of 1 TByte. I downloaded the latest version of UBuntu and burned it to a cd as a ISO file. When I boot my computer up from this cd I am asked to enter my language of choice and then I get the main menu screen. On this screen I choose option (2) - Install Ubuntu. After a few minutes during which time you can hear the cd being accessed the screen just displays this main menu and never changes. I have tried twice using this install option but after 45-50 minutes the screen still never changes. No progress information is given. If it is normal how long does the installation generally take?

First;- After I updated my system, I have experienced a a login problem , which is each time I try to login and insert my password correctly it seems that it will login but it comes back to the same login screen as if I did not do anything, but after too many times it works.
Second: I read some posts in a website that talks about configuring the RPM fusion "Repo" and I did all the steps posted there , but after that whenever I try to update or download anything through terminal.... it appears the following:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed VirtualBox and setup a Windows Vista host, initially with a .vdi of 10gb. That filled up quickly, so I added another 20gb secondary partition, after first trying to allocate a .vdi to a SCSI controller. Configured the drive in Windows (Computer Management), and all seemed ok. I shutdown VB, and rebooted my Linux host (openSuse 11.3). Now I keep bouncing back to the login screen, and can't login to Linux KDE, but can login to a console.I do have the following info:

I did see a message before, that I don't see anymore, that said it could not start NFS services due to missing entry in fstab. Another I'm seeing now is it couldn't start the avahi-daemon, no space left on device. This is odd, since I have a 200GB drive, with half of it left, only max 30GB set to VB. Here's my df -k output:

tmpfs Use% is 1%
/dev/sda7 Use% is 46%
So root "/" is mounted on /dev/sda6, which looks like it could be a problem, but why would this suddenly be a problem after working with VirtualBox? Could this be a matter of just freeing up space on /dev/sda6? Like the /tmp folder that's under "/"?

Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA Hard Drive
Samsung 22X CD/DVD Burner IDE
I would like to be able to run Fedora 10 (and Vortexbox, an application to burn and store CD�s) but have been unsuccessful in getting F10 to load. I am a novice Linux/Fedora user. I've been able to load and run Windows XP on the server with no problem. I have downloaded and verified both the x86_64 DVD and the x86_64 Live CD from the Fedora website. With the live CD, the last thing that appears before the screen goes blank and the install freezes is the blue line changing to white. I have tried several different SATA configurations , have turned off all non essential options in BIOS(ethernet, USB support), and have tried loading with fail safe bios settings.
I have a desktop running Hardy and till friday it was running good. Today is monday and I guess it has got monday blues like I get every monday at work.Today I tried to start it as usual but it just refused to go further than login screen. I just can not login. It just hangs it there. I do not know what has gone wrong. I did not change anything since friday and no one else uses it. Theres nothing in logs that could give any idea. It just hangs without any reason and is still on the login screen for ever. It does ask my username and password but then it does not go further.But to my surprise I tried logging in with root and it gave me expected error that system administrator is not allowed to login from gnome.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried to install Ubuntu 9.10 on one of them by default installation. For the moment there is only one user declared. The installation seems OK, except that Ubuntu didn't find my PPPoE connexion. When I logged in, I got a blank screen with the mouse cursor (it moved, but when I left or right-clicked nothing happened) and on the left something looking like two 1-pixel wide menus, as if the system had understood there were a dual screen. These menus could roll and unroll, and I think I even once managed to shutdown by going to the last invisible item thanks to the keyboard arrows (I'm not sure, because I had also clicked on ctrl+alt+suppr, so it could be a delayed effect of that).
I restarted the computer several times, to get no more than that. When I'm in Gnome safe, everything is OK but I don't have any root privilege there (I guess it's normal): for instance, I can't set up the internet connexion. My 20" 4/3 Philips screen is recognized. Then I changed the screen frequency: it's still OK for Gnome safe session, but now, in the Gnome normal session, instead of a black screen with 1-pixel wide menu, I get a black background picture with white light coming from above and reflecting to an otherwise invisible floor. The mouse cursor is moving, but this is the only thing which works.
I just Installed Ubuntu on my PC (win XP-pro) using wubi, by downloading the .iso from webpage and burned it to cd. The installation went fine, but when I login the screen goes black. I can still see my mouse pointer and one vertical pixel line of the desktop. Could it be the graphics drivers, if so how can I update/change them, via rebooting in safe mode and using command line?
