Ubuntu :: Changing Gnome 3 Login Screen?

Jun 18, 2011

When I upgraded to 11.04 and decided to give Gnome 3 a chance I was stuck with a windows 2000 (or Redmond like) theme. I have since been able to change the theme in the desktop environment however the Login Screen still maintains the Windows 2000 like theme. I have extensively Googled how to change this, but I keep coming up empty handed. Does anyone have any ideas of how to change the Login Screen theme.

OpenSUSE :: Shutdown Gnome Directly Without Getting Exited Into The Login Screen?

Dec 10, 2010

I am running Opensuse 11.3 which had the KDE desktop loaded by default. I have since installed the Gnome desktop which I access via the log in screen whenever I want to use it.

One thing that is annoying me is that whenever I load gnome I am unable to shut down the computer directly from the gnome panel.

When I click the shutdown button, I want the computer to shut down, but rather gnome exits into the login screen and it is from there that I need to click the shutdown button in order to shutdown the computer.

Is there a way to avoid this and be able to shutdown from the gnome panel?

I do not want to uninstall KDE as a solution, I would like the flexibility of having both desktops.

Is there any way to bypass this and just have the username displayed?

Debian :: Changing The Welcome / Login Screen On Squeeze?

Jul 17, 2010

I just installed Squeeze because Lenny didn't have the best Bluetooth support. (Just installed blueman and everything I have works without any configuring, by the way). In Lenny, gdmsetup would allow me to choose a theme for the login screen as well as change settings for logging in. With Squeeze, fully updated, I only get a couple simple options for changing automatic login (screen shot of gdmsetup).

There is a config file that I found: Code: /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults It is a simple config file but I do not know the available themes and cannot preview them.

Fedora :: Login Screen Hangs After Changing Monitor?

May 4, 2010

I have been searching this forum and google extensively for the last few hours, and I cant dig up anything useful. I have a very weird problem:

Install Fedora 12 from livecd on a widescreen monitor:

- Using Nvidia 96xx drivers for my Gforce2 MX

Everything runs fine at this point. Connect old 17" flatscreen and no network: Login freezes for about a minute after username selection, no password prompt, no mouse movement, no keyboard response, after timeout I return to login screen before username selection .. and can repeat this or.. At that point (or before that point) I can ctrl+alt F2 to 'terminal' screen, login works fine.

init 3, login as root
startx

Works fine then, resolution is %^# tho, and cant change it at that point due to errors I get. I'm convinced the problem has nothing to do with my X configuration tbh. Booting from the LiveCD on this configuration works fine. I am tempted to think it has something to do with my GDM, but as my knowledge is limited, I cant figure it out. If I reconnect the widescreen, it all works fine ...

OpenSUSE Install :: Login Screen Keeps Bouncing Back To Login Screen

Sep 17, 2010

I have installed VirtualBox and setup a Windows Vista host, initially with a .vdi of 10gb. That filled up quickly, so I added another 20gb secondary partition, after first trying to allocate a .vdi to a SCSI controller. Configured the drive in Windows (Computer Management), and all seemed ok. I shutdown VB, and rebooted my Linux host (openSuse 11.3). Now I keep bouncing back to the login screen, and can't login to Linux KDE, but can login to a console.I do have the following info:

/etc/fstab:
/dev/dis/by-id/ata-ST9250410ASG_5VG0B5VS-part5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/dis/by-id/ata-ST9250410ASG_5VG0B5VS-part6 / ext4 acl,user_xattr 1 1

[code]....

I did see a message before, that I don't see anymore, that said it could not start NFS services due to missing entry in fstab. Another I'm seeing now is it couldn't start the avahi-daemon, no space left on device. This is odd, since I have a 200GB drive, with half of it left, only max 30GB set to VB. Here's my df -k output:

/dev/sda6 Use% is 100%
devtmpfs Use% is 1%
tmpfs Use% is 1%
/dev/sda7 Use% is 46%

So root "/" is mounted on /dev/sda6, which looks like it could be a problem, but why would this suddenly be a problem after working with VirtualBox? Could this be a matter of just freeing up space on /dev/sda6? Like the /tmp folder that's under "/"?

Ubuntu :: 11.04 & Gnome 3 Login Screen?

Jun 19, 2011

downloaded and installed Gnome 3 on top of Ubuntu 11.04, Gnome 3's login screen appears and offers the following login options: Robert/Automatic Login/Other. Selection get nothing except the audio signal.

Have Login/restart/suspend in the upper right corner. Alt-f2 gets me to root login, except my 11.04 root login and password isn't accepted, so can't get in a root. I think that it is the Gnome GUI, as I have seen something about installing Compiz etc. I could just reinstall 11.04 or 10.10 for that matter, but hate to give up. So, if I could find out how to bring up the termainal, and then how to get to where I could add compiz or something??
