View 9 RepliesI am trying to update using Update Manager and I get this message: Failed to fetch "Failed to fetch [URL]..404 Not Found" My system is 64 days out of date now.
I have looked elsewhere for an answer and some others have had similar problems, but I have not found a reason for it happening, nor an answer. I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have been using Ubuntu for several months, can use the Terminal if I have the right commands to issue, but beyond that have limited knowledge of the system.
When i open update manager i get an error, i have attached the screenshot of the error.

When I attempt to run the updates that are found with Update Manager, it simply returns to the Update Manager screen as if nothing happens. The following is what appears in my terminal view. This is a Linux guest VM (VirtualBox) running on a Windows 7 pro 64-bit host.

The Live CD worked fine as did an install to the HD, but I get a message from Update manager that there are updates that need to be applied and these always fail. I've tried selecting different ones in case it is just a particular update, but nothing has updated.
The error message is below
installArchives() failed: Setting up tzdata (2011g-0ubuntu0.11.04) ...

Just installed 10.10 under Oracle VM VirtualBox and then installed VBOX additions to clear up monitor issues. Mozilla Firefox works and so does Evolution mail client (needs work though). Everything seems to work EXCEPT Update Manager.I consistently get Failure message: "Failed to download package files".
View 4 Replies View RelatedI regularly check for updates via Update Manager. I have, as of today started getting errors, some updates did not upload.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had an old machine running Feisty.I followed the EOL guides and upgraded from 7.04 => 7.10 => 8.04 => 8.10 (intrepid). Now that I'm at intrepid, I want to use the update manager to upgrade to 9.04 (Jaunty). Whenever I launch update manager (System->Administration->Update Manager) everything looks fine until I choose "New distribution release '9.04' is available" and click the Upgrade button.
At this point, Update Manager complains and says "Could not find the release notes" "The server may be overloaded". I'm assuming this could be a faulty URL somewhere, but I wouldn't know where. My sources.list seems to work fine for regular intrepid updates, so not sure there would be anything there that could be the fault. Once I get this error, I can only click "close".
Extracting the upgrade failed. There may be a problem with the network or with the server. Obviously, my general networking is fine (or I wouldn't be able to post this message)..and again, standard updates work fine.Any insight into what is causing this (or maybe how Update Manager works so that I might try a bit of debugging myself?
All of a sudden Update Manager cannot connect to Internet. I just recently fixed a problem I had with playdeb not installing the games due to a internet connection problem (fixed by downloading the script instead of terminal method), this is the only big change I done recently other than downloading documents and pictures.
Here is the detail as to where or why it cannot connect code...
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old computerd lying around and have been pleasantly surprised by it.I had a small problem with firefox not connecting to the internet but I managed to fix this by disabling ipv6 in about:config. The problem I now have is that update manager fails to download updates and gives a message saying failed to fetch several files.I'm connected to the internet via a wired router

When I went to use the browser, it showed a functional Fedora website. But if I try to go to goggle or any other web address, the browser complains that it can't resolve the web address.?
E: Type 'nchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-maverick.list E: The list of sources could not be read. The above is the console output when i type sudo apt-get update Update manager throws the same error so now I can't install or update software .
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt started with Update Manager constantly recycling and not updating. When it starts it shows 295 files and 308MB waiting to download. When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.
I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . While investigating all these possible solutions, I was directed in turn to the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, but when I attempted to start them, 'Starting Administrative Application' appeared briefly on the taskbar - and then disappeared!
After a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10-64bit I don't have Hardware Manager, Update Manager or Software Resources just to name a few.I tried sudo apt-get update & sudo apt-get upgrade & everything is up to date.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI started the upgrade to 10.4 from 9.10 through the update manager. It started the update to 10.4. After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? I just started using ubuntu about 15 days back. So, I am relatively new to this.

When i do update from Terminal, i dont get all updates which are in Update manager. Why?
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
I've run the command "sudo apt-get update" from terminal, showing no update to do.Then I've run the update manager (System-Administration-Update Manager) and it has shown an update (adobe flash).I thought that "apt-get update" command and update manager were the same... Why do I have different results ? Is something missing in my "sources.list" file ?
