I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 and is seems great! now I would like to know what do I have to do in order to enable it to write Hebrew? is there any guide that explains how to install other languages as well?
View 6 RepliesI'm working with Ubuntu for several months now, mainly for programming (so I'm pretty newbie), and I really liked it, so I deiced to install it on my old parents PC, so everytime I come home to visit them I won't have to install the entire OS all over again (somehow they manage to kill windows in few month ).so for my problem I download the last Hebrew Firefox from Mozilla Israel site firefox-3.6.10.tar.bz2.how do I install it ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know why the write speed of usb flash would be so slow? I'm running ubuntu off my flash drive but it is running really slow. I've tested the read speed which was about 33 meg a sec. But the write speed is only about 7 meg a sec. When running ubuntu it is very slow, not tolerable at all. I've read on some sites that there is a way to fix this but I'm not finding any good tutorials on making the write speed quicker.

I recently added a SS drive and after 2 hours it went into read only and busy mode. The machine see the drive as does tools like fdisk, fsck, qtparted, kde partition manager but I can't reset the device to make it write-able Do I need to RMA the device (it's 12 hours old) or is there a method to make the device usable again?

I need to change a filename but when I boot up I get the message root device is read-only. Is there a way of changing this so that I can change the filename. I have a Mac Pro running Leopard OSX. The graphics card an NVIDIA 7500GT or driver has failed. It was suggested elsewhere that I change the relevant kext files to filename.kext.old, which I did, now when I try to boot start in OSX I get a message in various languages telling me to restart. I have tried booting in safe mode and from original Installation CD. In Safe Mode I get the same multi language splash screen, from CD I still have the graphic card problem, screen freezes and artifacts appear. So I boot up straight into CLI by holding down CMD-S hoping to be able to change filenames back but it says device read-only.

I've blown a couple of DVDs trying to burn them with correct file masks (directories and files are read-only). There doesn't seem to be any documentation for K3b (building the index doesn't do squat and the help says "The file or folder help:/k3b/index.html does not exist"). I have 3 layouts: USA, Russian and Hebrew. In Hebrew the W key is mapped to apostrophe, so Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout doesn't close tabs in Firefox. There is no workaround for it as I see by now, so I am trying to get it work this way:I want to map Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout(which is actually a Ctrl+') to be a Ctrl+w. df -h [URL] I did the following command to find everything is in /usr or /var, then tracked it down to /usr/lib and /usr/share as the main offenders, but out of all the directories none are more than 1mb or so.
du -sh /* | sort -gr | head -n 5
I tried to uninstall firefox, which is what got me in this mess in the first place, the log claims it will remove ~240 mb but failes on a "E: Write error - write (28 No space left on device)" [URL] If I could juggle something onto an external hard drive so I can uninstall firefox I would be out of the wood. Failing that I believe a new install is in order.
I notice that when you try to Make link to any file or folder form context menu, It just copy the same file size? even when i tried to copy the link to external storage disk..

he clicks on everything on his GNOME desktop, and manages to delete everything, including menus, icons, etc. The people he lives with aren't skilled enough to fix it, and I live a good eight hours away. I have remote capabilities with NX, but that requires them to initiate a connection to my workstation here, which is more painful than I thought it would be. I need a way of locking down the desktop, so it's read-only, so he can't make the changes he seems to keep making. I figure I could make the .gnome directory read-only, but I don't know if that would affect the normal operation.

I cannot find any options in 'make menuconfig' to make these files modules rather than compiled elements. I'm thinking these cannot be modules because the file system won't work without open.c and read_write.c. Is this correct - I cannot compile fs/open.c and fs/read_write.c as modules, only as compiled elements? Or, is there some way for a module to overwrite these routines when the module is installed and re-enable the routines when the module is removed?
