I have multiple drives and software that defaults to my primary drive. I want to change preferences to use my second drive.This is the current path "/home/guy/dvdrip-data" my second drive is named "2Internal".How do I properly format the path statement to use the second drive?
View 7 RepliesOn Ubuntu 9.10 I installed Python 3.1.1 successfully with Synaptic Package Manager. However the Python interpreter cannot find my scripts, currently in /home/dave/pycode. This appends _temporarily_ but python remains clueless about location of my scripts. Searched Internet and some speak of .rc or .bashrc or .profile..files. Found some of these and opened with Komodo : they are Linux script files and I am clueless as to how to modify.Currently I can import my scripts only if I change to the /pycode dir before running.Lutz's Python book says to change PATH file - Ha .Sobell's "A practical Guide to Ubuntu Linux" is no help. Ubuntu's own on line help is worth less than a fart in a hurricane. Ubuntu's gedit would not even open bash.bashrc.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am running Debian Squeeze, 64-bit.I would like to try my hand at bash scripting. So at the author's suggestion (first chapter of Chris F. A. Johnson, Pro Bash Scripting from apress) I created a /bin directory in my home directory. So now I would like to modify my PATH statement so that when I run a script from my bin directory my shell will find it.I did that. He then says that I should add this to ".bash_profile, .bashrc, or .profile depending on how bash is invoked." The find command is unable to locate any of these files. So I searched the forum, found the link above and tried to follow that. No luck so I assume that how Debian handles PATH statements has changed since that post?
I also have checked the wiki and worked Google as hard as I know how to do.Very simply where the heck is my PATH statement and how do I modify it?

to figure out the files that haven't been accessed since 360 days. The command above will return results like this:

I'm taking here about tins of directories, thousands of files. I'm looking to find a command that makes me able to move the results above to another path, and to create that path once it doesn't exist like below:

But I want the executed command to create this path

We are building our C++ project in Kdevelop IDE. Every time we run "Run Configure" from the "Build" menu, a file named "libtool" gets automatically generated. This file contains a statement as "ECHO="echo"".f we run "Automake", without modifying the "libtool" the system hangs and theputer needs to be restarted.Therefore every time we run "Run Configure" we need to include the line "echo="echo"" below the statement "ECHO="echo"" manually.I think a script can be written which does the above on its own.I am not a shell script programmer, I know the good tutorials for shell scripts are available on the net, but learning scripting only for this task would be time-consuming and painful.

it simply takes a file (in this case, "mybigfile") and creates a ZIP file containing that file only. Now, my problem is that when I go to decompress the ZIP file, it creates the relative (or absolute, depending on case) path of the original file. To make an example:

What I need is *not* to store the path information inside of the ZIP file, so that once I decompress the ZIP file I only get the original one without having paths created.
I want to set up an installation server for CentOS 5.5, using PXE for boot, kickstart for package selection (one for server), and NFS for share all files needed.I've succesfully completed a fresh installation of CentOS5 from the DVD for one of my servers (virgil), and I've copied the anaconda-ks.cfg generated by the installer to my install server (beatrix).
Next, I've properly configured the /etc/dhcpd.conf , the /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/<IP_CODED> and the /etc/exports for NFS sharing on beatrix.Then, I've copied all the first DVD of CentOS5 content in this folder on beatrix: /opt/CentOS_install I've tried to start virgil from ethernet, and all has gone ok, with the kickstart and so on! But I've decided to apply the updates (new kernel, sudo, xorg, ...), so I've deleted the old rpms from /opt/CentOS_install/CentOS and copied the new ones (downloaded from http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5/updates/x86_64/RPMS/). So, I've launched the following commands to recreate the repodata:
root@beatrix:/opt/CentOS_install/ # mv repodata/comps.xml CentOS/
root@beatrix:/opt/CentOS_install/ # rm -fr repodata
root@beatrix:/opt/CentOS_install/ # createrepo -p -o /opt/CentOS_install/ -g comps.xml /opt/CentOS_install/CentOS
But when I try to reinstall virgil, an error message appears, telling me that a package (perl-DBI-...) isn't present in the media.After some debugging, I've noticed that in the /opt/CentOS_install/repodata/primary.xml.gz there isn't the correct path for the rpms. If you look at the original primary.xml, the "path" is like:path="CentOS/abcxyz.rpm" while in the generated file (with createrepo) the path is:
path="abcxyz.rpm".How can I recreate the repodata with the correct path information?
I am unable to create either a file or a directory in a specified path in Linux.
I am getting the error "No space left on device".
I have checked with df -k and df -i. Free disk space is 28 % and free inodes are 28 %.
What else could be the reason?

Now all I can input is the relative path. So if I want to go one level above my input will be ../mypath.
If I know the depth of the path used internally, I can use .. as many times to go to the root directory and then give the absolute path. But suppose I do not know the depth of the directory, can I construct a relative path string such that it considers it as a relative path. One way could be to have enough .. in the path string so that I can force an absolute path for some maximum depth of path.
Is there some path string syntax that I am not aware of but can achieve this?
Experimenting with shell variables, accidentally deleted the path variable how could I return to the original path value. What kinds of problems will I have if I don't have a path variable.

I've got a C program that I've added some 'printf' statements to monitor a couple of variables. When I run this program manually or from a script, the output is displayed on screen. However, I need to change various variables in the 'test.c' file, run 'make clean' and 'make' a few hundred thousand times. I'm using a script to read the variables in and then using sed to do in-place edits of the file. Unfortunately, with this amount of iteration, it is getting rather tired!
Anyway, I've created a script that is working as long I respond to prompts. I've tried the following to no avail: Code: /path/to/script > /tmp/output /path/to/script > /tmp/output 2>&1 /path/to/script | tee (no output even after adding the -a option) In my C program, I have the following 'printf' statement: Code: printf ("variable1: $s variable2: $s",var1,var2); What am I missing? I've worked with redirection before and it's always worked out fine, but this one plain stumps!
When I add some path in .bashrc by commenting out old path and adding new one like this:
#EXPORT HOME_PLAY=/home/gem/old_play

EXPORT PATH=$PATH:HOME_PLAY
After saving above changes, I enter the command: source ~/.bashrc Now if I do echo $PATH, the path shows both the old PLAY_HOME and new PLAY_HOME. This is really bad and messes up a lot of things in my project. This problem only goes away if I logout or reboot, a rather very long process. What is happening is that the old path is added to new path element and the old path includes the old path element you want to remove.
Does anyone know how to get the path with a inode number by C programming?
Or can I get the absolute path without giving a "path" but a inode number by C?
like this: get_path(unsigned inode);

I am trying to create a script to be used on RHEL server. If I replace the $t with a number, the script works. If I try add a variable or the $1, the script doesn?t work (returns all processes even if less than the $t value). I thought that it may be treating it as a literal, but I wasn?t sure of the conversion.

When you use an if statement directly in bash you have to put the ";" at the end or not? or am I mixing it with the for loop? I am reading advance bash scripting and it shows the if - then statements without ";" so I need a little clarification here.
