Using ubuntu 10.04 32-bit.I would like to disable or remap (preferably) the F11 key action which toggles full-screen mode.Disabling the feature has no effect. I can add a shortcut say mod4-F11 and that shortcut then becomes effective, but the F11 action remains.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and I don't like the fact the my viewpoint is being change when I use the window switcher (ALT+TAB). I tried going to the gconf-editor and changing the /apps/compiz/plugins/staticswitcher/screen0/options/auto_change_vp value to false, restarted.. it IS set to false, the CompizConfig settings manager shows that it is false, but for some reason it is still changing the viewpoint.
I tried disabling the window switcher completely just to see that the configuration works at all.. and it did work.. so, I'm not sure what to do so the view point won't change.
I have OpenSuse 11.3 with Gnome.I noticed that the compose key is set to Shift + Right-Ctrl as default. How can I change this? In the system / keyboard settings / options / compose key position I can set another compose key, but then it works additionally. The Shift + Right-Ctrl checkbox is of course unchecked.So how can I completely disable or change the compose key? And does this come from different compose key settings for XWindow and Gnome/GTK+?

I have an Audio CD with CD-Text. When it opens with Rhythmbox this warning (1) appears: Could not find this album on MusicBrainz. You can improve the MusicBrainz database by adding this album. I click on "Submit Album", then Firefox opens a page starting with [URL].. with this message (2): CD not found MusicBrainz doesn't currently have any CDs which have this TOC: I click on "Submit this CD using the simple method.", then on "FreeDB import". A.I have long boot up time.I think it's because of the eth0 network search which I don't use.I have an intel wireless 5300 card running.How can I speed up the boot time, i.e. disable or change the eth0 at boot, the searching?
B:When I restart or shutdown, the screen flashes repeatedly and gets some garbled colors along the top before finally rebooting looks like windows ME or something).This vostro has an intel x4500HD vid chipset in it.
C.How do I get into gnome configuration editor to turn on Metacity compositing? Alt-F2 and run gconf-editor doesn't do it. I don't do compiz, but need compositing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix on my Gateway LT3103u. I noticed shortly into using it that it has a graphics bug every so often. Especially when I change the background image. Everything will change to a warped mix of colors and pixels. Everything is affected. My mouse, the bar at the top of the screen, text and all. My netbook runs on an AMD Athlon 64-bit processor with ATI Radeon X1270 HyperMemory up to 256MB graphics.
So far I have tried reinstalling, and even the 64bit desktop edition which had the same problem. Ive noticed that it freaks out when i scroll too quick, when changing background images, and on certain websites. Then other times its completely random. When it happens it looks similar to these: [URL]
I currently have a Windows XP OS which i want to dual-boot with Ubuntu Linux 10.10 . I put the disk in the drive and chose the option to install Linux through Windows. But it hangs in the middle. I am also unable to change my BIOS settings due to which i can"t change my boot preference. My first Boot is the HDD. I want to change it to CD-ROM. Any suggestion? I also have another PC where i can boot through the CD...I tried installing there by booting from the CD but i get this error message after seeing the purple Linux screen with the loading dots. No.1 I would like to change the HORRIBLE!! YAK!! brown background color behind the word Ubuntu in the start up screen when the machine loads up (before the login). I have located the image file for this which I have found to be: /usr/share/images/xsplash/bg_2560x1600. jpg but the OS says that root is the owner and that I don't have permission to change this. So how can I change this for a color I do like.
No.2 I would also like to change the login dialogue screen style. I know this is possible but again I'm fumbling to see how I can do this. I have tried with the start up manager but every attempt fails, the settings don't take. Once again I suspect permissions are at the bottom of the problem?
No.3 Would like to have a colorful splash screen image on boot up, I've managed to remove the old one (small white 3 ring ubuntu logo on black background) but havent been able to install or replace with a new one. Its been incredibly frustrating, I'm feel sure I'm missing something simple here. Wondering if its permissions yet again?
Anyone who can offer help on any of the above, guidance or advise me would be much appreciated. Please bear in mind that I'm still very much feeling my way with Linux so keep it simple.
I changed it and got it working a long time ago but i installed 10.10 (great work BTW ) and have forgotten completely.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had issues with changing the pointer when compiz was active in ubuntu 10.10. it would not change when on the desktop, only when hovering over a window.I solved this issue by doing the following:
Hit alt f2 and enter-> gconf-editor
Then goto-> /->apps->compiz->general->allscreens->options
Then in "cursor_themes" type in the name of the pointer theme(Eg. DMZ-White)
This should resolve the issue with compiz.I am not going to go over that here.Oh yea don't forget to logout/login or press ALT F2 and enter compiz - -replace to refresh the pointer...

I noticed that the installation doesn't mention DST as an option. Does Ubuntu allow for operating without DST? If so, how can I disable it?
