Ubuntu :: Getting "checking For Library Stdc++ No" When Trying To Compile Ncurses On Lucid

Jun 27, 2010

I do have libstdc++6 and libstdc++6-4.4-dev installed though. I can't seem to figure out why it wouldn't detect it. Is it just a bug in ncurses' configure or what?

i try to compile a c code which uses SSH library, but i get this error

Code:
libssh.h: No such file or directory

i searched and i found that This happens if a library used for linking is not present in the standard library directories used by gcc.

By default, gcc searches the following directories for header files:

/usr/local/include/
/usr/include/

and the following directories for libraries:

/usr/local/lib/
/usr/lib/

i update my libssh from libssh-0.4.2-1.fc13.i686 to libssh-0.4.6-1.fc13.i686, and there are files called libssh.so.4 and libssh.so.4.0.2 in /ur/lib, but i still can't compile it with this command:

Programming :: Compile Static Libcurl Library Under Windows ?

I have been working on this for a long time.

I could get the static libcurl library ( a "libcurl.lib" file and a "curl.h" file), which supposed to be working under Windows.

Yet I tried Visual c++ 6.0 but it wasn't working at all.

Some idea on that ? I don't mind to try MinGW and Dev C++ if it will really work. (Cygwin is not good since it require client to have cygwin.dll in run-time folder).

General :: Use Compile File Build Package Without Messing Up Library

Apr 11, 2010

I want to build a package from source using src2pkg, but I don't know how to avoid library miss match. Suppose I have Firefox 3.5.2 on Slackware 13.0 64 and I want to upgrade it to 3.6.2. Last time when I venturesomely installed Firefox-3.6.2-current into my Slackware 13.0, I got library miss match. Thus, instead of upgrading the whole packages to current (which is impractical and cumbersome), I want to build 3.6.2 from source. How can I do this? Is there any guideline how to use src2pkg? Or should I rather use makepkg? Do I need to create a Makefile?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Shared Music Library Between Lucid Lynx And XP

Jun 24, 2010

I've decided to make the plunge and switch to linux! Actually, I plan to dualboot Win XP and Ubuntu 10.04. I figure I might as well keep XP for a few games and for syncing my iPod nano with iTunes.I want to set up my computer so that my music library on my windows partition will be accessible to Banshee (or perhaps another program) so that I can listen to my tunes in Linux. However, I want to make it so that Banshee can't actually edit my files/tags (I want to leave iTunes in charge of that). I just want it to be able to play the mp3s and aac's (none of my files are in DRM format luckily). So I guess what I am asking, is can I make my iTunes folder on the Windows partition READ-ONLY to the Linux OS maybe?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Compile LAME With LIBSNDFILE On Lucid?

Oct 17, 2010

I am a happy Ubuntu user, I run it on all of my servers.

A few days ago I setup a new slice, and now I want to use it to convert ULAW (μ-law) WAV files into MP3's.

If I would only install LAME this would give me an 'Unsupported data format: 0x0007'. Because LAME doesn't support ulaw encoded wav's only Linear PCM's.

I have read that one can use the Libsndfile and use it with LAME --fileio=libsndfile (or something like that) when 'MAKE'-ing Lame. In this case because of the additional encoding library sndfile Lame can read and encode the ulaw into mp3.

I have also read another solution is to first convert the ulaw-wav into a pcm-wav with sox, and afterwards convert the output into an mp3 with lame. This seems to be a lot of extra system resources.

I am looking for a hands on tutorial howto wget, compile, install and run LAME with Libsndfile on Ubuntu Lucid (commandline only) so I can encode incoming ulaw files into mp3's?

Programming :: Ncurses Screen Prints Garbage

Feb 9, 2011

I actually have two reasons for posting this. One is to see if there's an actual name for characters like this:Hopefully that will show up correctly for you. If not, it's a little box with four numbers in it, one in each corner. I don't know their name or their reason for showing up, so it's hard to look for help.

My main problem, though, is that I wrote a program that prints some output to a console using ncurses as it runs. These characters show up on the console, seemingly at random, and disturb the whole thing. Sometimes I'll also get sets of characters like "[13;" I'm not printing anything bizarre on there, just strings and floating-point numbers.

Programming :: SDL Static Library - Shared Library ?

Apr 7, 2009

I'm reading about shared, static, and dynamic libraries. What is SDL? Is it static, shared, or dynamic?

I always thought a library would be a lot of .h and .cpp files compiled separately into .o files and then if you compiled your own program you could use the -l parameter to link the library and it was all compiled together. Now I'm not so sure.

I don't even see any SDL .cpp files in my system anywhere. All I have are lots of SDL .h files in /usr/include/SDL and I don't really understand the code in them.

I'm making a wild guess here: SDL is a shared library. SDL itself is NOT compiled into my program, therefore SDL must be on any system my program tries to run on. When I compile and link SDL all it needs is the header files to know what SDL function and objects it can use. And then on every system it uses an already compiled SDL shared library thingy somewhere.

So... where is that part of SDL? All I can find are header files.

I'm thinking the advantage of shared libraries is that someone could say update SDL on their own system and take advantage of the new features without having to download new executables with the new version of SDL compiled into them for every program that uses SDL.

So if I'm making an editor and a game engine and they both use a lot of the same .cpp and .h files that I wrote and I'm tired of updating one and then the other and I need to turn them into a library, then a shared library might be kind of a silly solution. I could just make a static library. Right? Because it's not SDL. Nobody else is ever going to use this library.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Compile Amarok 1.4.10 In Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" ?

May 5, 2010

As my previous thread about compiling the good old Amarok 1.4.10 for 9.10 and make it work properly again was well accepted, I post here the script for doing the same for the recent version 10.04.

In the old thread, there are some really great improvements like a better wiki-patch: [url]

Code:

The ~/ before Downloads makes sure, that you can run the script from wherever you are in your system (stands for your home directory). Further, omit the checkinstall line, as this is not necessary in a script.. The sleep commands in between allow users to check, if everything went fine before going to the next step.

I can confirm the above script is working and Amarok 1.4.10 is set up correctly on a justsetup system.

And yes, I was to lazy too write a proper error handling^^

I didn't perform any larger testing.. Open the program an playback worked. My iPod worked also including artwork.

By the way: Because of self-compiling, a nice little extension program is working again, amarokFS (FullScreen).

That's the way to install it:

Code:

Debian :: Name Of Package That Prints Ncurses Style Dialogs During 'aptitude Safe-upgrade'

Mar 1, 2010

I'm running Debian squeeze and my packages are all up to date. I usually do my updates by typing 'aptitude update' and 'aptitude safe-upgrade' at the command line as root.Sometimes when doing regular updates aptitude, or the package that's being updated, shows a ncurses-style dialog box on the screen, usually to have the user 'OK' a change, or to select which version of a configuration file to keep. Recently I've found these dialog boxes to be slightly messed up... in that the spot at the bottom where I would expect the 'OK' button to be is replaced by nonsensical characters.

There seems to be no problem with the way that the program functions, as I can press the tab key and then the return key, or just the return key alone, and the dialog goes away, seemingly doing it's job. But I would like to know what this program is. It's likely been updated recently, but looking through /var/log/aptitude and /var/log/aptitude.1.gz I cannot figure out which one it is. I'd like to file a bug report, or simply be able to follow the progress of someone else's bug. That's all.
