Recently I have found myself getting terrible disk thrashing, to the point that my desktop is almost uncontrollable. I have found that killing the plug-in container task (I'm using 64-bit Firefox 4) brings the thrashing to an end. In other words it's a problem to do with Flash.
In my frustration to get adobe flash working in firefox I deleted the /usr/lib/flash-plugin folder. Now when I try to uninstall "Flash-Plugin" from YAST it fails as it can't find the sub-folder. I also cannot install the latest version of flash player as it says that it is already installed - So I am stuck in a loop.
I am running SUSE 11.2.
Is there a config file of installed programs that I can modify to remove the "Flash-Plugin" entry, or is there another way to get over this problem.
Acer Travelmate laptop, 1.3GHz Pentium M, 12MB Ram.pensuse 11.4 (upgraded from 11.3)Vanilla install, not running anything special, always startup and shutdown from scratch, never sleepFor several minutes after KDE appears and I open an app (any app, e.g. Chrome) the hard disk is going nuts. WTF is it doing and how do I stop it? Also some programs take years to start, e.g. digicam took TEN minutes the other day even after waiting a while after booting, the disk thrashing the whole time. But in 11.3 it started almost instantly.
I've been having this issue since at least 9.10. I'm randomly encountering disk thrashing and application freezing which lasts around 30 seconds. Some applications seem to encounter this more often than others. Firefox and Picasa are pretty reliable at reproducing the issue. It also happens often when I'm using Transmission. CPU usage is not unusually high during the 'thrashing' sessions. Running iotop hasn't shed any light on the problem either. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this or maybe someone could give me some clues. I'm running a dell inspiron 530 with ubuntu 10.04 64bit. I have 4gb of ram. Here is my 'df -h' if that is helpful.
Just loaded Squeeze (KDE) onto a partition on my desktop and am a bit alarmed by the disk thrashing thats going on? Damn light on constantly. if I didn't know better I'd think I was using Vista. Is this something to do with 'nepomukservices' that seems to be taking a fair amount of cpu time? Not used to KDE 4 so maybe this is normal.
I've noticed tracker-store burning CPU and thrashing disk when I login to a KDE session. I'm tempted to disable it by modifying /etc/xdg/autostart/tracker-store.desktop. But before I do that, what added value does it bring to the party? It seems like it's mainly involved with desktop indexing, which I never use (does anyone?).
I am using openSUSE 11.0. This OS installation gives firefox 3.0.5 Beta. I had installed new version of firefox at /usr/local/bin/firefox. I had placed link of this firefox at /usr/bin using this command ->
Code:
linux-snvz:/usr/bin # ln -s /usr/local/bin/firefox/firefox firefox My older firefox contains the flush plugin. So i can easily played ..... video's in my browser. But now my new browser saying that it doesn't have flash plugin. I was tried to install flash plugin once again.

Even after installation also my browser is again without flash plugin.

i'm having problems with the flash plugin. a lot of sites that use flash for buttons and things just won't work. this happens a lot with videos videos posted on blogs and such, although they seem to work, mostly but not always, on the actual videos website. i didn't have this problem with earlier versions of flash, is it possible to downgrade the version i'm using? using 10.04lts 64 bit. i installed flash via synaptic, flashplugin-installer 10.1.82.76
Recently I am getting problems to open a couple of sites, example: [URL]...Firefox process consumes 70% of the processor when it is open.My flash plugin is sun-java6-jre, ubuntu repositories.Somebody what do know happen? is the flash the responsible ?

Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit. I have "flashplugin-nonfree" installed running on this OS: $ apt-cache policy flashplugin-nonfree Code: flashplugin-nonfree: Installed: 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1 Candidate: 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1 Version table: 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1 0 .....
I download "persistence-lesson01.zip" on [URL] and decompress it. Code: lesson01.html lesson01.swf ProductionInfo.xml swfobject.js On clicking "lesson01.html" it asks to "Download Adobe Flash Player". On completion of installation it popup "adobe-flashplugin is virtual".
I found following link: adobe-flashplugin is virtual on 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 [URL] and ran; $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sevenmachines/flash && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install flashplugin64-installer and got the package installed. On clicking "lesson01.html" it asks to "Download Adobe Flash Player" again.
When going to full screen mode in You Tube I get a message that says"adobe flash plugin has crashed.I have installed FlashAid on firefox but still the problem remains.
Ubuntu 10.10 - Flash 10 plugin - Firefox 3.6.12 (all latest versions of their kind). When I try to play programs from BBC iPlayer website, the message on the screen informs me that I don't have the correct Flash plug-in, I follow the links to download this, but of course my computer does have Flash 10 plug-in already installed. I have tried removing this and reinstalling both from the website link and from Ubuntu repository, but still cannot convince Firefox that I do indeed have the necessary Flash plug-in.
I went to a page in firefox that I knew requires flash, and saw the little button saying that firefox was trying to install a missing plugin. I hit the button and it gave me three options on the plugin. I selected adobe flash. I then got a popup that says, "Could not find package, 'flashplugin_installer" -
Just upgraded to 11.04 afterwards I am missing a plug-in to see ..... type videos online. I think that in the process I was asked to disable 3rd party apps. If that is the problem, how do I re-enable the apps?
Flash videos don't play properly on some websites.I'm using Ubuntu 11.04I tried all flash plugins, tried flash aid addon for firefox... but nothing seems to work.Does it concern my video card? (intel 965)What can I do in order to get it right?
I made the 'mistake' of telling Update Manager that I didn't want to install the Adobe Flash Player Plugin Version 10', when Update Manager offered me the option. Now it's still there, grayed out, I can't install it (what I want to do) or remove it from Update Manager.
I have problem with installing flash plugin in ubuntu 9.10. I tried it through synaptic package manager, there it shows connecting to archive, canonical site and it will not proceed after that.
Code: dpkg: error processing adobe-flashplugin (--remove): Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal. Errors were encountered while processing: adobe-flashplugin E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) A package failed to install. Trying to recover: Press return to continue.
Now I can't install anything, I am using Kubuntu 9.10, and have tried fixing this with aptitude and nothing works.
These are some of the things I tried. Code: sudo dpkg --clear-avail sudo dpkg configure -a sudo dpkg --remove adobe-flashplugin sudo dpkg --install adobe-flashplugin
I can get sound with my integrated sound but I have a sound card in the pci slot that i want to use (more specefically my video card can play sound through an hdmi cable which i use.it is hooked up to a tv).the system sound and audio players and video players all play sound through the pci slot but flash will not.it keeps playing sound throught the integrated sound. is there anyway i can change the sound device with the flash plugin?ive tried pulseaudio but that was a disaster and would rather not use that again.
I am very new to Ubuntu, decided to try it again with the new 10.4. I really need to have flash player plugin installed, but I get this error: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. I even tried to go through the software center and the extra install through the help site from the firefox browser, but still get the error message.
I have a big problem with the flash plugin... Since a couple of weeks ..... and some internet sites with flash content don't work... sounds load and playback correctly but I see a grey square instead of the video.
One weird thing is that ..... videos work perfectly when tagged/embedded in another site, such as facebook or a gmail chat, but on the ..... official site I can't see a thing.
