View 9 RepliesI installed Ubuntu 10.04 and experience freezing a couple of minutes after Firefox is opened. Everything is freeze (keyboard, mouse) and the only solution is to reboot. I use xorg-server version 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 Attached is the dmesg output.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got an odd problem and was wondering if anyone had any insight. I'm on Ubuntu 9.10 on a Gateway E-100M and everything works great except for firefox. My machine will hard freeze about once a day when using firefox. The whole OS -- no mouse movement, no keyboard response, etc.I've switched to Chrome for weeks and I get no issues at all. I switched back to firefox and it hard froze within the first hour or so. I know it's unusual that an individual program would freeze the whole OS rather than just crash, but it seems to be a fairly consistent pattern.

It does this even in safe mode, or if all the addons and extentions are disabled. I have even tried deleting and creating a new profile. Chrome works fine. Also, on another login account, firefox is working fine!

I am using Ubuntu Lucid and have a problem with firefox (V 3.6.10). It often causes the whole system to freeze nearly every time I access skypoker.com, sometimes straight away, and sometimes within a few seconds or a few minutes. The whole system becomes unresponsive, with only the mouse being able to move (not click). I haven't seen this problem occur with any other sites. This problem does not seem to occur when I use google chrome, but it does with Konqueror. Control + Alt + F1 is unresponsive, along with every other keyboard stroke or mouse click and the only way I can do anything is to restart the computer with the power button.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi've noticed a problem this morning when watching bbc flash videos on firefox (3.6). whilst the video is playing, firefox is fine and new tabs can be opened. but once you close the tab or window where the video was, firefox freezes and has to force quit. other flash video sites like videos, cnn, sky news, guardian and flash games seem okay and firefox doesn't freeze. bbc videos seem okay on firefox on winxp too. the bbc problem occurs on news video and on iplayer vids.

when i attempt to watch a movie on hulu, it appears to work for a brief moment and then freezes and the browser window goes grey. i've left it sitting like that for over 15 minutes and eventually had to force quit it.i'm able to use the gnome desktop effects and have no problems viewing other multimedia, like videos, etc. i'm very new to ubuntu and linux in general. i'm a mac head and still love mac's but have grown very fond of ubuntu in a short amount of time.
Firefox grays out and doesn't unfreeze until the entire upload is complete.I can't do anything else on the internet while this is happening.This didn't bother me until now, because I need to upload some pretty high quality pictures to Flickr, and it takes about fifteen or twenty minutes to do so.I'd like if the pictures could simply upload in the background while I do other stuff, instead of completely freezing my internet usage in the process.I don't have a problem downloading files quietly in the background not even large files so why can't I upload files without freezing everything up? Is this normal, or is there a fix for this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with Adobe Flashplayer 10. It seems to be incompatible with a countdown timer on a specific site. I use firefox and when I open the site firefox freezes , hangs for a while and then I get an Adobe flashplayer 10 error stating the script encountered a problem. This is how and know the problem is the adobe flash and I know it is with that countdown timer as it only started when that was added to the site. Obviously it is a compatibility problem as it doesn't hapen on my Windows pc.
My question is two parts: a. Is there another flash player I can try with Firefox and b. If yes How do I uninstall the Adobe Flashplayer and install the other one.
Ubuntu 10.04.1 64 bit with all latest automatic updates , browser is Firefox.

View 5 Replies View RelatedFirefox 4 becomes completely unresponsive for about 5 seconds. It seems to be happening mostly but not exclusively when switching tabs. At first I thought the problem was flash related but I was wrong, it happens regardless of the pages contents. Also, the problem seems to be more frequent as more tabs are open.It's interesting that it happens only on my computer at work (Intel Q33) but not at home (NVidia GTX 570). Both computers run Fedora 15 with Gnome 3 (HW accelerated). I also tried starting in fallback mode but the problem remained.

Not always in the same websites, but it always happens sometime in the first 2 or 3 minutes of running. I can see the hard disk led is ON all the time the browser is hung.
My operating system is Linux and I don't currently have any extension/plugin installed here.
I have no form completion, no history and have no more than 20-30 bookmarks.
Has somebody noticed something similar, or know how can I debug this to find out what Firefox is doing or trying to do?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSince yesterday firefox (Namoroka) has been constantly freezing; prior to yesterday it worked perfectly. I've tried un-installing and re-installing, but that didn't fix it. I even tried un-installing Namoroka and installing firefox 3.5 (via apt-get install firefox-3.5), but somehow I continue to get firefox 3.6 (aka Namoroka). Anyone know how to resolve my Namoroka issues or how to install the seemingly more stable 3.5 version? I don't know if this makes a difference, but I originally had installed ubuntu and then installed kde (kubuntu-desktop) desktop on top of it. And yes, I've checked my sources.list to make sure mozilla-daily repository is not listed.

I installed OpenSUSE 11.3 yesterday. When I begin to use Mozilla Firefox (version automatically installed with OpenSUSE 11.3) the cursor freezes or locks up (when I move the mouse/cursor-pointer), and the only way I can do anything is turn off the computer and start over (to no avail, because it does the same thing within a a minute or so after entering Mozilla Firefox. I did not have this problem with OpenSUSE 11.2.

I turn it off at night.Every morning when I turn it back on and open Firefox, I have to wait while the machine is busy/freezes for maybe a minute. This usually happens twice, but sometimes three times. The processor light is on solid when it does this.I've run TOP from the terminal, and it says it's XORG that's running.
This only happens when Firefox is running, and when I first turn on the laptop after it being turned off for a while. Every morning, when I first run Firefox, XORG takes control of the laptop. Not a big deal, but frustrating and worrisome.
Every time after I resume from suspend, firefox freezes up to 7sec at "flashed" sites.That is very annoying. If I disable the adobe flash plugin, it is smooth without flash. If I restart my laptop, everything goes flawlessly. It did not if I restart the X service.This also affects the chromium on both the smooth scroll and the freezing at flashed sites. Every time I try to load a divx video Firefox ends up freezing, ultimately leading to dialog box giving me the option to terminate Firefox. No matter what plugin I try to use it's the same problem. I've tried mplayerplug-in, which shows a gray background with the Mplayer logo where the video should be but it keeps buffering, once I press play it freezes. I tried the vlc browser plugin which doesn't seem to even recognize anything and I tried gecko-mplayer, which didn't even show the logo and buffering. I tired removing Firefox and all the plugins and tried installing them again to no avail.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWe are having a cluster with couple of disk servers, compute nodes and a head node. Disk server is nfs mounted on all the compute and head nodes.
The problem is that if any of the disk servers hangs, it freezes rest of the cluster too which is dangerous. Ideally, cluster should not care about the hanged server and run without any problem except files from that server is not visible.
Is there any way I could avoid the problem of freezing cluster because of one hanged server?

The only extension that isn't working is FEBE which is incompatible w/ firefox5beta (profile, extension and preference backup). Have to use FEBE beta7 under Firefox4 so I don't think a compatible release for Firefox5beta is going to come out any time soon.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded (via Ubuntuzilla) to firefox 3.5.7 and now, every single time I close Firefox, the program seems to crash without quitting completely.
First, I receive an error saying that the program will not close and asks me if I want to Force Quite or Wait for it to close on its own. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Karmic and if I just wait it usually quits fully after a couple seconds.
Now what happens is this: the window still closes, but if I try to reopen Firefox then I get this error stating that Firefox is already open and therefore cannot be opened again. The only way to get back into Firefox is to restart the entire computer. (Incidentally, this is the same problem that occurs whenever I try to Force Quit Firefox)
This now happens every single time I "close" Firefox.
Does anyone know the source of this error? Or a workaround?

For whatever reason I can't get FF to show all of the add-ons I have. Yes, they are installed and they appear when as icons when I first boot up but after I close FF and start it again there are no icons (like Adblock).
Im using firefox version 3.6.12 and it functions fine. However when i use the latest version of this addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...11377/#reviews the screen goes grey and firefox crashes. Restarting firefox only results in more crashes. I had a older version of this addon-1.5 i believe that worked fine.
