Today Firefox is freezing and the HDD is running constantly. I ran into this problem about a year ago on an earlier version of Ubuntu and was able to solve the problem but can't remember what the solution was
View 1 RepliesSince yesterday firefox (Namoroka) has been constantly freezing; prior to yesterday it worked perfectly. I've tried un-installing and re-installing, but that didn't fix it. I even tried un-installing Namoroka and installing firefox 3.5 (via apt-get install firefox-3.5), but somehow I continue to get firefox 3.6 (aka Namoroka). Anyone know how to resolve my Namoroka issues or how to install the seemingly more stable 3.5 version? I don't know if this makes a difference, but I originally had installed ubuntu and then installed kde (kubuntu-desktop) desktop on top of it. And yes, I've checked my sources.list to make sure mozilla-daily repository is not listed.

When I move the mouse (or press a key on the keyboard), my system resumes execution for approximately 2 seconds, and then freezes again. This problem is not restricted to Debian,'ve ncountered similar problems with other linux distributions on my hardware. Whenever I run for instants skype, facebook, and a video call it seems like my computer can't handle it and it constantly freezes. I'm not sure if I have the wrong settings or what; but it never did this when I had windows installed on this pc. I would love to keep ubuntu but I can't handle it freezing every 5 minutes. I'm kind of computer retarded when it comes to this ha so sorry. I am on 10.4 9.10 froze just as much though
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Travelmate 630(14.1" model) running Ubuntu 11.04 and I have experienced a frequent amount of freezing. Usually when I log in, the login sound effect doesn't play, the cursor turns into a wheel which changes back to the normal cursor, then changes into the wheel, but frozen. At this point the computer has completely frozen, nothing moving, no input of any kind responisive, and I have to hard reboot. Several times after that the problem goes away and I am able to log in and use it normally. I also experienced freezing when loading up Ubuntu Software Centre and using Firefox.
Sometimes after leaving it for a while, the problem is gone, but after an hour or two completely freezes again. Everything on the machine is stock, apart from upgraded 1GB RAM and 60GB HDD. And I use an external monitor because the internal one has a damaged cable(replacement coming soon). Are there anyways I can track down the problem? I have already uninstalled compiz and am running Ubuntu Classic mode. I am happy to downgrade to 9.04 as that is compatible with my USB WiFi adaptor without doing complex stuff, but would like to solve the problem on 11.04.
I'm running Ultimate Edition 2.0 64bit. When I'm running Firefox and I'm not doing anything on it it starts to use the disk intensively. I checked on terminal using the top command and it IS Firefox using up to 85-90% of the resources. Anyone know what the problem is here? Can it be hacked? I already uninstalled and installed back again and it still doing it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 10.10 x64. When I try to change the setting to powersave or ondemand the applet resets back to performance after a few seconds. It is causing my laptop to get hotter than necessary. Which is bad.
Also, the computer tends to freeze at random times and a few seconds afterwards the screen will blank to a color like purple or white. sometimes vertical stripes too. I have had this issue since I installed 10.10. (It happened twice trying to type this post >.<)

I tried Chromium, Firefox, flash versions from 8 and up; it runs but makes firefox crash, chromium does not crash but it's all slow and breaky. Flash 9 runs and does not crash but has no sound. No version on any browser can run HD flashes, it just breaks up and runs like in 3 second interval frames.I have tried everything I've read and spent 3 months trying to watch the nfl.com unsuccessfully. Is flash working smoothly for anybody?

My machine will hard freeze about once a day when using firefox. The whole OS -- no mouse movement, no keyboard response, etc.I've switched to Chrome for weeks and I get no issues at all. I switched back to firefox and it hard froze within the first hour or so. I know it's unusual that an individual program would freeze the whole OS rather than just crash, but it seems to be a fairly consistent pattern.

It does this even in safe mode, or if all the addons and extentions are disabled. I have even tried deleting and creating a new profile. Chrome works fine. Also, on another login account, firefox is working fine!

I am using Ubuntu Lucid and have a problem with firefox (V 3.6.10). It often causes the whole system to freeze nearly every time I access skypoker.com, sometimes straight away, and sometimes within a few seconds or a few minutes. The whole system becomes unresponsive, with only the mouse being able to move (not click). I haven't seen this problem occur with any other sites. This problem does not seem to occur when I use google chrome, but it does with Konqueror. Control + Alt + F1 is unresponsive, along with every other keyboard stroke or mouse click and the only way I can do anything is to restart the computer with the power button.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi've noticed a problem this morning when watching bbc flash videos on firefox (3.6). whilst the video is playing, firefox is fine and new tabs can be opened. but once you close the tab or window where the video was, firefox freezes and has to force quit. other flash video sites like videos, cnn, sky news, guardian and flash games seem okay and firefox doesn't freeze. bbc videos seem okay on firefox on winxp too. the bbc problem occurs on news video and on iplayer vids.

when i attempt to watch a movie on hulu, it appears to work for a brief moment and then freezes and the browser window goes grey. i've left it sitting like that for over 15 minutes and eventually had to force quit it.i'm able to use the gnome desktop effects and have no problems viewing other multimedia, like videos, etc. i'm very new to ubuntu and linux in general. i'm a mac head and still love mac's but have grown very fond of ubuntu in a short amount of time.
Firefox grays out and doesn't unfreeze until the entire upload is complete.I can't do anything else on the internet while this is happening.This didn't bother me until now, because I need to upload some pretty high quality pictures to Flickr, and it takes about fifteen or twenty minutes to do so.I'd like if the pictures could simply upload in the background while I do other stuff, instead of completely freezing my internet usage in the process.I don't have a problem downloading files quietly in the background not even large files so why can't I upload files without freezing everything up? Is this normal, or is there a fix for this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with Adobe Flashplayer 10. It seems to be incompatible with a countdown timer on a specific site. I use firefox and when I open the site firefox freezes , hangs for a while and then I get an Adobe flashplayer 10 error stating the script encountered a problem. This is how and know the problem is the adobe flash and I know it is with that countdown timer as it only started when that was added to the site. Obviously it is a compatibility problem as it doesn't hapen on my Windows pc.
My question is two parts: a. Is there another flash player I can try with Firefox and b. If yes How do I uninstall the Adobe Flashplayer and install the other one.
Ubuntu 10.04.1 64 bit with all latest automatic updates , browser is Firefox.

View 5 Replies View RelatedFirefox 4 becomes completely unresponsive for about 5 seconds. It seems to be happening mostly but not exclusively when switching tabs. At first I thought the problem was flash related but I was wrong, it happens regardless of the pages contents. Also, the problem seems to be more frequent as more tabs are open.It's interesting that it happens only on my computer at work (Intel Q33) but not at home (NVidia GTX 570). Both computers run Fedora 15 with Gnome 3 (HW accelerated). I also tried starting in fallback mode but the problem remained.

Not always in the same websites, but it always happens sometime in the first 2 or 3 minutes of running. I can see the hard disk led is ON all the time the browser is hung.
My operating system is Linux and I don't currently have any extension/plugin installed here.
I have no form completion, no history and have no more than 20-30 bookmarks.
Has somebody noticed something similar, or know how can I debug this to find out what Firefox is doing or trying to do?

I installed OpenSUSE 11.3 yesterday. When I begin to use Mozilla Firefox (version automatically installed with OpenSUSE 11.3) the cursor freezes or locks up (when I move the mouse/cursor-pointer), and the only way I can do anything is turn off the computer and start over (to no avail, because it does the same thing within a a minute or so after entering Mozilla Firefox. I did not have this problem with OpenSUSE 11.2.

I turn it off at night.Every morning when I turn it back on and open Firefox, I have to wait while the machine is busy/freezes for maybe a minute. This usually happens twice, but sometimes three times. The processor light is on solid when it does this.I've run TOP from the terminal, and it says it's XORG that's running.
This only happens when Firefox is running, and when I first turn on the laptop after it being turned off for a while. Every morning, when I first run Firefox, XORG takes control of the laptop. Not a big deal, but frustrating and worrisome.
