I have a rather strange issue I'm attempting to fix here. One of the servers I work with had a log file reach 2GB in size and stopped logging. The software which is logging to said file cannot be stopped or restarted and does not provide a way to rotate log files -- poor design, I know. So in my infinite wisdom (or stupidity, however you want to read that), I truncated the log file in place with:
Code: >vmsproxy.log When I realized the log file was not being appended to, I checked lsof output and it
we have installed vignette software on the linux box and would like to uninstall it. To uninstall it we need to delete one file named vpd.properties. When we used locate vpd.properties, the file is found in 2 places. But when we used the ls -a in those locations the file is not seen. basically we want to remove that file. If we do rm vpd.properties, this also doesn't work. Also when we used find -H vpd.properties the file is not found. What is wrong here. I am sure the file vpd.properties will be added to file system as part of vignette. Can anyone suggest what could be wrong here.We logged in as root user to remove this file. Installation is done twice using root and vignette user ids. Thats why file is located in 2 places.
I'm running CentOS 5.3 64bit and from the get go I've had problems with the Apache serverMore specifically, on what seems to be a random occurance, the apache server stops to respond. The process is still running, but nothing happens with it, and it is not responding. The /var/logs/httpd/error_log is blank for the occurance and only shows an entry after I give it a restartSo I'm a bit confused about what is going on.With that said, I need to make sure the httpd is working one way or another.I don't want to force a restart service every 10 minutes as this seems a bit too much. However, I do want to have the following:run a crond every minute to do:
rm -Rf /root/testarea/* wget http://ip/work.gif then check if work.gif exists.

I'm only partially new to Linux. I'm running Fedora 11. I've just set up two machines, I thought to be identical. Evidently I missed something. I had some problems getting the network started on the second machine, and I must have forgotten a name change somewhere. Anyway, after doing lot's of comparisons between the boxes, editing and renaming and re-linking the ifcfg-GigaStorey file, they are both functioning. The problem is that whenever I start or restart the network on box 2, it reports the following error:
Bringing up interface GigaStorey: RTNETLINK answers: File exists Error adding address 192.168.1.6 for eth0. [ OK ] The file ifcfg-GigaStorey is linked in the following directories /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices code....
Like I said, it's not super critical, just annoying. The networking comes up ok, but the error is puzzling. I figure if I learn what this problem is I'll be one step closer to my Linux beanee.
My network name is eth2 it was changed by some reason and now i got these errors... i installed, reinstalled, re re installed, tried to run the asistant but no luck :/
Code:
* Stopping the Firestarter firewall... eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
It's meant to move old files from my Downloads folder into an archive file (later tar them). The directory exists, I've used $PWD and nautilus and ls to make sure it's there, yet for every file it gives
Code: find: `cp /home/chris/Download/foo.bar /home/chris/Downloads/ARCHIVE/2011-08-19': No such file or directory I tried to test it on a different destination, specifically my home folder. IT still gave me the error.IS it a bad syntax within find or something else? I'm running a 32-bit system with 11.04
I use iptables firewall (v1.4.1) installed on FC8. I'm trying to limit the inflow traffic for the port 1723 to certain MAC addresses. To experiment with the mac option, I've written the following iptables rule:
Quote:
iptables -A INPUT -m -mac --mac-source 10:08:08:08:08:10 -j ACCEPT
It didn't work. It gave me this error message:
Quote:
iptables v1.4.1: Couldn't load match `-mac':/usr/local/libexec/xtables/libipt_-mac.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information. Does that mean the mac module wasn't installed/enabled?
I'm installing a small application for BankID. Installation is made through a shell-script, applikation installed in /usr/local/lib. Everything seems to go fine, but when I try to start the application I get error message: Code: /usr/local/lib/personal/personal.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libidn.so.11: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory But libidn.so.11 is there (64-bit system so checking both lib & lib64):
I am trying to install a Sunix 4018T dual parallel port card on a pc with Mandriva Linux 2010.1: Dealer told me that linux has driver for this card already so I inserted it and turned on my pc. Unfortunately when I try to install my Okidata ML320, cups it's not showing any parallel ports. I try to update all the system with last patches and packages :I tested the card on a pc with windows xp, installed my printer and it works perfectly.
when a remove a user from the system using the domain userdel guest the user gets removed but the /home/guest doesn't get removed so i remove it by command rm -rf /home/guest then i recreate the user by giving in the command useradd guest now it gives the error mailbox file already exists what does it mean when it says so though this command creates the user.
I'd like to mount an iso file ,however, it failed as following: ljk@ljk-laptop:~/Test$ modinfo loop ERROR: modinfo: could not find module loop what I can do?
nits@nits-desktop:/mnt/Storage/Tors/Incomp$ btdownloadcurses --check_hashes 1 filename.torrent /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/BitTorrent/Storage.py:4: DeprecationWarning: the sha module is deprecated; use the hashlib module instead from sha import sha
These errors occurred during execution:

Got this error when I tried hash checking, was downloading the file using rtorrent when there was a sudden powercut and my system shutdown abruptly, tried restarting the torrent and kept encountering problems while restarting.
I get this warning when running rkhunter:The file rkhunter.cond foes not exist on the system, but it is present in the rkhunter.dat file. However, the conf file does exist as I just edited it.Any ideas on why this error occurs?[root#] locate rkhunter.conf/etc/rkhunter.conf
Can someone tell me how to correct the "Invalid module format"? I hope that correcting the "Invalid module format" error, I will not have the "Unknown symbol in module" error.
Note: I am using wlan1 for this module as I previously am online with the wlan0 network. The same error occurs if I use ./wlan0up.
I've been unable to boot into x using the real-time kernel from CCRMA at home. I get the error "Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error,0) no drivers available. I'm using the driver from Nvidia. I know that this is not an official Fedora kernel and I should be bothering CCRMA about this, but in the mean time could I edit the entry in grub.conf so that it will use the Nouveau driver for that kernel only? That way I could "dual-boot", and just use the rt kernel when I want to use audio software and don't need 3d graphics.
Not sure but has support and updates for 11.2 come to an end? Every monday morning i make sure i'm upto date with updates etc. This am i get a message saying "repo not available" and having looked online to see if the directory openSUSE_11.2 exists, it doesn't.
At the same time loged in as a std user i regularily offer the command kdesu kwite. the command is accepted without error and the cursur returns on a new line as expected but kwrite doesn't start. I'm guessing that my last update has left me with a broken OS. It doesn't seem very long at all since i installed 11.2!
I'm trying to create new RAM image file to get my server load raid1 module upon start, I was following redhat documentation & it suggested to use the following command mkinited --with=raid1 inited-raid1-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r) However after running this command I'm getting this message No Kernel available for 'inited-2.6.18-128.el5"
I want to create a file in the /root directory and then make sure it exists. The following code keeps telling me that the file doesn't exist even though it does.
Code: #!/bin/bash echo -e "username=someusername passwordsomepassword" | sudo tee /root/.credentials if [ -e /root/.credentials ]; then echo "File exists!"
[Code]...
[Edit] Added second double quotation mark at the end of "somepassword"
I have scenrio where i have to check first whether the files exists or not then count of records should not be equal to zero and file should be of current day not the previous day then only process my next task. There are three files totally.please let me know how to write script to achieve the same.
Is it possible to set up a udev rule that will check if a file exists on a USB drive?
I've got a few ubuntu servers in environments with some very not-techy peoples. Im hoping to get to the point where I can give them a few USB sticks with scripts on them, and if they plus one of these sticks in it will be mounted in, say, /media/special (rather than /media/usb0..7) and then the script would be run. But if a usb drive without special.sh is inserted, it should be mounted to /media/usb0..7 as normal.
I've been googeling for udev rules, and it seems simple enough to specify a mount point based on brand/model/serialnumber/etc... but i havent been able to find anything about checking for the existance of a file.
Tho the more i think about it, the more im starting to think its not going to be that straight forward. Can udev check for a file on a drive before that drive is mounted? Is it going to be a case of mounting every drive to /media/usb0..7 then having a script run that will check for the file, and if its there change the mount point before running special.sh?
I have a directory called /data In this directory I have some files like abcejb.jar,12_ab_ejb.jar, shejb.jar, test I need a shell script like... 1st I want to check if there is any ejb file exists in the directory using some condition If ejb files exists I want to redirect the ejb files list to a file called list. Now I want to copy all the files in the list file to some remote system.
I have a script that runs each day at 6am and looks for files created within the last day and outputs the text to a file which it emailed to me. Im wanting to change it so that it would say something like "phone system backup complete" or "websense back complete" and say fail if its not there.
