Ubuntu :: Delete #SharedObjects Contents?
Oct 25, 2010
Instead of using the Firefox Better Privacy addon or the Macromedia website to manage Flash Cookies (LSO's), I would just like to periodically, delete the ~/.macromedia/Flash_Player/#SharedObjects directory.

Im assuming there is a simple answer for this but I have yet to find it in forums. I have 2 partitions mounted on my ubuntu desktop, one is Windows C: drive labeled "Core" and the other is D: drive labeled "Reserve" but for some reason I have a second Windows folder on my desktop, when I attempted to delete it it began to delete the Windows files as well, one forum said to right click and "remove from desktop" but this option isnt in the menu. How can I just delete the folder?

I have a directory that has a another directory inside it. The top directory is rather redundant since it only contains the one other one. Is there a way to delete the top level directory and have the contents simply "move up a level"?

I am trying to use an old box as backup server. I have tried a couple of possibilities along the lines of:
Quote:
rsync -a --delete --progress --log-file=/home/$USER/info.txt -e ssh /home /etc root@192.168.0.106:/mnt/back
The problem is it does not delete files that has been removed from my local system?
I run the command as root on the local system.
(I realize I should properly not ssh into the server as the server's root but I'm having trouble with the permissions and I want to make sure everything else works before messing around with it)

I just can't stand knowing that there's a slight problem with my PC.I have roughly 12.5 Gigs of files, mostly movies that are multiple clones of a particular movie (which was an entirely different problem altogether) and I CANNOT DELETE THESE THINGS! There has to be a simple way to do it from terminal, problem is, I can't seem to find the trash directory in terminal.

Recently I setup a system for a non-technical user. He is only using Firefox, Pidgin and OpenOffice for about 2 hours a day. I have created a folder "/home/jim/myFiles" where he can save his document files. But Jim has accidentally deleted his myFiles folder on 2 occasions. He had intended to delete a file in that folder. Is there a way to lock the folder so that the user and create/read/write documents in that folder but not delete the folder itself?

I backed up about 19GB of my Web Server today compressed into a .tar.gz. I then split these files into 4300MB chunks (approx 4.2GB). I then used k3b to write 2 parts of the archive these to a Dual Layer DVD. The burn went fine but I cannot seem to mount said DVD. I tried the following;
Code:
matt@matt-u:/media$ sudo mount -t udf /dev/sr0 /media/cd
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error

I have a question - what's the best way to edit the contents of an .iso image ?Yes, I know how to mount it and navigate through files and folders. But it's read-only. Mounting with "rw" option also doesn't help.I've heard about 1) mounting, 2) coping everything to a separate directory 3) editing some files, 4) making a new .iso image

I want to copy the contents of a directory through ssh. The problem I'm having is that I can use the cp -r terminal function, but that would cause the directory itself to also be copied. I just simply want whats inside to be copied to another directory. Because of the way I have my server laid out, I would have to copy the entire directory, then copy each element one by one inside that directory into the specified folder. This is really tedious. So, is there a way I can just copy its contents? I was thinking of zipping it, the unzipping it, but when you extract, it once again just creates a new directory, not the contents inside.
If this is confusing, this is what I'm trying to do:
Directory: ../random/
Currently after scp -r:

I was running 9.10-64, upgraded from 9.04 on a 160GB separate boot drive with a 1TB drive for storage. I had mdadm software RAID on 3 500GB drives. I copied off the contents of the md0 RAID device, formatted from ext3 to ext4, then copied it all back. I operated for several weeks this way with enhanced performance and no issues.note: All drives are on MB SATA-II.I wiped out everything and reloaded the 160GB drive with 10.04-64. I removed dmraid and set up mdadm as before with no immediate problems.
The next day, when I pulled up the contents of the 1TB drive (mapped to /1000), it displayed the contents of the root instead. Curious, I attempted to tunnel down to the /1000 folder from within its own listing of /, and saw no files listed. I proceeded to delete the files in the /1000 folder, whereupon I found that my system became unstable. I must have somehow been deleting files from the root itself.I reloaded again. To check if the SATA connector to the 1TB drive may be somehow suddenly faulty, I reordered the connectors and set up the boot priority in the BIOS to match the new configuration. The next morning, I was once again able to see the contents of / when ls'ing /1000. I carefully checked the entry in fstab, the fdisk -l output, and made sure that the directory wasn't somehow showing as a link.
For the next attempt I decided to take ext4 and mdadm completely out of the equation, hoping it was a bug with some combination of the two under the new kernel or something else which could be corrected by replacing the software RAID with a physical controller at a later date. Instead of RAID, I simply formatted each of the 500's as ext3 and mapped them to /500-1 through /500-3 respectively. However, after a day of normal operation, I am now able to see the contents of / when I ls /500-3. The other 4 drives appear to continue operating normally.I have been unable to pull up a similar post prior to creating this one. Perhaps I don't know how to properly search for this issue. If anyone has seen something similar, please link me to the solution.

So I have a bunch of CDs I have burnt over the past year or two, and only problem is, I would burn them, use it and forget about it. I never bothered labelling it. Now, I want to label them appropriately. Is there any way I can find out the following just looking at the CD contents-
1. Distribution - lucid / karmic / etc
2. Architecture - amd64 or i386
3. Type - server, desktop, alternate etc
I know if I boot into the machine from the CD drive, I can find out, but I prefer not having to do that

I know that you can use ls to list the files in a folder, but is there anyway to list the contents of the other folder? Like, say I have a folder labelled "Records", and inside is 12 folders, one for each month. Is there any way to list the contents of the 12 subfolders without just going into each one with cd and using ls?

I have a large tarball which is bz2 compressed, and I would like to get a md5 sum of the files contained in it, as I have a separate directory on another server containing what I think are the same files. I want to check to see if the tarballs files are the same as the uncompressed files on the remote server. The files are big 10gb+ so I was wondering if there was a quick way without having to uncompress them all and then md5 them.
