I am getting what I am calling data noises through my speakers. I imagine it has something to do with maybe my onboard sound card. But I feel like there should be a way to filter it out. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 but it has been this way since I started using ubuntu many years ago. It always bugged me so i thought i would go ahead and see if there is some kind of fix for it.
yeah first time ever being on ubuntu os. i got 3 going on one pc but only one partition is making static noises coming the speakers and its kinda loud. any ideas why?? its only happening to one partition so im clueless to whats going here...to be more descriptive its like a constant sssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh or same as a radio being off frequency
When I start up my computer and it gets to the login screen I hear these 2 weird noises from my speakers and I do not know where they come from since I disabled the start up sound. Anybody know what this can be? I disabled the start up sound because it did not sound right, it was stuttering. All music listening and playing games (Heroes of Newerth) works like a charm. Only application where I can get the same stuttering effect is when I start Ventrilo with wine (world of warcraft works without any issues)Please let me know if you need any information about my system and I will supply it, I run 10.10 Maverick 64 bit.
I was using my old computer with ubuntu on it a few minutes ago, and when I loaded up firefox... All of a sudden the pac-man music started playing. There wasn't anything else open that could have caused that, and not even any other tabs up... It sounds like something a virus might do, but Linux is extremely resistant to that sort of thing.. Firefox works fine on my windows rig, so what the heck is going on?EDIT: I turned off javascript, and the noises stopped. But what javascript on firefox could be doing that, and why is it only on my linux?
When ever I have sound coming into line in I hear a crackling noise. The noise also ends up coming in through my Mic as well so everyone in Skype gets to hear it as well! If there is no sound coming into the line in then the crackling noise goes away. I have attached a recording from my Mic with sound coming in line in. or not I can't figure out how to attach it. Have a link instead[URL]..
I don't understand what is going on... If I listen music, the sounds quality is just perfect, but if I play quakelive, I start heard some annoying noises such as my headphone wire is damaged. how to remove it? Maybe something wrong with sound drivers? I use ubuntu 10.04 LTS version OS. Sound card is realtek (integrated to motherboard).
I have Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop. When I plug my headphones, they sometimes work, they sometimes don't, but that's not the main problem. When they do work, sound also plays out of the speakers. The only solutions I was able to find were for earlier versions, which don't work for 11.04.
I recently installed Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty on my buddy's laptop. It's working alright, except when we try to plug the external computer speakers into the sound jack in the front, there is no change; it keeps playing through the onboard speakers. My friend and I are getting pretty frustrated because we use those speakers to watch movies with, and the onboard speakers aren't sufficient. If I need to provide any other info, let me know and I'll do so.
Well, the title pretty much sums it up. Whenever i plug in my external speakers, my laptop speakers continue to put out sound, which is good until i turn up the volume and hear rattling.
I am running ubuntu 9.04 64-bit 2.6.28-13 on an MSi GX620.
I'm trying to use the LADSPA SWH Gate plugin to remove soft breath noises from an audio recording, but it's not working very well for me. It'll cut out chunks of the much louder spoken audio, while leaving the much quieter breath noises intact. I mean breath noises that are so quiet, they don't even show up on the wave form. I know you can manually go in and drop silence onto each spot if you want to, but I saw the noise gate method work wonderfully in GarageBand so I'd like to use it here too, but I'm just not getting any results.I'm using both Audacity and Ardour.
My Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 running Fedora 8 continues to play sound out of the laptop speakers when external speakers are plugged in (and no sound out of the external). What can I do to diagnose/fix this? code...
I have a normal install of Ubuntu 10.04 with KDE, gnome, and xfce. Every time i try to do something sound related on my computer, my speakers won't work. I tried headphones, still wouldn't work. The Ubuntu 10.04 documentation didn't help much, and I'm plugging in the speakers correctly.
I've been using Excel from OpenOffice with moderate success for the last year. Now I've just tried to open a new spreadsheet and I'm suddenly getting a highly condensed view. The cells are about 1mm X 4mm. If I expand them by selecting and dragging, then try to copy data from another spreadsheet onto the new one, the data shrinks to the small scale -- unreadable.
Right now I have a 320GB system drive and 3TB data drive. I want to add two more 3TB drives and do a software RAID5 3x3TB. Is that possible without losing the data that is already on the data drive?Just want to make sure before I bought the 2 two drives. Not looking for instructions on how to do it,but if you want to include some that would be great too Just making sure it will work.
We purchased a new database system at work last October, ditching the old system because of a lack of support from the vendor. This is a retail Point of Sale and Backoffice database system. I am not sure what system the new one runs on, but the system we replaced was a Firebird data base. The reason I am posting is because we are now in need of the information contained in the old database which was not completely imported into the new system.
Basically the problem is this: The database in on a Windows XP system and I found a copy of SQL Manager Lite 2008 on the system, which after quite a bit of studying, I figured out how to extract the database into a removable file. I have this file (178MB) on a USB stick in a file called Backoffice.fbd.
My studying suggests to me that I can get into this database with MySQL. I have never used this and have no clue how to do this. All I want to be able to do get into the database and create tab deliminated spreadsheet files for each of the database sections (Customers, Repairs, Sales History, stock files, etc.) Is it possible to do this with Ubuntu and MySQL and if so, can expert suggest one or two things to get me started. While a guided tutorial would be nice because I am not an expert, I am willing to learn on my own if someone could point me in the right direction.
Where apart from ~/.kde4/share/apps/kmail does kmail keep account data, such as login data/names of pop/smtp servers? I wanted to install an entirely clean version of kmail, so I uninstalled/re-installed kmail via YAST. I manually deleted ~/.kde4/share/apps/kmail. After installing kmail I found that the account data of my Yahoo account were still listed in the kmail configuration panel. Shall I delete the Yahoo account within kmail prior to uninstalling the kmail package?
A few months ago I have setup a server with three hard disks. The partition mapping the disks as follows:

I'm trying to connect to the VPN of my employer; after fix various minor issues I reach this point in which the DNS entries and the default gateway of the VPN are overwritten with the values of the eth0 device that appears by default. Therefore the vpn is not useful.
I have an application where I am sending data via serial port from PC1 (Java App) and reading that data in PC2 (C++ App). The problem that I am facing is that my PC2 (C++ App) is not able to read complete data sent by PC1 i.e. from my PC1 I am sending 190 bytes but PC2 is able to read close to 140 bytes though I am trying to read in a loop.Below is code snippet of my C++ AppOpen the connection to serial port
I am using read() in c++ to get data from a serial port. However, if no data is available on the serial port the function blocks until dta arrives.Example code:
I have some data files that should be distributed with my program. Using dist_pkgdata_DATA in Makefile.am, I get these files installed to /usr/local/data/share/package-name. The problem is that data is read-only, and my program needs to modify it. Playing with dist_sharedstate_DATA, dist_localstate_DATA, dist-data_DATA varibles, I got different installation directories, like /usr/local/com, usr/local/var, but data is always read-only.
How can I distribute modifiable data files with my package? I need some common directory for all users, or maybe local data in a user directory.
Installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP laptop. I have installed Ubuntu on 2 of my computers with no problems whatsoever, but this laptop is just a problem. I already had to install the driver for my wireless card, and now I noticed there are no sounds coming from the speakers, but if I plug headphones into the headphone jack, there is sound.
Ok i have these speakers that are really nice, but Ubuntu only allows me to use them every once and a while, like 4/5 days of the week. If i plug the speakers in and turn the volume up i cant hear anything, but if i take the speakers out and plug my Zune into them i can hear the music. How do i fix this?
I fixed Skype to use the Microsoft Lifechat mic/headphones by stopping pulseaudio. All good now but none of the options in Skypes's Options->Sound Devices will get the phone to ring through the speakers. That has been an easy set up on our other machines.
8.04 LTS and Skype 2.1.0.47. Whole reason for this is send SMS in this version of Skype but not previous ... BUT, this version insists on using Pulseaudio and gives no other options in Sound Devices (dumb design idea) and I and a lot of other folk couldn't get Skype happening with Pulse ..
Ubuntu (10.04 - 64 bit) isn't using all internal speakers. Only the right speaker is working, resulting in low volume. If I attach external speakers or headphones, everything is fine. I checked the Alsamixer, but there's nothing to unmute there that has any effect.
[Code]...
The sound settings shows Internal Audio and RV710/730, but if I switch to the latter I have no sound.
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and while everything is working great except the sound. I have an ASUS P5lp-le motherboard that has onboard 5.1 audio, but my speakers are really quiet. I have tried running "alsamixer" in the terminal and everything was turned up all the way. Is there thing else I could try?
