Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Also, Update Manager says, "Your System is up-to date. The package information was last updated 55 days ago" I supposedly updated yesterday, so why does it say 55 days ago?
I upgraded to 10.04 and can't get flash to work. I tried to run the update package and got this message:

I just installed AV Linux to an old Compaq Evo N800v laptop. I did have Ubuntu Studio on this laptop and it worked really good. But there were things I didn't like, so I tested AV Linux and ended up installing it this morning.
I ran the install without a network connection because I read a tutorial that said it was better to just get the operating system installed without any hiccups and after do the updates. So I opened the Synaptic Package Manager and clicked Reload and ended up getting this message:
Could not download all repository indexes

This is the error: Could not download all repository indexes The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct. I see that it is usually a problem with the etc/apt/sources.list file. I tried to fix mine from looking at others but cant solve the problem.

Last week, the little orange triangle that tells me I have updates to install turned up. When clicked, I got the Update Manager and when asking it to check on what's available it tried to download 70 some items, but stalled on number 47. I got a message: "Could not download all repository indexes." The box below contained a list of files, such as: "http:/security . . . etc." At the bottom of the list was the statement: "Some indexes failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead." From there all I can do is back out of the Update Manager. The orange triangle remains, and I get the same result when I click on it.

I am pretty new to Linux, just finishing up my first semester, I just installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my PC and have problems with installing any and all software. Every time I go to applications, add/remove, I get the same error no matter what program I try to install. "could not download repository indexes" then error "can not be installed on your computer type (i386)"

Everyday I get a red caution symbol in my top panel by all the other notifications. Once I follow the directions I get the following error and explanation:Quote:Failed to fetch http://www.geekconnection.org/remast...sys/Sources.gz 404 Not FoundFailed to fetch http://www.geekconnection.org/remast...ntu/Sources.gz 404 Not FoundSome index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.I understand one of the repos is failing to install, but I've never added a repo (except for FireFox 4), and I'm wondering if this repo is important or of good use, if not I'd like to remove it which should be able to be done in the Ubuntu Software Center if I'm correct.

Sometimes, I also get this red triangle with an exclamation point in my toolbar thing that tells me I have repository problems, or something along those lines. I'm assuming they're all related. I've been looking around, and I noticed people having similar errors and just being able to uncheck something in my Software settings, or something like that. In my case, I'm not exactly sure what to uncheck though, don't wanna screw anything up any more! I'm using 10.10, and I believe I'm using Maverick. I'm not sure what that means though. I've only recently started using Linux.
Whenever i go to the update manager and check for updates i get this
Failed to download repository information
Check your Internet connection. i am connected to the Internet and the connection is obviously fine because i am posting this, same thing happens when i go through terminal to i am currently running ubuntu 11.04
I want to download "Inhatch plugin", but on their site there are only an instructions and a repo URL for Ubuntu and Debian, and I'm on Suse (rpm-based). In short: Add, eg., this: deb [URL] inhatch main to your sources.list, and do "apt-get" "update" and "install inhatch-webplugins". [URL] The repository URL is inaccessible from the browser ("Forbidden" HTTP error on [URL] so I can't browse for the file itself and I'll have to use the .deb tools. I'm not familiar with them, besides, the "apt-get" I tried is not made for Suse - I forced a Fedora package, so it most probably isn't working properly. There is a Suse package called "deb", containing "dpkg", etc. If I get the Inhatch .deb file, I intend to try "alien" on it or try disassemble it and put the plugin in place manually. how to get the package file in first place.
