Im fairly sure these are default sources that come with Maverick and would very much like to have these packages.
I am beginner in Ubuntu. I am unable to install any software. For example, whenever I try to use Ubuntu software center to install VLC media player, it shows following notice: Failed to download repository information Check your internet connection
I searched on google about installing software on Ubuntu and tried to use the command I found for installing VLC media player on terminal. First I typed command sudo apt-get update And I get this on my terminal ----- Ign [URL] lucid Release.gpg ..... E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Then I typed the following command to install VLC : sudo apt-get install vlc vlc-plugin-pulse mozilla-plugin-vlc Then I get the following information on terminal: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Couldn't find package vlc
I upgraded my ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 after its release. It was working fine. But today I saw its giving an error while upgrading. I am not very much efficient in ubuntu so cant understand why this error is. It is giving as failed to download repository information. check your internet connection. But my internet is working fine.
When I try to check for updates and also when I try and press "reload" in the Synaptic package manager, I get this error: Failed to fetch [URL] Failed to fetch [URL] Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Sometimes, I also get this red triangle with an exclamation point in my toolbar thing that tells me I have repository problems, or something along those lines. I'm assuming they're all related. I've been looking around, and I noticed people having similar errors and just being able to uncheck something in my Software settings, or something like that. In my case, I'm not exactly sure what to uncheck though, don't wanna screw anything up any more! I'm using 10.10, and I believe I'm using Maverick. I'm not sure what that means though. I've only recently started using Linux.
Whenever i go to the update manager and check for updates i get this
Failed to download repository information
Check your Internet connection. i am connected to the Internet and the connection is obviously fine because i am posting this, same thing happens when i go through terminal to i am currently running ubuntu 11.04
Whenever I go to update I press check and I get "Failed to download repository information Check your Internet connection." Well obviously I don't need to check my internet connection if I'm posting this thread. I am using Google Chrome and it's as fast as can be. When I run
I keep getting a red triangle at the top right corner of my screen that says I need to update my software, but when I run update manager, I get an error window with the title of this post saying the following in its details:
I tried following the instructions in this post http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1787167, but even though I successfully switch servers, I still get the same update manager failure.
It's up in the top "toolbar" of Natty and it has a red exclamation mark inside. It tells me my "update information is outdated" and so, naturally, I clicked it. It opens my "Update Manager" which tells me "there are no updates to install" and "The package information was last updated 11 days ago."
So I click the "check" button and the following pops up in a window: Failed to download repository information Check your Internet connection.
Code: W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found , W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found , E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
My internet connection, contrary to the information provided, is fantastic (I've also tried 2 different locations).
Hi, let me state at the outset that I am a very new Ubuntu user.My computer proficiency is above intermediate, and I have some rudimentary (and most likely outdated) knowledge of *nix.I am using a fresh install of Natty Narwhal as the sole OS on an Acer dual-core AMD64 system. When going to the update manager, it tells me that the last update was 12 days ago. When selecting "Check", I get "Failed to Download Repository Information". The details are below.
I have just installed ubuntu 11.04. Package manager unable to download repo information while in the same network ubuntu 10.04 is working fine . code...
Recently i was about to installing skype, for that i have to check the repostory in the software Source...after that it shows me the message for Reload and then it starts Downloading but at the last it shows me the message "Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. "
The subject line above is the error message I get when Update Manager runs. I also get the following; The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.
....and this; Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine...86/Packages.gz 404 Not Found Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/dists/karm...86/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.45 80] Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/dists/karm...86/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.45 80]
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Also, Update Manager says, "Your System is up-to date. The package information was last updated 55 days ago" I supposedly updated yesterday, so why does it say 55 days ago?
I upgraded to 10.04 and can't get flash to work. I tried to run the update package and got this message:
Failed to fetch [URL].. Unable to find expected entry partner/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?) Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I can't install software without it telling me that its not trusted! When I reload the software sources it gives me this. Could not download all repository indexes. The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

Last week, the little orange triangle that tells me I have updates to install turned up. When clicked, I got the Update Manager and when asking it to check on what's available it tried to download 70 some items, but stalled on number 47. I got a message: "Could not download all repository indexes." The box below contained a list of files, such as: "http:/security . . . etc." At the bottom of the list was the statement: "Some indexes failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead." From there all I can do is back out of the Update Manager. The orange triangle remains, and I get the same result when I click on it.
"Failed to fetch ppa.launchpad.net/user/ppa/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."Are servers down? This is like an official repo no? My package info is 41 days old.
I installed Ubuntu 10.04.3 now. And I need to installing Gnome 3 in this 10.04. I tried to add the ppa and reload the synaptic, but got an error. The ppa is : ppa:ubuntu-desktop/gnome3-builds But am getting error saying: Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

Whenever I get the update notification I end up with this error screen: Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

I was trying to open the Update Manager and this popped up... "Could not initialize the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, Eroblem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/ph.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_i18n _Translation-en, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'"
I just recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop and was attempting to install Wine on it this morning. I went through the proper procedure listed on the site, but once I get back to the Software Center and hit "install" it gives me an error a second later saying "Failed to Download Package Files. Check your Internet connection."
I have an installation problem that I cannot resolve. The problem arises during the installation process, using the Fedora-10-i386-netinst.iso image, burnt onto CD.Immediately after setting up the network card, I am given the error "Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again". Since the installation process is text-based, I do not have the option to edit the repository list, and consequently, have to abort. This is the spec of my machine:
