Something wicked happened resolving 'archive.canonical.com:http' (-5 - No address associated with hostname)Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."I've just started using Ubuntu and loving it, pretty much a beginner. any help regarding the issue would be appreciated. The message aint causing any problems with the working but i still like to have an error free computer.
I have recently installed ubuntu and evrey time I try installing some new application or updating the computer. I get this error: Could not download all repository indexes. The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct. The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/htttp could not be found. The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/htttp could not be found. I have tried searching the matter on google without any avail. I was very excited about using but now all hopes seem down.
My network connection is just fine. It worked flawlessly on my laptop.

The subject line above is the error message I get when Update Manager runs. I also get the following; The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Also, Update Manager says, "Your System is up-to date. The package information was last updated 55 days ago" I supposedly updated yesterday, so why does it say 55 days ago?
I upgraded to 10.04 and can't get flash to work. I tried to run the update package and got this message:
Failed to fetch .. Unable to find expected entry partner/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?) Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I can't install software without it telling me that its not trusted! When I reload the software sources it gives me this. Could not download all repository indexes. The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

I just installed AV Linux to an old Compaq Evo N800v laptop. I did have Ubuntu Studio on this laptop and it worked really good. But there were things I didn't like, so I tested AV Linux and ended up installing it this morning.
I ran the install without a network connection because I read a tutorial that said it was better to just get the operating system installed without any hiccups and after do the updates. So I opened the Synaptic Package Manager and clicked Reload and ended up getting this message:
Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

This is the error: Could not download all repository indexes The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct. I see that it is usually a problem with the etc/apt/sources.list file. I tried to fix mine from looking at others but cant solve the problem.
Last week, the little orange triangle that tells me I have updates to install turned up. When clicked, I got the Update Manager and when asking it to check on what's available it tried to download 70 some items, but stalled on number 47. I got a message: "Could not download all repository indexes." The box below contained a list of files, such as: "http:/security . . . etc." At the bottom of the list was the statement: "Some indexes failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead." From there all I can do is back out of the Update Manager. The orange triangle remains, and I get the same result when I click on it.
"Failed to fetch ppa.launchpad.net/user/ppa/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."Are servers down? This is like an official repo no? My package info is 41 days old.
I installed Ubuntu 10.04.3 now. And I need to installing Gnome 3 in this 10.04. I tried to add the ppa and reload the synaptic, but got an error. The ppa is : ppa:ubuntu-desktop/gnome3-builds But am getting error saying: Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. I have good connectivity to internet. What steps to be taken to install gnome 3 in 10.04.3
Everyday I get a red caution symbol in my top panel by all the other notifications. Once I follow the directions I get the following error and explanation:Quote:Failed to fetch http://www.geekconnection.org/remast...sys/Sources.gz 404 Not FoundFailed to fetch http://www.geekconnection.org/remast...ntu/Sources.gz 404 Not FoundSome index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.I understand one of the repos is failing to install, but I've never added a repo (except for FireFox 4), and I'm wondering if this repo is important or of good use, if not I'd like to remove it which should be able to be done in the Ubuntu Software Center if I'm correct.
Whenever I get the update notification I end up with this error screen: Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

In our apache web server, we have a number of virtual hosts running. I wanted to create an alias to a folder only to a specific virtual host. So what I did is, in the virtual host configuration section of that specific site, I added as below:
..
However, with this configuration,if index.html is not present in the system , I am still able to see directory listing of all files under that folder myfiles. What could be going wrong ? Why "options" directive of is not working once it is placed inside <directory > of <virtualhost>? If I move <directory> in the main httpd.conf (ie , outside virtual host section), then again it works fine. But I don't want this as I don't want other virtual hosts also to be able to access to that directory... In the main httpd.conf, I have something like
