Ubuntu :: Chromium Shockwave Flash Plugin Crashed After Update
Mar 8, 2011
after running an upgrade chromium browser shockwave flash plugin crashed! if you have the same problem i have a workaround. firstly open firefox goto a website that uses flash (not videos) i used bbc iplayer, then right click and click on "settings..." the left most tab shows the "enable hardware acceleration" tickbox. untick it
then close and reopen chromium and go back to a flash site e.g. videos and test it is working. the reason this worked for me is that there is a bug in either googles chromium or the unix/x11 build of shockwave flash or my graphics card drivers. there seems to sevral bug reports regarding this on the net [url]. flash could be a little slower now it doesn't have the hardware accelerating it. so maybe the setting could be re-enabled in the future?

ever since i updated to firefox 3.6.3 on my opensuse 11.0, it has been crashing instantly on loading videos and gmail.
i have done all of the obvious things. run in safe mode, uninstalled and reinstalled including deleting the entire profile, reinstalling the flash player and adobe reader plugins, disabling all extensions (in fact, i have no extensions installed at all now) - nothing works!
i have put a request in to the mozilla forums, but nobody has an answer.
i am able to get firefox to load the videos page only when in safe mode and with the shockwave flash plugin disabled. it still crashes instantly on gmail.
when i go into the yast installer to look for older firefox versions that i might downgrade to, the versions list is in such tiny type that it is unreadable. every other font is fine except that one versions list! it's driving me mad that the one thing i need to see in order to get a working firefox is invisible to me due to some obscure bug.

every here and there i enter a page where a box pops up:Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page . After a number of steps I am at a page by Adobe, and I download what seems to be a generic package (Ubuntu will of course be there). But its instalation has never proved helpful. Still the same pop-up. Are there binaries for Slack or a way to get the sources?

I'm trying to get Shockwave (actual Shockwave, not Flash) working in Firefox 3.6 series on (L)Ubuntu 10.04. (And for that matter I'll also want Authorware. Yes, I need these things.)
[Code]...
The Windows version of Firefox does play Shockwave, but it's ugly as sin, I'd rather not be depending on wine for the web browser, and worst I can't get Java installed in wine - I really want one browser with Flash, Shockwave, Authorware, and Java support (see this thread for the background).I've heard Crossover can do it, but have yet to try this.
how I can get Shockwave working in the Linux version of Firefox? Changing distros is an option, if anyone has success stories from a different distro.

I recently upgrade to Jessie and instead of installing Chrome from the google site I decided it was best to install Chromium from the Debian contrib and/or non-free repositories. After installing I then found that i had to install the pepperflash plugin. I find that viewing flash content ( I wanted to watch the SpaceX launch from the NASA website this morning) is almost impossible. The sound comes through okay, but the video comes through at about one frame per second. Fortunately I had Iceweasel as a backup.
Since Chromium does not support the NPAPI flash plugin, that is used by Iceweasel, are there other options? I can delete Chromium and install Chrome but I have heard there are issues with Chrome and Jessie. Perhaps I should just give up on Chrome/Chromium altogether, even though I think the web page presentation is much better with Chrome.
Things I have tried:
Uninstall and reinstall the pepperflash plugin
Changed flash settings
By the way, I don't have problems with Youtube because I receive HTML5 content from there. Maybe I should contact NASA and get them to broadcast HTML5.

I have been using Ubuntu for quite sometime and did have some problems getting it to work on my 64bit installation. I had it working fine since I fixed some issues I had when I first installed my current system (10.04 64 bit).
I have updated through the Update Manager today, and after restarting I got into ..... and started seeing the above message in place of the ..... video, it happens in around 95% of videos. The same issue is in vimeo but I didnt find a single video that worked there.
The update installed Firefox version 3.6.6 which has the new flash crash detection. I had flash crash on me when I first installed 10.04 but I used the Lahf fix here:[URL]It doesnt seem to crash on any non video sites that use flash like Facebook.

I installed Chromium via a repo generously maintained by Tom "Spot" Callaway. Since it's his repo I thought I'd contact him, but I don't really know how - so I'm brining my issue to the forum to see if anyone has a possible solution.I've been using Tom's Chromium fine for the past couple months. After a "yum update", Flash no longer works in Chromium. It works in Firefox. If I try to play any Flash videos it's just a blank box.

I made the 'mistake' of telling Update Manager that I didn't want to install the Adobe Flash Player Plugin Version 10', when Update Manager offered me the option. Now it's still there, grayed out, I can't install it (what I want to do) or remove it from Update Manager.

In my frustration to get adobe flash working in firefox I deleted the /usr/lib/flash-plugin folder. Now when I try to uninstall "Flash-Plugin" from YAST it fails as it can't find the sub-folder. I also cannot install the latest version of flash player as it says that it is already installed - So I am stuck in a loop.
I am running SUSE 11.2.
Is there a config file of installed programs that I can modify to remove the "Flash-Plugin" entry, or is there another way to get over this problem.

Fedora 11, 32-bit, updated daily manually via yum (console). Today got the Firefox update to 3.5.4. After restarting Firefox, the fist page reads: "You should update Adobe Flash Player right now." The link leads to Adobe site, which offers me Flash Player version 10.0.32.18. All is fine so far, excluding the fact that I already have this player:
[root@pc ~]# rpm -qa | grep flash
flash-plugin-10.0.32.18-release.i386
Just for the record, on "aboutlugins" page Firefox confirms I do have the correct player version:
Shockwave Flash
File name: libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32
Does it mean Firefox does not detect correctly the Flash plugin version? Or am I missing something?

Running graphical software update, fc13. Attached are screenshots, which appear in sequence. The first seems to be asking if I trust the source, Adobe. (The Help for this window says I can go to the adobe website to confirm details of the signing key, which I will do if there is not a simpler fix.) If I respond in affirmative to the first window I get the failure window, second shot, with traceback.

Yesterday I updated firefox following the security mailing to
Code:
mozilla-firefox-3.6.6-x86_64-1_slack13.0.txz
When starting the new firefox I got the message that I should update my flash plugin. I use the slackbuild for flash so I already had the version
Code:
libflashplayer-10.0.45.2.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz
So I tried to open [URL] to see if there are any new versions, but no luck. It seems Adobe has changed the setup and I could only download a libflashplayer without any version number whatsoever... Should I trust this? Should I wait for Robby to update the slackbuild script?

Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 Today, 23.11.2010, the update manager did present two posts with adobe flash plugin updates at the top of the list.
Since I abhor adobe as much as m$, I never installed their flash plugin but did use gnash instead (which works sometimes, and sometimes not...)
So my first question was, why should I update a thing that I do not have and do not want ? Following I did UNcheck the checkbox of these two updates, which in my mind means that Update manager must NOT do these UNchecked updates, isn't it ?
I was terrified to observe that, even UNchecked, the adobe flash plugin has been installed against my will. I would have expected such arrogance from m$, but not from Ubuntu...
Of course, I went to synaptic immediately to uninstall this crap. Knowing how hard it is to get rid of flash under m$, I have some doubts about the fact if synaptic did really uninstall this crap cleanly and completely. I would not be astonished to find at least some remains on my HD one of these days. My current feeling is that nobody on earth can be trusted any more...
1. I would really like to know why these updates were listed in the update manager at all, when the thing to update was never installed before.
2. And I would like to know why they were dictatorially imposed, even though I did UNcheck them.

For some time now I have been unable to update flashplugin. I have been waiting the problem to fix itself, but no.
Here is what happens when I try to update flash:
Code: Select allrob@ace:~$ sudo update-flashplugin-nonfree --status
Flash Player version installed on this system : 11.2.202.457
Flash Player version available on upstream site: 11.2.202.460
flash-mozilla.so - auto mode
link currently points to /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so - priority 50
[Code] ....
The same thing happens on both my Debian Jessie machines..
Any way to force the update? Need to update their flashplugin on Jessie?

I have shockwave flash installed properly under Centos 5.5 running in virtualbox 3.2.12. I had no problems when I was using flash under 5.4 but for some reason can not access any videos or audio. I have confirmed that it is installed. I even tried renistalling it. It does show up as an add-on in Firefox too.
]# rpm -q flash-plugin

My son would like to know why he can't install and use Shockwave flash on this computer which is running Ubuntu 10.10? I didn't have an explanation why it won't work in Linux yet.....Can someone shed light on this for me please? I think he just wants to play a few simple games on the miniclip website that require shockwave He now says he wants windows back and I want to avert thoughts of going back to those dreadful days.. Is there a way to install it using wine? I don't have a need for wine but I'm sure I could figure it out if its been done before..

i run ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, using firefox 3.5.6 (courtesy of ubuntuzilla) as my web browser. i've had a problem with some flash and/or shockwave objects simply refusing to work inside firefox, despite having 64-bit flash player and all necessary plugins/addons/extras etc. installed.
there is no pattern to the problems, other than all of them being flash or shockwave objects that won't play. the majority of videos videos do play, including hd ones. however, this morning i encountered a pair of videos clips that simply would not play. i could load the page they were on, but all i ever saw was a black box, with no audio, where the video should have been.
i also noticed that on some of the videos that do play, the flash player's built-in volume control does nothing. i can slide it up or down or mute it entirely, but the sound from the flash video is unaffected.
i'll post urls of the problem videos later, so others can try them.
meanwhile i was able to watch other videos videos without issue, on another tab, aside from the broken flash player volume control.
i've also had a problem with the [url] player for a radio station, which i believe uses shockwave. i like to listen to atlanta, ga's wsb 750 am radio in the mornings before work, but so far i have to do it on a virtual windows xp machine running firefox 3.5.6, under virtualbox. if i try to open the player in firefox 3.5.6 running in the host os (ubuntu 9.10), i get only a blank popup window. url is [url]; click the "listen live" box at upper left to try it.
both machines, the host ubuntu 9.10 install and the guest windows xp machine, use exactly the same ad-blocking hosts file. i use the noscript addon in the host os install of firefox, but i allow any and all scripts when visiting the radio station's website.
since the streaming radio works on the virtual xp machine, i'm pretty sure my network configuration, hosts file etc. have nothing to do with this.
has anyone else had this problem? the flash content really should be agnostic with respect to the host os and browser, shouldn't it?
i guess it could be some random problem with the 64-bit vs. the 32-bit version of the flash plugin, so i may try instaling 32-bit ubuntu on a virtual machine to find out whether there's a difference.

So, if i want to embed a video stream on my site and use the one that the company provides, it has ugly colors that clash with my website. And, if i do Internet searches for a customizable one that allows color changes, the results i get are to download windows programs. Can you direct me to on on-site code generator or a linux download that generates color-customizable FLV/SWF shockwave flash Players? So that i may use my own Embed GUI with the proper color that matches my website. I cannot seem to find one on my own.

I used Ubuntu for about a year bakc in 2008ish, and then went back to windows due to having to run certain software for university. I have since graduated, and have now been running Ubuntu 10.04 for about 6 months. So far everything has been working fine, this is my first real problem!Yesterday, I ran the update manager and installed all the updates it recommended. Since then, any time I try to view a webpage with flash (eg .....) I get the plugin crashed display where the video should be. If I restart the computer, flash will work for an hour or so and then crash again. It's not just the one site, all sites seem to have the same message.
