Ubuntu :: Changing Displayed Icon In Launcher

May 12, 2011

I created a custom launcher for 2 wine programs on my desktop and dragged them to my launcher to add them. They were both using the default cup of wine icon.The first one kept this icon, the second one changed to the default custom launcher icon for gnome. I have since changed them to the games real icons but they aren't changing in the launcher even after removing and re-adding it to the launcher.So 2 things are happening here, it seems the launcher is unable to use the same icon multiple times, and the launcher is "remembering" the icon's somewhere separatly from what the custom launcher is saying the icon should be.

Ubuntu :: Changing Home Directory Location

Apr 7, 2011

I have a dual-boot win7 and Ubuntu 10.10 and I want Ubuntu to use my windows user folder as home. I edited fstab to give me ownership and mount it to /mnt/Windows at startup but whenever I change the location of home in the Users and Groups it acts like it is changing it but it never does. I close the settings and when I re-open it, it is set back to /home/me.

OpenSUSE Install :: Changing Bootloader Location ?

Aug 6, 2011

Because I had Windows installed first, the bootloader was located in that drives master boot record and the openSUSE drive was slaved to it. Now that Windows is gone and the Linux drive is bigger and faster (although the same Ide (pata) ata rating. There are no sata devices in my system.) I want to reverse the master slave relationship between those two drives and put the bootloader on the openSUSE drive.

At the moment a single instance of openSUSE 11.4 is the only operating system installed on the computer I'm talking about.

What procedure should follow to accomplish that?

Ubuntu :: OpenMotif : Create Network Location Link As Local Filesystem Location?

Apr 26, 2011

I'm working with a program that uses Open Motif to create all of the widgets, including the Open File dialog box (obviously). However, Open Motif being kinda old-timey, 80's vintage, and for the most part now an abandoned project, it is quite clunky. So, actually what I need to do is to open some files located on my work server. I have already successfully connected to the relevant server directories with Samba, and with programs built with GTK+ (such as GIMP) I can open files across the network because I have created a bookmark in Nautilus, and those bookmarks appear in the Open File dialog box created by GTK+. Now, Open Motif is different: it doesn't see network locations, orNautilus shortcuts. When I type "smb://serveripyadayada" in the search folder, it really doesn't like it and complains. So, what do I do? Can I get somehow Open Motif to open a network location? Or can I do a run-around and place a shortcut in the file system that points to the network location?

Ubuntu :: No Taskbar/launcher In 11.04?

Jun 2, 2011

It seems as if I've really done myself in this time. I recently upgraded to 11.04 from 10.10.trouble (not showing titlebars after I had trie to enable the "desktop cube" feature) so I decided the best plan of action was to get rid of Compiz. That turned out to be a mistake. Now I have no launcher or taskbar, and since I'm somewhat, well, inept at this so far I have no idea how to get my desktop back in working order.e managed to install compiz and emerald once again, but I can't get to the startup application editor to make it run automatically. Is there a way to get the default desktop environment handler to kick back in?
