Ubuntu / Apple :: Service Start Automatically On Login?

Sep 27, 2010

I followed the directions in the MacBook7-1 setup thread for lucid to install pommed: [URL]... This works well, I can control brightness, volume and keyboard backlights using the function keys.

However, pommed doesn't start automatically on login. I have to maually start the service. Is their a way to have this service start automatically on login?

Fedora Installation :: Apache Web Server Does Not Start Automatically Unless Login

Feb 20, 2009

I have a problem with running Apache web server. I think my problem is either I can not get httpd to load automatically or it's being blocked from external unless I'm logged in, don't know which. Or, I'm completely off base. Either way, being logged in solves the problem. Now I just need to fix it. This is a brand new server running latest apache and fedora 10 (all fully patched). Loaded from source to all default (non RPM directories - apache is /usr/local/apache2/... )

I modified the existing /etc/init.d/httpd script and had it point to the /usr/local/apache2 areas.I even did a chkconfig --add httpd and show it is on for run levels 2345.The problem is that when I reboot the server httpd does not load because I can not access the website. However, the minute I login to the server as a user (non-root) it automatically loads httpd and the website works. Then, when I logout, everything is inaccessible again. I even tried to put the commands in the /etc/rc.local script (or wherever it is).Same thing happens.I know this is a simple fix. Just don't know what it is. Is it related to SElinux? However, wouldn't SElinux create access problems regardless of being logged in or not? Once I'm logged in, everything automatically fixes itself (either it's a service load or a rights filter fix).

Remember, everything works perfectly as long as I'm logged in to the server (even as a non-root user). Just the act of logging in makes the web server accessible from to the rest of the world. However, when I logout, the web server is inaccessible.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Jailbreak And Unlock Iphone 3gs With No Service?

Jul 25, 2011

I've successfully jailbroken my girlfriend's iPhone 3gs.

The phone had no service. She switched to a cheap local-only carrier which did not do iPhones, so her current phone is a cheap blister pack phone.

Now she wants to put the iPhone on T-Mobile. The T-Mobile guys want it jailbroken and unlocked first. I got it jailbroken by tethering it. Now I need 2 apps on there and I have no service so I can't get them there.

Repeat, this is NOT the NO SERVICE bug that happens when you switch service on an otherwise active phone. The contract has been expired for months, so there is no fix for it.

I have joined my wireless N network, but to no avail.

I have at my disposal a Mac, an Ubuntu box and a Vista box.

I also tried jailbreaking my iphone but its firmware is too new and it won't break. Maybe tomorrow. I thought maybe I could break mine, download some apps, transfer them to some PC and then move them to the GFs phone. That didn't work either.

CentOS 5 :: Restarting A Service Automatically When It Fails?

Jun 25, 2010

So far I have came across three options.

1. Watchdog script
2. Daemontools - using "supervise"
3. Monit - open source monitoring tool

From what I can gather, daemontools is probably the best option. Unfortunately, the documentation on the developers site is very vague and I'm having a hard time getting this to work. I think I have it installed correctly, just don't know how to apply it to the service I want monitored.

how to get daemontools to work. All I want to do it monitor a server on my linux box. When it fails, I want it to be restarted automatically.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Service Network Stop Automatically - Restart In Cron Tab

Jan 23, 2011

# cat /etc/*release*
cat: /etc/lsb-release.d: Is a directory
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5 (Tikanga)
CentOS release 5.5 (Final)

I have noticed that after few days of ideal system it will stop its network interface. To resolve this I have to login to the machine it self and then issue
# service network start
Is this a feature. If this is not a feature then what is this. As an workaround I am thinking of adding service network restart in cron tab for everyday in night when I am not using it.

Ubuntu :: How To Add Service To System Start Up

Feb 13, 2010

My Ubuntu 9.10 Server does not automatically get an ip address at start up and I have to run

Code:
sudo dhclient

every time so I it connects to the network, gets an ip etc. This is fine so long as I am physically present. If I am accessing it remotely using SSH and reboot the system there's no way I can connect back again untill someone runs a sudo dhclient on the machine.

No I am trying to add dhclient to startup automatically. I was hoping to put it in
/etc/rc2.d but to be able to run the script must be present in /etc/init.d. The dhclient command is located in /sbin

Creating a sym link in etc/init.d to point to /sbin/dhclient hasn't worked for me so far. I can't copy the command to /etc/init.d before running

Code:
update-rc.d dhclient default?? How else do I have it run at system start?

Ubuntu Networking :: VPN Service Failed To Start

May 7, 2010

Just completed the upgrade to 10.04 from 8.04, and ironing out the wrinkles. Since the upgrade, I'm not able to establish a VPN connection to my institute (a problem since outgoing mail REQUIRES a VPN connection) The pull down menu shows the connection as an option, but clicking on it brings up a separate window that simply says "The VPN connection CfA failed because the VPN Service failed to start." Never had this issue under Hardy, so not sure what's going on. Under "Configure VPN" the settings look the same as they always did.

Ubuntu :: Auto-login For Hotspot Service?

May 1, 2011

My apartment management recently installed a new system so that I have to log-in every time I want to use the internet (wifi). It's kinda annoying because for some reason firefox doesn't offer to remember my username and password for this site. It's more annoying because when it opens a new window which has to be kept open while I use the internet, and after login redirects me to google.co.th, which I don't ever use.

Is there a script I could create which will login for me and handle this annoyance? It would make my daily life on computers just that little bit nicer.
