Ubuntu / Apple :: MacBook2,1, Internal Microphone Does Not Show-up?
Oct 16, 2010
On my white MacBook2,1 , the Internal Audio Analog Stereo device does work, and, in the "Sound Preferences", it shows up on the Output Tab. The MacBook2,1 has an internal microphone. In the "Sound Preferences", however, no device shows up on the Input Tab where it tells to "Choose a device for sound input", neither can I check or uncheck the Mute checkbox, nor can I slide the volume control bar. In sum, the internal Mic does not yet work. I need the Microphone for Skype etc.
Sound was said to work out-of-the-box already in Karmic Koala, but it didn't. Somewhere, I was then recommended to update to Lucid Lynx, which I did. On the page [URL].. it is, again, promised that the Sound will work out-of-the-box. It still doesn't. What shall I do? Boot Mac OSX, or get the Mic working? Here is what I have done sofar:

I'm making some tests with the internal microphone and I've managed to record sounds but the results have a very low volume. I mean, I have to put the input volume to the max and I still get a pretty bad result. I've checked too the input volume in the alsamixer but no way, can't get better results.

Graphics annoyances. I'm having a few graphics problems, here's a quick screen shot: [URL]... Notice the white and red lines at the top of the screen. They seem to go away when I have another window in use over that one. But as soon as I go back to the effected window, it returns to that weird state. Also notice to the left, the terminal at the top and the trash can at the bottom. There are yellow lines on them. I figure that's not normal as well. I managed to fix the problem by simply closing the Chrome app and restarting it. But I assume the problem will arise again some time.
I also notice that a lot of words on my screen are cluttered with strange lines, especially the letters "r", "a", and "i". Here is a good screenshot: [URL]... Here is one last screenshot of the display bars where I'm uploading the pics to, notice how the output area for the URL to the pic is all jacked up: [URL]... Internal microphone. I have an HP DV7 laptop and I can't get the internal microphone to work.

I have a HP Pavillion dv4 1313dx that has been running Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 wonderfully, but I am getting nothing out of the microphone.
I am a VERY beginning user (All I really know how to do in terminal is copy/paste, cd, ls, and, chown) and if I can fix this easily, I'd love it.
I already know to check the sound preferences, and nothing is picked up on the microphone, but I think it's there.

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and everything went smooth. I was originally using Ubuntu 10.04 version installed via Wubu and decided it was time to make a true install of Ubuntu and decided to use 10.10.
I installed Skype and tried to have a phone convo, but the Microphone wasn't working. I tried to use yfrog.com to record a video from my webcam and the video worked fine, but no audio. I also tried the pre-installed sound recorder to record my voice but that also failed.

I am really struggling to get my the internal microphone on my iMac to function. I was able to get the sound working by installing ALSA Mixer and appending the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file with [options snd-hda-intel model="imac24"]. Input is not muted. That file is attached.
My gnome-volume-control recognizes an 'Internal Audio Analog Stereo' device, but it picks up no sound. Here's the chip information: Realtek ALC889A.

I just installed ubuntu 10.10 about 10 days ago, an experience that has been both amazing because its really hard for me to go back to windows already, and frustrating because I'm having a little issue: my internal microphone is not working.here is some relevant info:I had alsa 1.0.23 and decided to upgrade thinking it would solve my problems so I ran the script to install 1.0.24, and for a day or two I lost my sound, without getting back my mic, and just like that the sound came back.I read a lot of posts out there, and ,ade sure I unmuted my mic in alsa soundmixer and pulseaudio.
I ran this:
sudo aplay -l
result:
[code]....

Recently purchased a Lenovo B40-70 Dec 15 Make and isntalled Debian Jessie as the only operating system. Everything seems to work fine except internal microphone.
I have entries under ports of pavucontrol
- Internal Microphone
- Microphone (unplugged)
I changed amplification levels of left and right channels (as some suggested having right and left at same level cancel each other thus producing no audio). I've added entries such as Code: Select alloptions snd-hda-intel model=laptop to non existing alsa-base.conf in /etc/modprobe.d/. - No effect
Haven't seen Lenovo internal microphone problems offlate in forums or QA Boards, so asking it here again.
Also, I'm planning to buy a USB microphone : [URL].....
Will this work out of the box to make skype calls ?

My laptop's internal microphone doesn't work. I ran alsa-info.sh to collect data about my configuration.
Code:
Since the full info dump was a little bit too big to post here, I put the file in its entirety on Pastebin. I also noticed that KMix doesn't display any inputs/outputs...

I am using UNR 9.10
Sound recording from build-in mic was fine in skype and cheese after i installed UNR in my Acer Aspire One 110L in early December last year.
But somehow, i just realized that my sound recording was not functioning when i use skype this morning.
(i don't know since when this problem occur as i never use skype and cheese in past few weeks and i did update a few time from synaptic and install ubuntu-boot kernel)
just now i remove ubuntu-boot and reinstall the 2.6.31-17-generic kernel and run
sudo dpkg-reconfigure pulseaudio
but skype and cheese still does not record from build in microphone but only record from external microphone.
One weird thing is Sound recorder do record from both the build-in mic and external mic.
i tried "parec -r test.wav" and "parec -p test.wav" and it also record from both mic.
Anyone know how to configure my netbook so that the internal mic work on skype?

I have a Sony Vaio VPCZ128. It has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M GPU with CUDA Technology (SPEED MODE) and Intel HD Graphics (STAMINA MODE) (switchable). The Processor is an Intel Core i7-620M with 2.66 GHz and the Chipset from Intel HM57 Express chipset.
Finally I successfully installed Ubuntu 10.10 (mainly following the advice on [URL] and using his kernel). Every thing is working fine including sound (still a few minor problems with backlight and Fn F5/F6). But I still desperately try to get the internal microphone running.

I've got a handy new Lenovo G560 running with OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit. After a normal out-of-the-box installation the laptop speakers failed to mute when I plugged in headphones and I was only able to regulate the sound for both the speakers and the headphones simultaneously. Then I installed a whole lot of ALSA stuff and my sound devices were recognized as "PulseAudio server (local)". Speakers muted when I plugged in headphones - a big yay.
Now, though, my microphone doesn't work any more. It worked before, I'd talked on Skype with it, but upon trying to make a call with Skype today I noticed that it didn't work any more. Sound's turned up in KMix, so everything should be okay - does anybody know how to get my microphone working again?

Just bought a laptop Packard Bell Easynote TJ61 with an internal sound card Conexant CX20561 (Hermosa) and successfully installed Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit. Only problem was that the microphone (internal and external) was not working in all applications (soundrecorder, audacity, skype etc). Output audio (eg- Rythmbox) worked fine with ALSA and PulseAudio.
Tried a LOT of stuff, but the decisive move was to add: options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=laptop to the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and reboot.

As described here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookAir2-1/Karmic) I've got Ubuntu 9.10 running on my Macbook Air 2,1 but the only things that don't work are the speaker and the built-in microphone. I can get sound using the line out though. I am mainly looking for a way to get my microphone working (I can live with sound only via line-out).

Does anyone know how i would be able to activate the internal sub-woofer on a Mac. I have sound, but no bass response. I'm trying to achieve the same sound quality as when I'm in OSX. The iMAC's sound card is built on top of the Realtek ALC885 chipset driven by the Intel ICH8 HD Audio controller.

I've got a final revision of the G4 Mac mini, the 1.5GHz model, dual booting 10.04 LTS and OS X. One of the issues I've had is that the internal speaker doesn't work under Linux, or so it's been reported on various post and sites. It turns out it's a simple matter of flipping some ALSA control options. With an ALSA mixer you must enable both the Speaker and the Headphone to get audio to play over the internal speaker. It will still play over the external headphones/speakers if they are still plugged in. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the ALSA, OSS, PCM or snd_powermac drivers or just something setup wonky in the configs. I've used both GNOME ALSA Mixer GUI and the alsamixer command line tool to do this. The alsamixer tool will mostly work in an X-term, as the F-keys don't pass though. It is fully functional on a console login. I also noticed that audio plays back per-user. When I switch from X to a console he sound is cut off, and when I get logged in as the same user the audio comes right back in.

I am running OSX Tiger (10.4.11) here on my trusty old G4 MDD with a "giga" 1.4gig CPU accelerator and doing quite well with it actually.I have discovered Gimp and Inkscape and love the open source concept.I registered only a few days ago, and have been lurking around to see if I can get a look at Ubuntu in action.Would it be possible to install some version of Ubuntu on a partition of one of my internal hard drives and be able to boot it, using the option key at power-up time?I guess this would be called a "dual-boot" situation. If so, can someone provide a link as to what to download.

I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on my G4 mirror tower. I have two DVD burners in my G4. When I go to open the DVD tray by pressing the eject key on my Apple keyboard, the tray opens and closes. It doesn't stay open. When I insert a CD or DVD, it doesn't show up on my computer. i have to restart my computer for it to show up in the Computer window. Also, when i eject a CD or DVD, I still see the contents of it on my computer even though the disk has been ejected. I pressed reload under the view menu and it still displays the contents.

I'm trying to make some pages. For this I try to host them locally. However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...

This morning I bought an Apple wireless keyboard and I got it connected through Blueman. It works like a charm, but I have on problem;
When I log out I can log back in by typing in my password. However, when I restart the computer it seems that bluetooth is not loaded yet and I cannot enter my password. So I have to log in using my wired keyboard, and then disconnect & re-connect to my wireless keyboard using blueman before I am able to use the wireless keyboard.
Is there any way that I can already auto-load bluetooth and connect to my keyboard before I log in?
