Ubuntu :: Allowing Middle Mouse Button Click To Scroll?
May 11, 2010I want to be able to auto scroll by clicking my middle mouse button. In Firefox you can do this in the about:config easily, but with Google Chrome, I don't know what to do.
There is no Chrome option to allow this, so I guess I'd have to configure some stuff. Does anyone know how to do this? I really prefer Chrome over Firefox, and would like to go back to it, but can't without auto scroll.

Jul 4, 2010Until yesterday, I used the scroll key, middle click, to open/close tabs at Firfox and chrome, today for some reason is not working any more.
I can roll pages up and down, but at Firefox and chrome i cant open/close the tabs with scroll/middle click.
I checked online and the only fix I found was the safe mode solution, which I don't know how to do this on Ubuntu.
I reinstall Firefox and chrome but same thing happens.
I think its something at about:config. I mess around with it, tried all combination, seems nothing happened there for me, no reaction at any changes.
Kinda noob at Linux so if you could explain any solution like talking to 5yo kid would be appreciated.
Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox fully updated.

But it s random dont know whats wrong with sometimes it s scrolling so fast and thats killing me u know it s really so hard to use it when browse something on web-pages. Weird part is how it s working ok when i restart OS.

May 27, 2010I'm working with Ubuntu 10.04 x64 + Asus 1201N + Media-Tech MD1083 RELOADED bluetooth mouse. Gnome Bluetooth Applet has setup mouse perfectly except scrolling. Even back&forward buttons seem to work fine but the scroll wheel does not work at all.
In "xev" I can see that scrolling does not produce any events.

Jun 3, 2011The new scroll tab that 11.04 has appears when you hover over the orange area on the scroll bar. The scrolling arrows are gone.Well this scrolling tab often vanishes before I can click on it to scroll down. Is there a way to revert to the old style, like the scrolling mechanism on these forums? It is nice to have the option of the arrows on top and bottom, along with the scroll tab thing.

May 7, 2011I have a recent installation of openSUSE 11.4_64bit with KDE as desktop environment and like in all other linux distros my mouse middle button has a problem when clicked and dragged. The effect that it does when I click in the scroll button and move up and down is the same as when I rotate the button and it does nothing when I move to the side. Usually in programs like google earth (just an example) this is a very useful function as is used to set direction to navigate and angle and then this setting just does zoom when moved up/down and nothing else. It is also very annoying that every time that I click the middle button in a browser it goes back to the previous search in the default browser search engine. I already tried some setting in yast but no difference and forum search didn't retrieved a lot of info.

Mar 24, 2010I have Fedora 11 installed on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop, and have been using the installation for many months. Just this past couple of days, the 'right-click' on the mouse (whether using the trackpad mouse on the latop or an external mouse) has stopped working, but not completely. I can still right-click in firefox, on the bar at the top of screen, in a terminal window, etc. However, right-click is not working on the desktop, that is I can not right-click on a folder or a file. Nothing happens. If I right-click on the trash-can, nothing. So I know the mouse buttons are fine as right-click does work in firefox.

Mar 13, 2010About a week ago I installed some updates. What they were I don't remember. After I did that my mouse started acting up. Now about half the time when I single click it registers as a double click. Also when I click and drag to select text anywhere it'll randomly do another click screwing up that process.
So far I think the problem is when I press the left mouse button it registers the left click and then when I release, it randomly registers another left click.
The mouse itself works fine if I take it to another PC that's using windows.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 64bit

Apr 13, 2011when i click my mouse on something, it sometimes registers as two clicks. it doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough to be annoying. for example, when i click a videos video to pause it, it often opens into fullscreen (which you normally click twice to do). also, in the url bar of chromium, i can't select the entire url by clicking. i now need to use ctrl+a. that's also because when i try to select the url, the highlight randomly disappears.
if i have multiple windows open, my click on the first "x" of the top-most window also closes the next window. i'm on linux mint 10. it's not really important, but it drives me crazy sometimes when my mouse doesn't work the way i want it to.

If I normally click the Trash icon either in Kmail or in Evolution more than one mail gets deleted in a sequential order! I have to press the click button extremely light to avoid this problem. I have confirmed this problem is not only with the Email clients but even with most other normal applications too. I have changed my mouse twice but the problem persists. Both were USB mice. However in one java application (Matlab), the horizontal scrolling is interpreted as a right click. In a similar way, when I touch the upper right corner of the touchpad, it's interpreted as a middle mouse button click.

Jun 17, 2011I recently purchased a Wacom Bamboo Pen Only (CTL-460). It's a great device and in Fedora 15 (x86_64) it worked out-of-the-box like a charm!
I don't miss the rubber or the extra keys on the tablet. But I'm having quite some trouble, using the pen as a mouse replacement in all day use. The following is with respect to usage outside GIMP and Inkscape (i.e. Firefox, Nautilus etc). What I would really like to have, is:
+ scrolling by pressing the "first button" and simply _moving_ the pen. Just like with my Thinkpad-Trackpoint: Here I press the middle key and can then scroll just by controlling the Trackpoint. Would already be cool, if I could scroll by pressing the "first button" and touching the tablet. A short tap while pressing the "first button" should still be a "middle click"!

I had hoped that Ubuntu would detect my different (new) hardware and configure it for me, but it did not. Googling leads me to xinput, but I can't figure out what to do with that and it indicates it is for 'on the fly' configuration. I want it to be permanently configured. Is there some way to invoke the installation tool again to reinstall the mouse?

The only thing that has changed is that I have used a different usb port for my mouse now, and I have installed a copy of windows 7 on my second HD. However, after all this, my mouse scroll speed on Ubuntu is unbearably too fast. Its almost half a page for every one "click" of the mouse scroll wheel.
