Ubuntu :: 10.04 (64 Bit) On Lenovo T510 Is Freezing
Apr 14, 2010
i'm nix old timer but fairly new to running ubuntu on a laptop (although i've introduced plenty of noobs to ubuntu, because for most people it seems like a better alternative to windoze.).i've got 64-bit 10.04 running mostly well on a lenovo T510, but it is freezing and requiring a hard-reset every few days. certainly a big improvement over 9.10, which froze within minutes of enabling compiz.i'm just wondering if this has been officially reported yet?i kinda wish it actually crashed, so i could get a crash-dump, but it's just freezing.

After I upgrade fedora from 14 to 15 on thinkpad T510, it takes a long long time to boot up@~~~ .I look at the boot up prompt, it just stuck at the network service part.... for about 4 minutes!!!I followed thread url.
After I did
# echo "options iwlagn 11n_disable=1" >/etc/modprobe.d/Intel-80211n.conf
# reboot
I am able to use my wireless now, but when fedora15 is boot up, it does not auto connect for me, I need to connect the wireless myself.
Here is what I find. During bootup, it stuck at Network service part for around
[fanw@f14 ~]$ systemctl list-units --failed
UNIT LOAD ACTIVE SUB JOB DESCRIPTION
network.service loaded failed failed LSB: Bring up/down networking
sssd.service loaded failed failed System Security Services Daem
LOAD = Reflects whether the unit definition was properly loaded.
ACTIVE = The high-level unit activation state, i.e. generalization of SUB.

I loaded Fedora 10 onto my Lenovo T60 last week. everyday i boot it up and it works fine for a few minutes, then freezes. to the point of powering off. my mouse still works but nothing else. i power back up and it generally stays up after that.
Before i had Fedora i was useing PCLinux 2009 and it worked just fine. i get a kernel error alert every once in a while. i finally submitted it to Fedora to be reported. also a flash plugin says it is needed at times but most media plays.
Is there something i'm missing here? like i need to add an additional update? i already updated/installed most Fedora 10 updates.

Got a new Lenovo T500, slapped 9.10 on it. Set of programmes is exactly as on my previous IBM T42, but every so often I get a random crash. No errors, just a complete freeze with a "underscore" cursor in the top-left of the screen.I think / suspect it may have something to do with Transmission running, or perhaps the recent kernel update to 2.6.31-17.Anyone else had anything similar? Maybe on a T400 or R60 / R61 / T60 / T61?

Does everything work out of box (i might be dreaming...), but that'd be awesome and I might just buy an SL510 just for that reason. Im talking everything, ports, power/hibernate/etc, sound (esp), etc
Also, how well would Ubuntu AND Compiz run on a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD video card and Intel Core 2 Duo processor P7570 (2.26GHz, 1066MHz, 3MBL2, 25W)?

We've just bought a new Lenovo ThinkPad T510 in the UK, which includes the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 3G broadband chip on a mini PCI card, attached to a WWAN antenna (around the screen?).
I've done a lot of searching, and was not able to find a way to get this chip to work in Ubuntu 9.10. Can anyone point me in the right direction or provide some help here?

I'm having trouble installing Fedora 13 (64 bit) onto my new laptop (Thinkpad T510). I've repeatedly tried the following three methods:
1) LiveCD I can boot into the LiveCD okay, and all hardware is detected. Double clicking on "install to hard disk" makes the disc spin a bit, but then it stops and nothing happens. At the same time the "application loading" cursor is displayed for a couple of seconds, then goes back to normal. Otherwise it acts as if I never clicked on the icon.
2) DVD The installation process goes as normal until it has finished formatting the hard disk. It then says an unhandled exception occurred, but gives no other info in the "details" section (it's blank). Pressing CTRL+ALT+F3 actually shows a description of the exception:
Code:
DBNoSpaceError: (28, 'No space left on device -- /tmp/storage.state: unable to flush page: 5')
Pressing CTRL+ALT+F4 shows a constant stream of error messages starting with "ERR kernel:" which are scrolling too fast to read.
3) BFO (boot.fedoraproject.org)
[code]...
Pressing CTRL+ALT+F4 shows a constant stream of error messages starting with "ERR kernel:" which are scrolling too fast to read.
I've used methods 2 and 3 to install Fedora on two other machines (with the same installation media as I'm using now) within the last week. The laptop is brand new and seems to run Windows okay (as well as Fedora from the LiveCD). I've tried resetting the BIOS to the defaults but that didn't help.

I just received my laptop this week and have been tweaking my laptop to acquire more stability. I just installed the NVIDIA proprietary drivers for the NVS 3100M chipset and I have a residual windows that wont disappear even after reboot. Even after reinstalling the NVIDIA driver it stays. Is there some way to flush the framebuffer?

I recently had a problem develop with my slightly more than a year old Lenovo S10 Idea book, that the only way to fix it was to do a hard drive wipe and install. Previously it was running windows, and before I decided to install ubuntu 9.10 from a cd, the wifi was working. Now I cannot get it to work, I've downloaded drivers from the disc. My means of connecting to the internet is with usually the wifi automatically detecting the signal source and then entering passwords as needed etc. How can I get it to do this again?

I'm having a bit of trouble with my Lenovo thinkpad. Usually, on a fresh install, when I tell my computer to suspend (either by Fn-F4 or selecting it from the menu) it suspends itself. From time to time, however, the computer will lose the ability to suspend and will simply darken its screen and flash the little moon crescent indefinitely, upon which I have to hold down the power button to shut it off.

I have a Lenovo S10-3. There is a known issue with this laptop booting Ubuntu 10.10 and it is indicated that this problem will be fixed at release? What does this mean?
Lenovo S10-3 systems don't boot. Temporary workaround: add "intel_idle.max_cstate=0" as a kernel paremeter at boot (634702). A fix already exists that will be available only at release time (647071).
I am hoping to run 10.10 on this Lenovo!

I am attempting to install Ubuntu Netbook 10.10 within Windows 7. The installation process using WUBI worked as expected. However, after rebooting to finish the installation process, I am stuck at:
Completing the Ubuntu installation.
For more installation boot options, press 'ESC' now...

I'm definitely puzzled on why I'm stuck on this screen. Also attempting to boot from USB will be stuck without an additional command line being inserted. I have come across threads relating to boot issues, but I have found no solutions to this. I'm rather annoyed that this sort of bug has not yet been fixed. Earlier this year I installed an earlier version of Ubuntu Netbook, which was most likely version 9. So I have no idea why 10.10 suddenly will not install on my machine.

I've blacklisted acer-wmi as that was the fix previously, but that has no effect.
When I do an rfkill list it tells me brcmwl-0 is hard blocked, regardless of where the hard switch is. The hard switch is working fine for the bluetooth..

I have a problem that Ubuntu 10.10 won't run on my Lenovo Ideapad laptop. I have managed to install it over ethernet a few weeks ago an it worked fine, but whenever I try to install it from a cd, installation completes successfully, but the Ubuntu won't start. A black screen with a lot of text on it and then everything freeze.
I have tried it without installing and it worked (live cd). I have also tried to install it on my desktop machine and it worked fine.
On my laptop, I already have a Windows 7 (64 bit) on another partition.
Did anyone have a similar problem?

I have been using Ubuntu at my home laptop (Dell) have had no problem. However, recently I installed 11.04 in my office laptop - Lenovo B450, but 'm unable to connect thru wireless.
It is simply not detecting the wireless. I have a dual boot with Windows 7. Windows 7 detects wireless (surprisingly).
I have tried configuring the network connection in all possible way (manual / auto).

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Lenovo T500. The wireless interface information is listed at the bottom of this message.I would like to connect to my Airport Extreme wireless router which is password protected. The bottom of the router lists three MAC addresses with different symbols next to them. I assume the symbols mean different types of connections (e.g., firewire, ethernet cable, etc).
The network icon on the upper right corner of the screen indicates that wireless is enabled. However, I don't get a wireless connection. I checked that the switch on the front of the laptop is "on" for wireless.

I just installed Netbook Remix 10.04 on my Lenovo S10 netbook and wireless is not working. I looked on google for some answers and saw that the Broadcom STA driver may be missing so when I tried to install it through Synaptic Package Manager it said that it was already installed. When I click on the wireless icon, it says under wireless that the device is not ready and I can't connect to any wireless networks, even if the SSID is not hidden. I am confused as I already have the driver and all the system updates but it still won't work.

I'm experiencing an annoying issue since I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.4: when I try to put my Laptop to sleep, the control sign for suspension starts blinking and that's it: the system hangs and I've got to kill it with pressing the power button. Resuming doesn't work either, same symptoms.

Finally got my Lenovo X201 up and running by combining a couple of different workarounds suggested for the graphics driver problem that is plaguing so many. This works on my X201 3249CTO, running BIOS version 1.17, with Ubuntu 10.04.1 (kernel version 2.6.32-24). I have tested it to differing degrees with all four relevant installers (32- and 64-bit, desktop and alternate).
STEP 1. Add "xforcevesa i915.modeset=0" at install. When you first start the desktop installer, you should see "ISOLINUX..." in the upper lefthand corner of the screen, followed by a couple of white logos at the bottom of an otherwise blank screen. As soon as you see these logos, press the space bar to get the advanced install menu. If you are using the alternate installer, you will get the install menu automatically.
--Make sure "Install Ubuntu" is highlighted. Press F6. You should see the install command line near the bottom of the screen, plus a popup menu with additional options. Pres Esc to close the popup menu. A cursor should appear at the end of the install command line.

Suspend works about 50% of the time on my T400. The other 50% of the time, the screen goes blank (light stays on), there is a blinking cursor in the top left, and the "moon" light blinks forever.
I've got the latest ATI (3470?) video driver installed. I've seen a few posts about this but no clear solution. Anyone here have this problem and (more importantly) been able to fix it?

I installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition on my Lenovo IdeaPad S10 yesterday (I was using Window XP before that) and since then I am struggling to connect to the internet. I think the wireless network device is on because Bluetooth is on and there is a reassuring blue light near the wireless symbol. But the network managers says "device not ready" and don't find any wi-fi spot.I've read posts on the subject and followed the instructions from the official documentation.
