Software :: Simply Load Images For Site - Have Button Somewhere?

In Iceweasel (Debian's name for Firefox) within the Preferences you can select "Load images automatically". I have this unchecked, because I use dial-up and prefer not to have to waste time with images. However, for some sites it's sometimes useful to load the images. So, I'm wondering if there is a way to simply load the images for a site that is easier than what I currently do (which is: going to Edit-Preferences-Content, rechecking "Load images automatically" then pressing Reload). In short, is there a way to have a button somewhere that I can press that will simply load the images for the current site while I can still have the "Load images automatically" preference box unchecked?

Grub installed from 9 or 10 ubuntu simply won't load Windows.Ubuntu and GRUB on IDE hdd, Windows on SATA HDD.Installed all default options, just clicked thru install and when attempting to boot Windows XP screen is blank with a blinking cursor in the top corner.Same thing happened earlier when I ran Fedora 11 then 12.Different version of same result.Can't Canonic work with Grub developers to at least make a workable configuration r it's default setup?Searched the web, in a 1000 places same solution is offered: adding a few lines to menu.lst.1) the lines are already there2) this is for the old version of grub.Does grub actually work for anyone out there? Or is it only supposed to work in weird configurations?

I'm new to the linux world and its been quit sometime since i've done any programming. However, I'm writing a program which simply calculates the load average of a process. In doing this I need to use the uptime command for linux in a java program. I've done a little bit of searching on the net and it mentions this is possiable by using java runtime command. Unfortunatly though I have yet to find a working example of this. I've tried just simply reading the /proc/uptime file but I have no clue how to format the 2 numbers in seconds to make it the same as if you just typed in uptime in the linux command prompt.

How do you instruct wget to recursively crawl a website and only download certain types of images? I tried using this to crawl a site and only download Jpeg images:
wget --no-parent --wait=10 --limit-rate=100K --recursive --accept=jpg,jpeg --no-directories http://somedomain/images/page1.html
However, even though page1.html contains hundreds of links to subpages, which themselves have direct links to images, wget reports things like "Removing subpage13.html since it should be rejected", and never downloads any images, since none are directly linked to from the starting page.I'm assuming this is because my --accept is being used to both direct the crawl and filter content to download, whereas I want it used only to direct the download of content. How can I make wget crawl all links, but only download files with certain extensions like *.jpeg?
EDIT: Also, some pages are dynamic, and are generated via a CGI script (e.g. img.cgi?fo9s0f989wefw90e). Even if I add cgi to my accept list (e.g. --accept=jpg,jpeg,html,cgi) these still always get rejected. Is there a way around this?

I'm having problems with BURG. I installed it and it's working but he only show text. I'm using "ubuntu" theme. If I run "sudo burg-emu", it look fine but then in boot, not. It's running in graphical mode because if I press 'f8' it changes to text-mode. I have tried to change resolution without results.

If a site reaches a point where 1 machine simply isn't enough to handle it, what exactly is done? I've heard of "round robin DNS load balancing", but that's obviously not going to work if the site has CGI scripts/a substantial backend of any kind as that data will have to be copied over to every server, and I'd guess that that's not feasible. If the site uses a MYSQL server, and a second web server to take over the extra traffic from the first is put up (how would traffic be redirected to it?), when it makes a database query, it still has to connect to the 1st server, so, we're not really solving the problem at all, it remains just the same.
So - how is it done, for large, high traffic sites? (possibly like LQ itself?)

Ever since switching to openSUSE 11.1, I have been having problems with certain websites (using the version of Firefox that came with openSUSE 11.1). Some website's CSS code won't load until repeated reloads - for example, wachovia.com. I'll visit the website and it will be all distorted because the stylesheets did not load, and I will have to refresh a number of times before it becomes usable. Other website's images won't load until multiple refreshes, like facebook.
Is this an openSUSE issue? An openSUSE interaction with Firefox issue? I've never had this problem on XP or Ubuntu.

I've been on a quest to enable full routing through my openvpn tunnel between my office and the colo. Masquerading will work, however it will throw off anything key based and makes a lot of things just more difficult and vague in general. Is there an easy way to do this via iptables? I have three locations with a central office connected to two remote locations. At the central office I run on a cisco asa 5505 two site to site vpns. The remote end of the first site is a checkpoint firewall , and the remote end of the second site is racoon on debian. Both sites are up and working. However, where at the first site traffic goes both ways, at the second site it only works from the central office to the remote office.
For example, I can ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the first remote site (through checkpoint firewall,) then ssh back from that host at the remote office to any host in the central office. In contrast, after I ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the second remote office (through racoon), I cannot see the central office hosts (ping the ip address of a central office host, ssh, etc. all fail.) The vpn settings at the central office (the cisco asa 5505) are identical. So it seems to me that some routing magic is missing on the host running racoon at the second remote office. Where would such setting reside? racoon config files? iptables?

I am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).
Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.
My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.

I know that ImageMagick's convert program can be used as follows to convert a collection of images -- say, in PNG format -- to a PDF file:
convert *png output.pdf
The problem with this is that each image is then stretched to fit on one page, whereas I would like to keep the original dimensions of the images and put as many as possible on one page in the PDF file before moving on to another page.

I am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others.And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.
Or am a missing something here? Does this exist?It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.

In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

So I have a intel wifi link 5100 , the drivers should work BUT iwconfig doesn't show my card ..
However doing a ' sudo lshw -C network ' command , it DOES show my wireless card is recognised but not enabled and here is where the problems start ..
I have a touch button on my laptop to enable/dissable it And when I touch it in Ubuntu it doesn't light up like in W7

Lately, I have found that I have to go back to Vista (yes, old Vista no one loves) to burn an iso file on to a CD-RW. Brasero simply don't even see the CD-RW to even blank it, let alone burn the new iso file. I am using Ubuntu 10.04. As I have Debian 6 (gnome and KDE) I tried the same CD-RW, but neither Brasero, nor KDE's K3B 'saw' the CD-RW.But, the in that Vista, the CD/ISO burning software 'saw' the CD-RW without fail. Btw, this same problem happens with Unetbootin. Linux Unetbootin works worse than the Vista Unetbootin!Now, I have to use Vista to burn CD/DVD/Isos.Is there a some special problem with Linux burning software? i'm having hard times trying to get rtorrent working on two CentOS boxes (one is 5.2 and the other 5.3, both x86_64)
i'm using rtorrent RPMs provided from rpmforge
they install fine, starts fine ... but there's simply absolutely no traffic at all !!! I'm sure ISPs are not blocking torrent (they can be shapping, but blocking i'm pretty sure they arent). And when i say there's no traffic, i mean rtorrent cant even download the torrent file when i inform the [URL] from inside rtorrent. It stays there on 0% and there's no download.
if i download the file from the console, with wget for example, i can download it successfully.
i have already tcpdumped the machine and i can confirm rtorrent is not even generating any kind of traffic. NOTHING.
do anyone got rtorrent from rpmforge working fine on CentOS 5.2 and 5.3 x86_64 boxes ?
it should be simply .... at least it was on Fedora 8 and 9 that i used before start using CentOS ...
