View 5 Replies View RelatedWe've been using a Wiki server at the office for years. It was originally configured to use MySQL and finally after 8+ years we're
moving the Wiki to a new platform of hardware. My question is the Wiki software (MediaWiki) is the only thing still tied to and using MySQL which we want to decommission but we've been using it for years so I'm worried we will lose the data. I've done some Google'ing to find out how can I change the MySQL database dump and successfully export it into my new PostgreSQL database however I don't know how practical or recommended this process is. I found sites like the following:

I don't mean the exact link above but just in general taking a database from MySQL and successfully migrating it for PostgreSQL use? From what I can see in the MySQL database, there appears to be 43 tables with lots of column data and who knows what else:
Code:
mysql> show tables;

Tables_in_wiki

dp_archive
dp_category
dp_categorylinks

Relational databases usually have their data over in /var/lib/something. Users are in /home (with data in /var/www). How can I apply a single total disk space quota across all of these independent software systems (file systems, RDBMS, etc.)?
P.S. There's a bet going on around me as to just how awesome SU is. Let's see what you've got.
I installed MySQL and I want the service to (always) start. When I google I always find the same answer; Goto System > Administration > Services. But I don have it. Administration for me goes from 'Printing' to 'Software Sources', so there's no 'Services'...
Also should I be able to start it from a shell, but I also can find that. (I have no /etc/rc.d/-directory and my /etc/init.d/-directory han no 'mysql'). I just started using Linux a few days ago (I only used MaxOsX and Windows before).
Im using centos. I have install rpm for mysql
But when i have enter service mysqld start it shows mysqld: unrecognized service
And when I type mysql it shows ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)
I am trying to get mysql to start at boot without any success.
The mysqld scripts works fine when run from the command line, but it does not work when i use the links created by chkconfig. I checked the boot.log and found that mysql starts but then it stops or gets shutdown. This is the log message:
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /data/mysql [ OK ]
Starting cups: [ OK ]
STOPPING server from pid file /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
starting DenyHosts: /usr/bin/denyhosts.py --daemon --config=/usr/share/denyho
sts/denyhosts.cfg
090727 04:35:47 mysqld ended
The same init script works fine in Ubuntu.
I have a VPS running Debian. The time that it reports from the date command is two minutes fast.Is there a service that I can install that will keep the time correct?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently ported from Windows to Linux (xubuntu) I am a developer, i installed everything i need, LAMP. Now in Windows i used to turn off all unnecessary Services, i don't need the Apache or MySQL service running all the time. I used: net start mysql
Whenever i needed it. How do i do the same in Linux:
1. Disabling not-needed daemons from auto-starting?
2. Starting them only when i need them?

View 13 Replies View Relatedi want a service to be start at 8:00 and be ended in 14:00 automatically i already do this manualy by:
/etc/init.d/myservice.sh start
/etc/init.d/myservice.sh stop
i think it should be related to cron jobs.
Is there a way to limit the time an instance of a service can run? For example, I want to limit all telnet sessions to 30 mins. Users will be automatically logged out after 30 mins.

recently we decided to make our own panel (like Plesk or cPanel) but for Ubuntu and it will be licenced under GPL (like any other professional sofware).want to make a panel not only that fits our needs but also the needs of other system administrators and domain owners. We researched other panels and found out that non of them has security/look/ease of use in one package. Bad codig is another problem found in other panels.I made a short overwiev of what I think we have to have in the beginning.I Security :1. Completely chroot enviornoment where every single service is in chroot mode (bind, mysql, postfix, .... )2. Easily managed IPtables trough web-based interface. 3. Coding rules has to be strict.
II Software selection :
1. MTA - Postfix
2. POP - dovecot

I am running Server 10. I have a requirement to perform an action before the MySQL service starts, and perform another action after MySQL service stops.
I found the init script for MySQL under /etc/init/mysql.conf. I added my thing to the pre-start script there and works fine.
I am having trouble finding the script that stops the server so I can modify.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my server machine to F12 without realising that postgresql gets upgraded to 8.4, and without realising that 8.4 can't work with 8.3 databases.
Is there a way to install postgresql 8.3 on F12, preferably from Fedora repositories?
Alternatively, is there a way to migrate an 8.3 database to 8.4? I know that the recommended approach is to dump and restore the DB, but now that I have upgraded to F12, the pg_dump command doesn't work anymore.
There is also this open-source tool called pg_migrator but I couldn't find a package for it and it requires a complicated compilation and installation procedure.
The simplest solution seems to me to remove pg 8.4 and install 8.3 on Fedora 12.
I upgraded some days ago from F14 to F15, I once had postgresql-server configured and running, but now I'm getting errors when starting the service and I can't understand where the issue is.
Here some infos
