I currently doing a network emulator program and the features must includes the web-based interface for user configuration. I able to run my program through command line. But I would like to ask how to associate my program to web-based interface for user configuration?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to do a shell script which are suppose to run a program as a specific user at system boot up. The problem is that I don't know for sure how to make the script add the users password to the prompt when it's necessary.
Basically the program would be run like this:
sudo -u extrema program_name -r /srv/program_name -d
and in this example the password is, "hidden".
How would I make this script run this program as user extrema with the password "hidden" at boot-up? I know how to put the script in the rc.X directory and so on, its more the syntax of the code.

I'm trying to make a script that loads at boot and asks for user input before doing it's stuff. So I created a script in /etc/init.d/ following the example given there (skeleton file) and used update-rc.d to make it load before GDM.
But when my script requests user input, init doesn't stop, and goes on loading other services and loads GDM. I have to CTRL+F1 to get to my script. I want my script to pause the init system till it ends doing it's stuff and the the other services can go on loading.

I'm trying to replace an existing redhat server on our network which is performing as a gateway (unfortunately not meeting our needs) and this has a web-based management. It appears to be running 'asp' pages but these pages provide me no leads as to how it actually modifies the server's conf files.
I often need to change a small part of long environment variable (especially, e.g., paths), and do it either by pasting the thing into an editor and changing it there, or the equivalent.
Is there some small convenience utility to edit environment variables with a cursor on the command line?
I suppose I could always whip one up, but am hoping there's already something that I'm just not aware of.
I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. I want to switch to the Ubuntu NBR style desktop with the clutter based interface. How can I do that?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently been programming with Qt and slowly getting my head around it.I want to have a pet project to learn some more and then I got to thinking how should I go about this.My question is what is the proper way to program for Linux based GUIs? One of the things I would like to write is a small front end for newspost. I want to include extra stuff like rar and creating pars on the fly. So how should I go about integrating other CLI programs to make my GUI feature rich? I thought of three ways to approach this.
1. Take all source code and throw it into one self containing project. (think this is evil)
2. The GUI will basically assemble CLI commands and call them. This is nice but can very fragile.
3. The GUI will compile against rar-libs and other libs?
I am originally an MS programmer and don't think I should apply same practices toward Linux. So let me know what your opinions are and how you roll out GUIs.
I need to launch programs in my program and the program can be a script, a Linux executable or even a Windows executable. The first thing i tried is to use xdg-open from my program, but i can't pass arguments to it, otherwise it would have worked perfectly. Is there maybe a way to determine which program is set as default according to the mime-type of the program i want to launch? I also tried kfmclient and gnome-open, they don't allow arguments either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn an Ubuntu Server I am running, I wrote a small Ncurses program in GCC. It worked just fine.
Then, I copied the executable over to my Ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition with sftp. No matter what I did, it kept giving the error:
error opening terminal: xterm.
I had copied other non-curses programs and they all ran just fine.
Finally, I copied over the source, recompiled with GCC and voila, the executable now runs fine.
I've looked everywhere but I can't find where to change the default box for incoming mail, or am I on the wrong track. It's a nuisance having to change folders and I can't configure wastebin to empty on exit.And I can't get kmail to import from evolution. Do I have to go to the evolution storage and do it manually, and if so, how do I do that?

It's a big button that sends a SLEEP keypress to the computer when you slam it. But that is pretty boring. I'd love to remap it to do something more fun but I can't figure out how to bind to only the sleep press from the button and not from my ordinary keyboard.

So whether i can open this file and use stat call to identify whether the size is 0. If size is 0, i can assume no USB present. Else i can assume USB is present.
Whether my understanding correct. If USB inserted, how can i check the folders present in the USB stick.
