View 3 Replies View RelatedEveryone is wondering why we can't run gEdit and other tools from a terminal by logging in as root(e.g"su-"), I understand that by making changes they are trying to force us as users of Linux to learn better habits that are more secure, but the issues are driving people nuts!
I for one really like being able to log as root and open gEdit to make drive changes without having to login as root, I would normally still have access to all my things like email etc. So changing Linux to force everyone to not use tools like gEdit as root is becoming more of an inconvenience than they realize, there must be a safe way to do this!

I'm running version 5.0.51a of MySQL on Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit server.
The MySQL documentation found here [url] says to "start mysqld with the --log[=file_name] or -l [file_name] option".

How to enable MySQL logging since the above is not working?
My objective is pretty simple: To have a variable within a bash script where I can switch between logging to file or screen.
Simple example of what I am trying to do:

So, as you can see, I have a variable which clears the log path if the user variable vLOG is not 'Y'. This should mean the user can run the script from the command line and view all the output (instead of it going to a log file).
The problem is that with the final line of the script (which ultimately tests the intention), I don't get the required result as the vLOGPATH variable is just passed to echo as text.
I have tried using 'echo -e' and getting some backslashes in there, I have tried using eval but I am either using them incorrectly.
I am having a problem with bringing up a two node cluster.
It picks up a cluster configuration file from another cluster on the network where of course it does not find the local node
I've disabled openais, change the configuration to use a different ring but it is still happening.
I get the following error message code...
Is there a way to boost the logging for cman and openais so I can get more clues as to why it it is happening? I've only seen postings telling how to do it for resource manager .

I recently installed Deluge 1.2.0 from the following PPA:[URL]I using this on two different Linux computers. One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect.Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen using Gmsh (a mesh software) and Salome (CAD software and for post-processing too) for zooming, the system logs out, and all jobs are killed. I zoom using the middle button of the mouse, by pushing it (withing Gmsh), or pushing the middle button with the Control key (within Salome).But when zooming with the middle button but using the scroll function, that produces the zoom too, the softwares seem to be ok and no immediat crash (but I don't know how many times it will be ok ...).Is there any troubles with graphic libraries ?
PS: OS : CentOS 5.3, recently updated, x86_64. On other linux distribution, no trouble reported by other colleagues.
I installed a LAMP server using RHEL 5.5 but we needed a higher version of php than was available in RHEL Yum repositories. I think at the time I installed Dag Wieers and got a 3rd party package. My question is the following:
1. How do I remove the 3rd party packages?
2. How do I remove Dag Wieers from my Yum repo list?
3. Anything else I need to know to get all 3rd party packages off?
