General :: DVD ROM Not Picked Up By Computer
Feb 14, 2011I was asked to remove the Linux partition off a computer that had a Windows XP partition as well. I used a GParted LiveCD. I thought there might be problems, so yeah, no great surprise when after the Linux removal it couldn't boot into Windows. I saw on a different thread, that one can use a LiveCD to change a few Grub settings or something, since I don't think the Windows partition itself is damaged. However, the DVD-ROM isn't picked up by the computer. I want it to boot off the LiveCD, but no success. (And I have changed the boot order, since that is how I got the GParted to work in the first place) I checked the LiveCD on another computer and it is not damaged.

Grub2 is not picking Fedora even after i had done Grub update command.
I never edited Grub 2 thing and even /boot shows menu.lst.
sda6 contains opensuse and sda7 having fedora 12. Please let me know how can i edit Grub2 for fedora 12 entry code...
General :: Files Picked For Sync But Not Appear On Folder
Oct 4, 2010I have 2 Mounts /mnt/Movies and /media/Movies, mnt goes to a network drive that is mounted via cifs and media is also a network drive mounted via NFS. I normally keep drives in sync using rsync and have done so with these drives. But for some reason there's a bunch of files that on /media/Movies that just wont copy over to /mnt/Movies. I've tried touching the files and then running rsync with the whole file option it picks up the files need to be sync'd but they don't appear.
I've tried using cp on the missing files but the files just never appear but it does take about the right time for the prompt to come back indicating it would be copying the data. So my next idea was to use mc. I compared the 2 directories and it selects 83 files that are not in both folders, so then I tell it to copy them, and it comes back saying 'target already exists', if I overwrite or update they still don't appear. I've unmounted the shares, reboot the server and both network drives and run the network drives disk check but nothings helping. I'm trying to avoid deleting the folder and just rsyncing everything again.
SUSE / Novell :: Wireless Signal Being Dropped And/or Not Being Picked Up?
Jul 26, 2010I recently switched to openSUSE 11.2 and updated to 11.3 almost immediately. Everything appears to be working well, with the minor exception of my wireless.I go to connect and one of two things will happen. Either it will hang in a constant loop of preparing to connect and then asking for the security key and then back to connecting. That or it will just not connect period.I'm using a dell wireless 1397 mini-card.

Networking :: Setup A PXE Kickstart Installation - File (ks.cfg) Not Picked The Machine
Aug 4, 2010I am in a VMware environment, and using RHEL 5.4. I am trying to setup a PXE Kickstart installation. For this I have configured DHCP and TFTP, made a kickstart file and shared it in the network through HTTP. My problem is that somehow kickstart file (ks.cfg) is not picked by the machine in which I am installing the OS. Although, the contents of my kickstart file can be viewed over HTTP. Please see KS_Error.jpg.

However, I believe DHCP and TFTP is working fine as I am getting the correct IP 192.168.1.115 which I have set in /etc/dhcpd.conf. Also, my label 1 which I have set in /tftpboot/linux-install/pxelinux.cfg/default is working fine as I able to locate initrd and vmlinuz. Please see attached Image_1.jpg how to troubleshoot this. I need to paste any of my configuration files?.

Jul 14, 2011The problem is this: My movie collection is growing that large that it no longer fits on the 3TB storage I have available for it in my server.therefore want to start using external disks, but as I don't want to waste electricty I want to switch this drive on only when I want to watch a movie which is on this drive. This drive will be connected to my server running Fedora 15 x64. The movies will (most likely) be played by a machine running XBMC on an Ubuntu minimal install (10.04). Currently I use NFS to create a mount on this machine to my media folder.The question: How can I best setup this external drive and shares etc so to have these movies available from my XBMC machine when I switch on the drive, but nothing crashing when the drive is off (while the XBMC machine stays on)?

But when I login in with my user name and type env on the command line, I get for JAVA_HOME the following:

Nov 6, 2009I've managed to create a working RPM that does a bit of system configuration despite having little working knowledge of linux before starting. My RPM appeared to be working for awhile now but as a final test I installed it on a completely fresh install of RedHat enterprise edition 5.2 (after installing prereq rpms). It seems I'm running into a problem that the IMQ program(ie java message queues) will not boot correctly when I do this because it doesn�t know where to find the JRE.
I want to make sure that when my rpm is run the program actually works afterwards, and it won't work without IMQ. I was thinking I would have the RPM modify the IMQ configuration file to provide a -javahome argument when it boots up. I don't think I can set the configuration file to say '-javahome $JAVA_HOME' because the JAVA_HOME environmental variable won't be set until later in the boot up process after IMQ has attempted, and failed, to boot.
so I had thought the rpm could set whatever the value of JAVA_HOME is at the time the rpm is installed as the home for IMQ. So my questions are...
1) how can I require that JAVA_HOME is set prior to running my RPM, and have the RPM not install if JAVA_HOME isn't set
2) is there a good way to have rpm be able to undo the change I made to the configuration file if it is erased? Should I save a version of the old configuration file before I make the changes somewhere to be used?
3) is this the best way to do things, or is there a simpler method?

Now all I can input is the relative path. So if I want to go one level above my input will be ../mypath.
If I know the depth of the path used internally, I can use .. as many times to go to the root directory and then give the absolute path. But suppose I do not know the depth of the directory, can I construct a relative path string such that it considers it as a relative path. One way could be to have enough .. in the path string so that I can force an absolute path for some maximum depth of path.
Is there some path string syntax that I am not aware of but can achieve this?

My server was already loaded with 1.4 (at path /usr/bin/java) and our sys admin(I dont know why) copied another JDK, JDK 1.5 at path /usr/java/jdk1.5.0_16/. It seems very easy to use this java. Just set the path in .bash_profile. I did it and now if I run which java I still see the path for java 1.4 not java 1.5. Am I doing something wrong? Following is actual entry from bash_profile
