I have a mysql server which "goes down" every day at 9, because the debian-sys-maint user needs to run a table check, for no particular reason.
I assume it's a cron-job, but I can't find anything related to this. There's the mysqlautobackup script, but that runs at 4 in the morning, which is expected and perfectly acceptable.
I setup a virtual server with these configurations:
1. Mail server: POSTFIX / DOVECOT
2. Webmin / Virtualmin
I am getting email to desired folders locally but I am not getting email from outside to desired users. Emails are bounced back with message "Address not found in virtual alias table".
Recent log errors are:
Sep 8 04:25:49 server1 postfix/smtpd[28002]: cannot load Certificate Authority data
Sep 8 04:25:49 server1 postfix/smtpd[28002]: warning: TLS library problem: 28002:error:02001002:system library:fopen:No such file or directory:bss_file.c:122:fopen('/etc/pki/postfix/root.crt','r'):

I have a Fedora box running a domain and a sub domain. It also is the mail server running Postfix and Dovecot. I have created a new user account in the Virtual Alias.conf file and run postfix reload.
"e.g [URL] admin_company"
This new account can send mail internally and externally but cannot receive mail internally and externally.
The error message internally is: 5.1.1 <admin@threadneedle.com.pg>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table
My ISP offers the service of native IPv6. So my ADSL router provides me with a local and global IPv6 address. However after a reboot it takes minutes to finally see the global address when using "ifconfog eth0". During that time I can't do a ping6 to an external server, which seems logical. So I waited several minutes, but no global address. After that I started a KDE session, went back to the console(<Ctrl>+<Alt>+F1) and now the global address was there. Is this normal behavior or should I file bug report?

Transcript of session follows.
SMTP server: errors from unknown[ip address]

In: RCPT TO: <server@my domain>
Out: 550 5.1.1 <server@my domain>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table
Session aborted, reason: lost connection Now I cannot seem to find anything via Google, as when I put "server@" anywhere in the string, I just get web hosting or other kroomst. The emails usually come from legit places, usually hotels. Does this mean they are sending bad emails, i.e. they have a Trojan/worm, or is this a live hack attempt?. I believe the later, as I might get upto 3 domains from the one ip address, which is always, NOT associated with the listed domain. Not causing me any issues, except I have been getting a lot recently.
I'm working on a userspace application that needs to find if the kernel has a route configured for a particular destination address, and what port it would be routed from. I'm hoping there is a simple kernel call that will do this for me, but haven't been able to find it yet :-)
I don't want to actually send a packet to do this, just query the kernel if where it *would* send the packet if I did.
The only method I've come up with is to get the kernel routing table through rtnetlink then check each entry to see if it matches my destination address. I guess this will work (after one or two tries to get the logic right ;-) ) but I'd rather do a single call if there is one.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe purchased a virtual server from GoDaddy (1 month trial) to set up as a proxy for our networks (24 of them). I am having 2 separate issues. The first is I can't configure/install NAT and support is telling me the only way I can is to purchase a dedicated server. Here's the error:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 3128 iptables v1.3.5: can't initialize iptables table `nat': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?) Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded. Here's the fix: [URL] So, what I am hoping to do is configure this by just opening port 3128 directly, and only allowing access from our networks. As a test I did this and allowed only from our office and it did not work. However I can't connect, so I am wondering what I am doing wrong? Here's my squid configuration:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Centos 5.3. I ran no updates, performed no installs, nor changed any configuration immediately prior to this issue. My problem is this: when I run the command startx (default runlevel 3), it is a long time (5-10 minutes) before Gnome startx, and once it does start applications will not run. Also, when I try to use sudo (from any environment, even ssh), it is a long time (5-10) before the command is executed.
I cannot say for sure, but it seems like this is an intermittent problem. Sometimes X takes a long time to start, but once it starts it will launch programs. Sometimes X takes a long time to launch, but once it starts it will only launch certain programs. Though presently X always takes a long time to start, and I cannot successfully launch any programs.
A while back a had a similar problem to this (x taking long time to start, sudo taking long time to execute) and it ended up being a DNS problem. Unfortunately, I cannot remember exactly what it was and I stupidly did not document it. Maybe this is also DNS related, I don't know.
I don't know what log files to look at for problems with X, Gnome, and sudo taking a long time to start.
I am new to Debian but not Linux-based systems. I have been experimenting a lot with Debian Lenny/Squeeze. I am growing more comfortable each day with the Debian design. Yet there remain many unexplored areas. I am creating a migration check list. Things to check, prepare, or reconfigure when moving from one Linux-based system to Debian.
I have a good computer background and my current check list probably is fairly good. Yet I would appreciate input and opinions from experienced Debian users of things to watch in such a migration. Login defs, passwd/group files, different directory locations, keymaps, services and daemons, etc. I am not too concerned with the desktop as I plan to stick with KDE 3.5 for a while and I can basically move those settings across.
I want to put check menu & check list in utility dialog.i dont know how i do this
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm an academic (university networks and security lecturer) studying/teaching network and operating system security, and inspired by the work of Hovav Shacham set about testing ASLR on linux. Principley I did this by performing a brute force buffer overflow attack on Fedora 10 and Ubuntu 9. I did this by writting a little concurrent server daemon which accidently on purpose didnt do bounds checking.
I then wrote a client to send it a malicious string brute forcing guessed addresses which caused a return-to-libc to the function usleep with a parameter of 16m causing a delay of 16 seconds as laid out in [URL] Once I hit the delay I new I had found the function and could calculate delta_mmap allowing me to create a standard chained ret-to-libc attack. All of that works fine. However .... To complete my understanding I am trying establish where I can find the standard base address for ubuntu 9 (and other distros) for the following, taken from Shacham:-
Quote:
[code]....
/proc/uid/maps gives me some information but not the base address ldd also gives me the randomised starting address for sections in the user address space but neither gives me the base address. Intrestingly ... when a run ldd with aslr on for over (about) 100 times and checked the start point of libc I determined that the last 3 (least significant) hex digits were always 0's and the fist 4 (most significant) where between 0xB7D7 and 0xB7F9. To me this indicated that bits 22-31 were fixed and bits 12-21 were randomized with bits 11-0 fixed. Although even that doesnt define the boundaries observed correctly.
Note: I am replicating the attack to provide signatures to detect it using IDS, and for teaching purposes. I am NOT a hacker and if needed to could reply from my .ac.uk email address as verification.
Currently my OS is Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope Desktop OS and my web server is Apache2. I have a public address 60.x.y.z and my pc local address is 10.x.y.z. I have a web app in my Apache2 which currently run in localhost(10.x.y.z).
I would like to enable the web app so that it could be browse from outside. I know there maybe some port forwarding process and some commands involved in order to do that. But I have no idea on the steps to do that.
I am working on implementing a protocol on NS2.34 .I really need help to solve this problem . Actually , I don't now whether the problem is generated by the tcl code or the c++ code when I run the simulation, I get this result :
Code:
num_nodes is set 64
INITIALIZE THE LIST xListHead

45
channel.cc:sendUp - Calc highestAntennaZ_ and distCST_
highestAntennaZ_ = 1.5, distCST_ = 550.0

Version 10.04 LTS. Installed desktop version and network worked but I needed a static IP address and the install configures for a DHCP configured address. I tried changing to static address using the System->Preferences->Network Connections application but was unable to get the system to come up with the network up.
So I manually modified the /etc/network/interfaces and the /etc/resolv.conf files. I restart the system but when I do an ifconfig, I don't see a configured IP address on eth0 (only the loopback address). If I run /sbin/ifup eth0 everything then works fine and ifconfig shows the correct address bound to eth0.
My files are as follows:
When I try to search for something in the main address bar It always adds the following with my input at the end

No matter what I put in the Preferences->Networking area (identifying the interface as Manual)... it still will query DHCP for an address if I run the dhclient command. I'm using to using ubuntu server where I just set the IP in the interfaces config file.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need a small shell based program that prints the mac address of physical ethernet adapter from it's firmware. I need this utility for license generation and appliance activation. I have tried several example but none of them is flawless, The easiest method I have found is to parse the output of "ifconfig" command but it has also some drawbacks.
1. Firstly program should differentiate between physical and virtual adapters. Physical means installed on board(wired or wireless) or installed additionally. Virtual adapters are those created by VPN or created by virtualization apps such as VirtualBox/VMWare etc. I am not interested in virtual ones.
2. In case of more them one physical adapters(wired and wireless), it should print the mac address and description(name & vendor) of both/all adapters.
3. If media is disconnected then also it should be able to read the mac address and description(name, vendor) of card.
4. This one is bit complex. I know that 'ethtool' can show you the universal mac address but it's limited to use only 2 types of drivers and won't work in all cases.
I am running my own Postfix mail server. Some time ago I noticed that most email was rejected because of the server's dynamic IP address. So I got a fixed IP address. However then I noticed that some mails got rejected due to failing the reverse DNS check. So my ISP told me to get a range of IP addresses and they could then create a PTR record for one of those addresses. That is now running but it turns out that the IP address used for the PTR record is a ... dynamic IP address. So Spamhaus PBL rejects my emails again.
