Software :: Change MPD Output To Recognized USB DAC?
Jul 22, 2010
However I just added a new DAC that my system does recognize and will play music through (sound player in ubuntu and system sounds are now outputting to it just fine), but I cannot figure out how/where to specify that ampache/mpd use the DAC. ampache/mpd is still outputting the sound out of the soundcard line out successfully. i went into ubuntu's graphical sound config and turned off the soundcard and set the usb dac as default and hat seems to work fine for everything as I said.. except what i really want it to work on: ampache
(its a usb device: nuforce icon)
Using Ampache v 3.5.4
mpd 0.15.4
ubuntu 10.04 LTS
been pouring through docs/web for hours with no luck. theres no enough clear docs on mpd to figure this out. i don;t know how to configure an audio output that sends to this particular device.

I've been getting the hang of ubuntu. It's been a good switch from windows 7.
I'm having a bit of an issue which right now is causing me to regret deleting my windows partition. It'd be nice to have my dual boot set up right now.
Ubuntu is not recognizing my headphone output on my laptop.
I've been looking around but can't find a fix. Here's my alsa info script output.
Also, I'm running 64-bit ubuntu if that matters.

Sound used to work fine on my computer, but one day my headphone jack stopped working -- when I tried to use it, no sound played through the headphones but did play through the computer's speakers. After I tried to fix it, I lost ALL sound on my computer. I noticed in my sound preferences it says "Dummy Output" and no other hardware. The problem seems common -- I've Googled the issue to death and read many threads here about the same problem -- but no matter how many times I've tried, I can't find a solution that works for me.I'm relatively new to Ubuntu and so there's still a great deal of stuff that

I finally decided to transition to a 64-bit install (AMD64). (same machine, just reinstalling as a 64-bit kernel starting w/ a Debian squeeze netinstall image) My audio chipset is nvidia MCP61, and it was working perfectly under a 32-bit kernel (I did the transition because a poorly-written system backup script (my fault) hosed /usr, /bin, and /sbin) When everything was up and running:
*: KDE4 only recognized the output device as ALC1200 Analog
*: kmix only had a single channel(master)
*: alsamixergui did recognize all the channels
*: some games (sauerbraten, for example) had no sound in KDE4.
*: some games (warzone2100, for example) did have sound in KDE4.
*: the games that had no sound in KDE4 did have sound in fluxbox.
I removed the following packages (some of which I had installed to try to get audio working properly):
[Code]....

A few hours ago, my Ubuntu, for no apparent reason stopped sending proper signals to my monitor. I last updated Ubuntu about a week ago and since then I haven't had any problems until now so I believe that an update couldn't have caused this. Anyway, when I boot up, I see the purple boot up screen for just an instant and then the monitor displays a 'bad-input' message. There's nothing wrong with the monitor.
I have an ATI graphics card. (I tried switching to the Ctrl+Fx terminals.. didn't work). This is about the third time I've had serious issues with Ubuntu and I'm getting a bit frustrated with it.

I want to create a small simple application that will let me change the Output of the Sounds option to go from speakers to my headphones. I can do this easily enough through System --> Preferences --> Sound, but I'd like to create a GUI front end for me to do this. This is more as a learning exercise than anything else. What is the best language for me to build the windows to do this? Also, how do I find the commands to let me toggle the sound settings? Where are they documented? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.

I have a backup HDD with a different distro for my laptop and i can boot into it via external usb or if swapped into the laptop. This HDD/install in question is debian testing and was working fine, the issue arose suddenly. I was first suspecting a failure of hardware somewhere on the motherboard, but the hdd i was using with an external usb adapter also works when installed into the machine. also, the HDD is recognized once i have booted using the external HDD and distro, but it is not recognized by the bios. so i dunno, my first guess is something became corrupt within the testing install, but i guess its also possible that there is some wrong with the HDD but thats not immediately apparent as all the data is still accessible.
Should also note that the HDD with testing on it is also recognized when connected via the external usb adapter, while booted from alternative distro/HDD.
Also. just tried this, but i can get the testing HDD/disto to boot if connected externally. it was going pretty quick, but there i did catch a line about a corrupt filesystem. any commands to run to see what might be going on?? log files to look at?

I just installed Ubuntu 11.04. The drive was formatted when I installed so it's 100% Ubuntu. The only major problem I have encountered is that Ubuntu will not recognize my SD cards. I really need to access these cards, all my film footage is on there. I think the internal SD card reader (If such a thing exists) would have been deleted during the installation process. I am a greenthumb to Ubuntu and have never used it before so I am rather stuck...

I finally got audio working on my ubuntu 9.10 desktop... now I am having sound issues watching movies from a network share. The sound device continually randomly changes to "dummy output device" and then there is no sound output. The sound icon dissapears on the toolbar. To get it back and audio to start working I have to $sudo alsa force-reloadIt seems to happen everytime there is a network delay, the movie will stop for a second and then when it plays the sound is gone

I'm still trying to find out if my coby mp3 player will actually play mtv video files as is advertised.
ffmpeg -formats does list mtv but the only command I really ever used was one to convert a vid to an mp3 so I tried Code: ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -acodec copy output.mtv it returns Code: Unable to find a suitable output format for 'output.mtv' I can't find any mtv files online for purchase or free for that matter, so I know this is all pretty obscure but shouldn't there be a way to convert them since ffmpeg lists mtv format?

I'm using Ubuntu with GNOME and alt+tab for switching windows does not work for me. I checked the system prefs & the keyboard shortcut was correct set.
I even tried changing the key to something else (that doesn't contain alt). It didn't work either. It appears as if the manager didn't recognize the shortcut & the key strokes were passed through to the current application. Rebooting didn't help either. Note that I can do alt+f5, alt+space. alt+f2 didn't work though.
