i was just wondering if there is a way to change the gkrellm text size, ^^ it's just its too little for me, i have to get closer to be able to see what graphic is what. so... is there a way to make the text bigger? a theme maybe?
View 2 RepliesI run F15 on my desktop PC. I've run gkrellm on my desktop since FC5. This week I tried to add the gkrellm plugin gkrellm-freq via "Yum extender". The install appeared to be successful, but when I invoke gkrellm configuration gkrellm-freq does not appear on my list of gkrellm plugins. Also, gkrellm is not displaying the cpu frequency info.I use other gkrellm plugins (weather, sun) and they work fine.

Next thing, gaps between icons are smaller than before. I tried change theme to default (Adwaita), then run gtk-update-icon-cache, but without result.

On my netbook I run crunchbang in tty (because X isn't supported) and it looks rather ugly. I have made it look fairly nice with the .bashrc but the text size is way too large. Is there anyone here that knows how to change it?Also I was wondering whether a png could be used as a tty background. Though I am possibly pushing the limitations of tty with that one lol.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do you increase the text size in the virtual terminal (the one you get to when you press ctrl+alt F1-6)? My monitor is pretty old and kind of small, so I need the bigger text size to really be able to use it at all. I tried to find the answer in google, but I couldn't find the answer. I found answers for suse and ubuntu and tried to use those. They said to edit part of the boot loader config file, but I couldn't find a similar line in the grub.conf file. And I don't want to play with it without knowing what I'm doing.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI installed Suse 11.2 on my computer... i have 42" screen threw my HDMI output at 1360x768. now.. when i booted it up the first time.. .the text on everything was so small i could hardly read it... so i went and adjusted it threw my System settings by clicking on "Configure Desktop" changed everything to "Sans Serif 15"... BUT.... everything in YAST all the text is NOT readable... ANY ONE KNOW how to fix that..everything BUT yast is just fine...
View 3 Replies View RelatedA thread on text size in console got sidetracked to discussing fbterm. In an effort to not (further) hijack that thread, I've started this one.[URL].. Anyway, I was asked how I got ibus-fbterm working. I only really got it working in ArchLinux, not Fedora, but I suspect if someone works enough at it, they can get it working in Fedora as well. I do a minimal installation, installing X and fluxbox or openbox. One also needs to have framebuffer working--if you have nomodeset in grub, due to, for example, using an NVidia driver, this won't work. You will have a /dev/fb0. In Arch, this is owned by root:video. When installing fbterm, there's a message that one should add themselves to the video group in order take advantage of this.
I used it with ibus-anthy. First, I made sure that that worked properly in X. I then installed fbterm and ibus-fbterm. So, to get it working, first be sure that ibus and your desired input method is working in X. Then, you have to have rights to /dev/fb0--in Arch, this was easy, making myself a member of the video group, not sure about the best way to do it in Fedora. As a temporary experiment, I just did a chmod 777 on it, which is obviously not the best solution.
Now in console, start ibus
ibus-daemon --xim
Before running fbterm, run the command
setcap 'cap_sys_tty_config+ep' /path/to/fbterm
as root or with root privilege. In Arch, the setcap command was there, in Fedora, I had to install it. I'm afraid I forget what program provided it, I had to use yum provides */setcap Then call ibus-fbterm with ibus-fbterm-launch You'll see that your console looks slightly different. Now, if it works, you should be able to hit ctl+space and then input the language of your choice (in my case Japanese.) In Fedora, it didn't work. I would hit shift space and enter characters, but nothing happened.
In Arch, it was a bit better--I'd hit ctl+space and enter something. Then, when I hit enter, I would see the results of what I'd typed. I couldn't edit it until I'd left input mode by hitting ctl+space again. That is, after hitting enter, I'd see the result of what I typed, but couldn't backspace.or otherwise go back. What it would do is, when I was trying to select kanji, by hitting the space bar after t yping the phonetic, is, after the second or third hit of the space bar, it would show the kanji choices and I could pick one.
I have 24" dual monitors with 1920x1080 resolution on both of them. Consequently the text appears so small. I use the following text-intensive applications frequently:
Web browser (Google Chrome)
IDE (Komodo)
Terminal (Gnome Terminal)
Email (Thunderbird)
I can configure text size on IDE, Terminal and Email. But for Chrome, it is not a good idea to set proportional font size because often one wants to see the entire (not just proportional fonts) site to be zoomed. So I am asking: Is it possible to increase DPI in Ubuntu (much like on Windows) so as to increase the text size across all apps? OR Is it possible to set permanent 'zoom' in Google Chrome, using a third-party extension maybe?
I have a ubuntu linux working in TEXT mode. I would like the change the font size (or if possible, get my terminal with inconsolata font). How can i do it?

So I need an editor that can take its initial window size from command line args or environment variables, or possibly from an initial command that can be given on the command line.I've looked at documentation and experimented with gedit, gvim (and vi & vim), and nano and I don't think any of them can be controlled this way. Vi and its friends have a "window" option and also a "resize" command, both of which are described as setting the number of rows, but they don't change the graphical window size they just change the number of rows displayed in the window.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora 15/Gnome 3 because I liked the Universal Access Settings widget for controlling the appearance of my living room computer attached to my TV. It should (when it becomes more stable) make it easy to zoom in on the screen when I'm on the couch. There is also a Large Text setting that allows me to toggle between normal text size and perhaps 125% text size.
I'd like to set that value to about 200%, but don't see how to do it. dconf-editor didn't seem to have a way. gnome-tweak-tool has a way to make all fonts bigger or smaller but I want to easily switch between normal text size when I'm sitting close and large text from the UAS. Screwing around with gnome-tweak-tool would require me to be up-close. It looks like UAS is controlled by /usr/share/gnome-control-center/ui/uap.ui, but it is a wickedly complex xml file & I don't know what to edit. Is there a per user way to change the behavior?
I have been trying to add more sensors for hdd drives temperatures but i see only one and no place/options to add more.I know they all work,(i have 4 physical hdd) if i use the hhdtemp command (dev/sdXX) it show the temp for all of them (one at time).
Any way to make gkrellm display all of them ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't get Gkrellm to show my fan speeds anymore since reinstalling Ubuntu.I have tried 9.10 and 10.04 and tried installing packages to maybe get the drop down to show up for fan speed but still nothing.I have installed Xsensors and that shows fan speeds correctly but I want to show them in Gkrellm like I used to have. Now every other temp gauge is working like it used to but the fan speed monitor.

View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to enable transparent themes on Gkrellm and KDE 4. AND ASK FOR HELP WITH A PROBLEM FURTHER DOWN THE PAGE. Libsensors is THE program for gathering sensor data for use in various applets. Some few (mostly older) sensors have their output sent to a system file, where it can be picked-up and used by the system, but the best way to get sensor data, especially for newer sensor chips, is directly from libsensor. Since 2007 libsensor support has been built out of Gkrellm in Ubuntu (perhaps all of Debian, though I'm unclear on that). From some cursory research on the internet, I discovered that in 2007 libsensors did a major update, and Gkrellm did not. Problems insued. Support for libsensors was dropped in Gkrellm. Even though a patch was produced fairly quickly, support for libsensors in Gkrellm was never re-allowed. There is a bug on this here.
To enable support for libsensors in Gkrellm you have to build Gkrellm from source (EGADS!!) It's really pretty easy with this package and mine went off without a hitch (and I now have WONDERFUL readouts from my atk0110 sensors on my asus mb.). You can find the source package for Gkrellm here, and you can find some easy instructions for building it here. Piece of cake (really!). Okay, on to invisibility.... Gkrellm invisibility doesn't happen in KDE 4 (without a little tinkering...). I discovered the fix by looking for insights in pages discussing the same problem in conky. I found a good one, and thinking the same situation might apply to gkrellm, I tried it and IT WORKED! Here's the original post. My gratitude to the author. I'm going to reproduce the process here for posterity's sake, and because the command has changed slightly with the location of the plasma-desktop-appletsrc file.
So, gkrellm uses fake transparency. It samples the desktop at its coordinates and reproduces the image as its background. Gkrellm doesn't use the user's desktop to sample from - it uses the root desktop image - hence the strange-looking colors I got whenever I tried one of the transparent themes. Okay, so first you need to make your current desktop image your root desktop image. To do this you need to install "feh" (copy and paste these commands into terminal)

After that's done, enter this in terminal:

Okay, now it needs to be set-up so that it'll load automatically. The feh documentation recommends setting this in ~/.xsessionrc (if you don't have one, make one with kate - and don't forget the dot before the name [ the expression ~/ is shorthand for your home directory path, /home/username, so the aforementioned path in full would be /home/username/.xsessionrc ]):

That done, we arrive at a problem. I could use some help here, if anyone has any idea how to fix it. It's not a deal-breaker, but it's definitely inconvenient if you like to change your wallpaper a lot. The feh program creates a file called ~/.fehbg to store the actual path of the image used as 'wallpaper'. Unfortunately, it stores it like this:

The two single quotes enclosing the path are unfortunately read as part of the path, so when feh (or if it hands it off to bash or kde) looks for the image file it can't find it. You get a no such file error in feh. I created a bug report here. The only way I know of to fix it (I tried removing various sets of quotation marks from the original feh command to no avail) is to open the ~/.fehbg file in kate and remove the two single quotations, so it looks like this:

But you must still do one more thing. You must change the permissions on ~/.fehbg to root, or the image's path will be overwritten the next time it's opened (at next login), with the single quotes included. Doing so fixes the issue in the short term, but when you change desktop images you'll have to reinstate your user privileges on the file, and re-run the original command to allow the file to be written to by feh (with the new image path), then edit the file again to remove the single quotes.

I've been squinting at the screen for a little while now but it's just proving to give me more of a headache and hurt my eyes than anything. View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running OpenSUSE 11.2 on my Acer Aspire One with a 9 inch LCD. I have configured the monitor in Sax2 to reflect the size and 1024x600 resolution, and as a result the desktop fonts are all sized correctly.
However, the fonts on the KDM log-in screen are too large, and I'd like to reduce them if possible. Looking in the KDE Control Center, I tried using the Login Manager utility to adjust the KDM theme, but any changes I made seemed to have no effect i.e. changing the font size, or even the overall theme itself, still resulted in KDM using the default green OpenSUSE theme with large fonts.
Does anyone know, therefore, how to adjust the KDM font size or DPI in OpenSUSE 11.2?
(I hope I am not repeating myself here, as I have tried to send this before but don't see the post): I now have upgraded to Suse 11.4 and I can't find how to set the console settings. It fills the whole screen, and the font is tiny. I am able to enlarge the font, but not to change the window size. Under 11.2, I was able to set the font, and an 80 characters per line, 40 lines window, and then make all that permanent.

I guess that's because I can't unmount it. And... I guess my Ubuntu won't work if I unmount it? xD
So... I heard that I could use a Gparted live CD to do this.
The only problem is that I can't boot from a cd/dvd drive.
So, is there a option to change the partition size while running Ubuntu?
Or is there a option to somehow unlock all BIOS settings?
When I try to acess the BIOS settings it ask for a password, and I just press enter... And I come to a menu where I can't change anything. Is this because of wrong password? Or is the password right but everything is blocked?
