I am starting to use Shotwell for my photo management in lieu of DigiKam. One tool that I liked in DigiKam which does not seem to be present in Shotwell is the ability to add/edit geolocation data. Is there anyway of working with geolocation data from within Shotwell?

If the second user`s name is Marry, the way will be /home/marry/images/holiday and Shotwell don`t accept this.

The first hard drive had a boot partition along with an LVM partition, the other two hard drives were also LVM.From what I remember I have to mount all three at once for LVM to function correctly but I don't have available hardware (particularly a motherboard that can mount all old IDE).Can I use a USB<->IDE converter to image the disks, and then mount them?What Linux distro should I set up to recover the data?ow do I know what version of LVM is needed?

It is not a website html issue.***PROBLEM***Images are not beind displayed,javascripts are not being run, however when the site is viewed from a local source as a file(like on a USB Flash Drive) they work fine and display properly.Here is the website URL:I have removed a lot of the images and content or changed it in order to troubleshoot it myself, so the site is stripped pretty bare. There is supposed to be a logo inside the "header" <div>, which is set in the CSS file "style.css". There are supposed to be images for navigation, but they show up as red "x"'s. I removed the javascript elements and just trying to work with barebone html/css and can't seem to get it to display properly.

I know the data is in there somewhere and I can change if I knew where it was.
I use dual boot with windos 7. i use xampp in win7. want to use lampp for ubuntu 10.04. i want to use one local server directoy for both . i successfuly changed htdocs location in lampp. but could not change mysql data directory location.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).
Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.
My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.
using the update maneger to update on ubuntu new linux images available 2.6.31-17 generic and after the download is complete both images exist in the grub menu should i remove them ? or just remove them from the boot menu ? and if so how could i do each.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know that ImageMagick's convert program can be used as follows to convert a collection of images -- say, in PNG format -- to a PDF file:
convert *png output.pdf
The problem with this is that each image is then stretched to fit on one page, whereas I would like to keep the original dimensions of the images and put as many as possible on one page in the PDF file before moving on to another page.
I'm working with a program that uses Open Motif to create all of the widgets, including the Open File dialog box (obviously). However, Open Motif being kinda old-timey, 80's vintage, and for the most part now an abandoned project, it is quite clunky. So, actually what I need to do is to open some files located on my work server. I have already successfully connected to the relevant server directories with Samba, and with programs built with GTK+ (such as GIMP) I can open files across the network because I have created a bookmark in Nautilus, and those bookmarks appear in the Open File dialog box created by GTK+. Now, Open Motif is different: it doesn't see network locations, orNautilus shortcuts. When I type "smb://serveripyadayada" in the search folder, it really doesn't like it and complains. So, what do I do? Can I get somehow Open Motif to open a network location? Or can I do a run-around and place a shortcut in the file system that points to the network location?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others.And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.
Or am a missing something here? Does this exist?It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.
Fedora seems to be a very good distro when it comes to smartly choosing the right software, but I found it odd that there are two different image managers. Wouldn't it be better to have only one and save some space on the disc (preferably Shotwell, since even though it's not yet capable of viewing every format you might throw at it, it otherwise blows Eye of Gnome away in features and polish)? Maybe use that space to make Liferea reader a default application and throw us RSS lovers a bone?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed shotwell on my 10.04 machine and it worked great, especially uploading to facebook. It installed version 0.7.2. So I installed it on a 9.10 machine, and it installed version 0.5.2 which has problems uploading to facebook. I installed using these commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yorba/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install shotwell
I tried using "sudo apt-get upgrade" but nothing happened. I searched for a Deb file for version 0.7.2 but couldn't find one.
I have been testing ubuntu 10.10 maverick, it has some nice features. Anyway I am missing the possibility of writing manually the folder you want to go on nautilus using the Location bar. It was used to have some kind of icon which you can click and it switched between graphich breadcrumbs or the location of the folder and you could changed it manually, you know what I mean?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm a desktop user and I rely heavily on Debian and shotwell to organize my images. I also use shotwell to publish images to a popular social networking site, Facebook. Recently I wasn't able to make shotwell publish into Facebook.
I was still on Debian Wheezy and decided it was time to dist-upgrade to Debian Jessie and hope that this would sort things out. It wasn't easy for me to upgrade - but I think I made a fairly satisfying one as I can normally use what I use my desktop for (work and entertainment).
I still cannot use shotwell to publish into Facebook.
Shotwell keeps on crashing when importing either from a folder or my iPhone. I am using it on an S10 netbook. I tried several versions but keeps on getting the same problem. I am thinking of cleaning everything from Shotwell and reinstall. I am running Ubuntu on an iMac via vbox (with less resource) and do not get the problem.
I tried searching but have not gotten any solid answer to resolve it.
I've installed Gloobus Preview and It can be launched in Applications>Accessories>Gloobus Preview.
If I click something like a JPEG and hit spacebar it opens the pic in Shotwell, not Gloobus Preview. Do I need to change settings or something?
Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick
I've imported my pictures into Shotwell, but not all of them are showing up. For instance, I have an event (White Water Rafting) where 25 of the 48 pictures got imported correctly. The rest of them were placed in this 2008/12/28 folder and this folder is not visible in Shotwell so I cannot move them into the album.
I can manually move the pictures to their proper dates, but how do I add them to the database? One caveat, the pictures are stored in an accessible /home/SHARE/Pictures/Photo directory so my wife and I can both import into the same place and have access (while the kids have read-only access). I placed the .shotwell directory with all of the database information in /home/SHARE/Pictures/.Shotwell and linked our local .shotwell directory in our home folders to this shared location version.
I am wondering if there is a way to:Force the inclusion of these pictures that are not showing up? Force the database to re-create the thumbnails/scan for particular dates or should I remove (rename) the database, move the files to where they should be and re-import the entire structure (minus the "copy to ... " option)
I just finished upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10 and converting from F-spot to Shotwell, including adding a large number of new photographs (>15 k).
On opening Shotwell today I found that all "tags" and "events", including those from the F-stop imported photos, have disappeared!! (strangely the photo ratings are maintained)
No amount of searching was able to relocate them. The modification date on the photo.db in the .shotwell folder is pre-problem, so I am holding out some hope that the relevant data have not been over-written.
I am not familiar with sql so do not know how to check the db (or restore the correct headers or whatever else is needed).
I've used Shotwell to give titles to a lot of photos, and now realise that I want to also rename those files using the title. I see that Shotwell saves the title into XMP IPTC structure, using this: dc:title[x]. how to batch rename a bunch of files using this data?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running ubuntu 10.04 on one computer, 10.10 on another two and kubuntu 10.04 on a 4th computer.
I'd like to get the latest version of shotwell installed on each of those computers. That way I can share libraries among the computers and keep my pictures in sync with tags and events.
How would I go about doing that other than upgrading all the computers to 10.10. Is this something ubuntu can do or is this a downside of ubuntu?
Is there any chance to remove side panel of shotwell and have an appearance like somehow F-Spot or is there any other programs that have same appearance like F-Spot. F-Spot seems good to me but it's lacking of sorting is a bit annoying.

I'm using Debian testing but I want Shotwell (and nothing else) from experimental. I also like to be notified when there is an update to Shotwell in experimental. Will that be achieved if I add experimental to sources.conf and the following to preferences?

I have tried downloading including the launchpad ppa and wanted to install shotwell, but get the following error:

is there a way to import video in shotwell photo manager? i had that option with Gthumb but can't find it in shotwell?
i have hd .mts files i would like to import. i know i can also just browse the card and take them off manually.
Connected Camera. Imported photos to Shotwell.Shotwell asked whether to keep or erase photo from camera. I chose to erase.Started viewing the imported photos. After sometime Shotwell froze.Checked my photos folder, the photos haven't been copied there yet. Checked the camera; It's empty.There were 2 sqlite databases (.tmp files) in /tmp. Copied. I couldn't find those photos in either /tmp or ~/.shotwell or anywhere else.
