Software :: Typing CC Command While Compiling Programs?

Feb 24, 2010

I am doing my project which detects and displays the error message along line number when compiling c programs under Linux. Using gcc command..cc command which we generally use. For which my program must act as a compiler and generate error messages when user program is written and compiled. My idea was to develop a shell script program using name suppose ncc that would be..

$ vi ncc.sh
echo "compiling program $1"
$cc MyPgm.c
$.a/.out
<esc>
:wq
Now user program pgm1.c can be compiled using
$ sh ncc.sh pgm1.c

This will invoke my compiler program. But the thing is how to pass user program pgm1.c as input to my compiler program...

General :: Compiling And Running C Programs

I am new to C programming and I need a way to compile and run my code. I've made a little research and I found that eclipse is a nice IDE. But I don't know how to configure it and generally. What do I need to download and install to make it work. I've also tried downloading easy eclipse that doesn't need any configuration or extra files but the link on the site was broken. Is there any other C IDE like easy eclipse available?

Ubuntu :: Compiling And Running Some C++ Programs (with G++ From The Terminal)?

Jun 7, 2011

so i've just been sitting here, compiling and running some c++ programs (with g++ from the terminal), I looked away for one minute to open a file that had just been written out (opened it with gedit if that makes a difference), now my terminal says:kbuildsyscoca4 running...so I'm wondering if anyone knows what this is about?hy it suddenly started running and why it has appeared on my terminal. I'm basically just curious as I though bash shells were entirely separate virtualizations of shells, and unrepresentative of other processes. i'm also wondering what kbuildsyscoca4 is/does (i've got gnome going on and generally gnome varieties of programs). I found a post from about a year ago mentioning the same thing, though no replies.

Software :: Hidden Typing Mistakes On Command Line?

Mar 15, 2010

I use xterm and my kernel launches framebuffer before X windows.I reckon this is what's reponsible for hiding my all-too frequent typing mistakes.I'm a terrible typist, especially when in a hurry, but obviously you see your mistake and you correct it.owever if the terminal actually hides your mistakes, well you can have a frustrating few seconds. This sometimes happens to me and I think it's due to my Spanish keyboard and all the special characters that I can mishit. When I go to correct them (at least visually) the command fails and bash reports back (say, the filename) with an extra character (often a question mark).This all happens quickly and easily corrected but it's very annoying becuase of the way it hides these mistakes from your eyes

Fedora :: Compiling Programs - No Package Libnotify Found

Configure: error: Package requirements (libnotify) were not met:

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables LIBNOTIFY_CFLAGS
and LIBNOTIFY_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details. But I have the newest version of libnotify.

I am new to Slackware and I am wondering how you set the ARCH variable. On the multilib wiki page it says:

"Rather than editing the script and change/remove CFLAGS definitions, you can set the ARCH to 'x86_64' and save yourself some time."

So from this I understand that they advise against editing the Slackbuild script. How do I set the ARCH variable on the command line or is it a configuration file I need to edit? I am running Slackware 13.1 64.

General :: Compiling Programs - Steps For Producing Executable

Oct 19, 2010

I'm trying to get my head around compiling programs, and need some things clarified. Can anyone confirm or deny my understanding so far:

1) Program is written in high level language, such as C. File(s) of the program are the 'source code'.
2) Program is then 'compiled' to turn it into low-level code that is both hardware - i.e. Intel/AMD/ARM processor specific, and also Linux distribution specific. This resulting files are called the binaries.
3) I can go from source code to installed and usable program by doing these steps:
./configure
make
make install

Programming :: Fortran OpenMPI-1.4.1 Installation / Compiling - Error Message Saying Mpif Not Recognized Command

Feb 4, 2010

I've installed openMPI-1.4.1 on my laptop and I'm trying to compile some fortran code I've written using MPI. I downloaded the openMPI-1.4.1 file from the openMPI website and used the shell script they provide to install it. This is the shell script:

shell$ cd openmpi-1.4.1
shell$ ./configure --prefix=/usr/local
shell$ make all install

There was an additional line extracting the tar file, but I did this by hand. The first time I ran this script there was an error on the final stage saying that a directory couldn't be created because of lack of permission. I decided to run the script again this time as a sudo.

Having run the script again everything appeared to install properly, however when I went to compile some fairly simple code I got a message saying that the compiler couldn't find MPI. I was using this command: gfortran messages.f90 -o messages I looked on the openMPI website where it recommends compiling with a compiler called mpif. However when I type mpif messages.f90 -o messages I get an error message saying mpif isn't a recognized command......

General :: Start GUI Programs From The Command Line?

Aug 18, 2010

In Windows, if I have a console window open, type winmine, and press enter, Minesweeper will appear, completely separate from the cmd program. The Minesweeper instance is not tied to the command prompt in any way that I know of, with the exception of Minesweeper's parent being set to that instance of the command prompt. It's different in Linux, however.

In Linux, if I have a console window open, type emacs and press enter, Emacs will open, but it seems tied to the command line. Specifically, it appears that I can't use the command line anymore until that instance of Emacs is closed. Is there a way to replicate the Windows behavior in Linux?

Server :: Passing On Command Line Switches To Other Programs?

Nov 10, 2010

On our server we have a certain directory, say /storage, that contains many large files. They are all compressed (gzip). Many of our users are not computer-savvy, and so when one of these files is needed, they will copy it to their own directory. Consequently, we have multiple terabytes of duplicate data. I'd like to enforce an alias whereby if someone tries to use cp on a file from /storage, they will instead create a symbolic link. My idea was something like:

alias cp='cp.storage'
File cp.storage:#!/bin/sh
truePath=$(readlink -f "$1")

[code]....

The conditional checks whether the file being copied begins with "/storage". The problem with this is that if someone wanted to use cp with any options on a file not in /storage, those options would be obliterated. Can someone guide me as to a good way to accomplish this? Either a way to get the options from cp into cp.storage, or another approach not using alias this way. Everyone will be using bash.
