View 1 RepliesI have set up a couple of postfix servers for my domains, but the only thing I am missing now is this: How to block the public sending mail from my email to my email? I have managed it with SPF, but surely there must be a better way, that returns "relay not allowed" to the client. The SPF method costs too much, since it must make a dns request for each mail. So far, I have not gotten many of these mails, unless when testing my mailserver, but as I see it, anyone should not be allowed to send mail from abuse@mydomain.com to abuse@mydomain.com.
Somebody must have thought about this a long time ago, and there is simply that little line in main.conf that I'm missing.. My setup is this (virtual): I have a primary mx, with postfix, courier IMAP/POP3 server, a user database, and sasl via saslauthd. I also have a secondary mail server (backup mx) with no sasl auth, but with a copy of the mail users in the virtual tables, but added as relay_* users instead.
Spamassassin and SPF testing is replicated too, so most of the stuff should work, but I simply cannot find a setting in Postfix that denies someone to mail FROM my address TO my address. When mailing from my address and out in the open, they are required to authenticate, but not when using one of my my domain addresses, and also targeting my domain addresses.
As said, It is possible with a strict SPF setting, but that is at a cost for every lookup. It would be quicker for postfix to lookup the sender and the recipient in the relay/virtual tables, and deny if both addresses were in the recipient tables, and sender is not authenticated.

i get about 30 of those a day, everyday, for a long time. ive asked the ISP to stop it (theplanet.com) they are not responding and the spam continues. i was thinking is there a way that i can tell postfix to reject emails that contain "No Cost Website Analysis and Ranking Report" in their subject? there must be a way but i dont know how.
I just setup SpamAssassin and what not following this tutorial

I am using CentOS 5.3. I was half way through that and got an email that had ***SPAM*** in the subject. Haven't received any more. First of all I want to know if spam will still get delivered, and just have a modified subject. Second, I want to know how to set it up so Spam goes to a user's spam mailbox (Virtual Users). And third of all, is it possible to disable spam filtering on a user basis, preferably using MySQL tables? Is it possible for users to mark a message as spam, and all further messages sent from that address will be sent to spam folder but only for that user?
EDIT: Yes spam is getting delivered with a modified header, on the server site, how can i deliver to spam folder? how to create IMAP virtual mailboxes on request without having to send an email to them first? Using virtual users with Courier Imap

I currently have the following email server set up:
Postfix with mysql backend
Dovecot
clamav
spamassassin
amavisd
And it all works great. However I would like it for amavisd to forward all the marked spam into a folder on each user account, but I cannot figure this out.
We have a vpn that is accessible to anyone. We already block port 25, 587 and 465. But I am still receiving spam reports. I believe that the users of my vpn is infected by a virus or something that sends spam. Are there any other ways that spammer send spam mails without using the smtp ports?
My guess is that they are trying to send it by accessing a webmail. Have you heard of anything like that? how to block spam?
I use Debian Jessie + KMail on desktop side. My mail server has Spamassassin installed. My problem is that I receive some spam and it goes though the server-side filtering.
I mark all messages as SPAM in KMail but neither KMail or the server learn that those are spam and should not enter the inbox.
How to get rid of the messages? Unsubscribing is not an option - I don't want to click on any link contained in the mails.
When something comes in that gets sent straight to my junk mail folder, a notification STILL pops up... Also of note, I would like to stop notifications for my RSS feeds... I love my RSS feeds but this is ridiculous.

We have a spam in our network and we installed antivirus in all our systems and cleaned the virus from all pc's after that i had removed my ip from the database of blocked ip's but still my ip is blocked for sending spam i don't know from which pc the spam is going on the internet.
so i have a question that my proxy server is redhat linux and as a newbie i don't know the command's to find out which pc is creating large bandwidth to the internet. If you tell the command how to see which pc is sending spam then i will discard that pc. Also i want a strong firewall to stop spam activities.
As of recently I've started receiving IM messages on one of my windows messenger accounts that I'm using with Pidgin that appear to be coming from certain contacts that have already been blocked. The messages are spam with a link to [URL]. Most probably there is something wrong with my security settings.

how to defend from spam mail, actually i used centos. i want to absolutely block spam, my Mailscanner running ok but the spam still run off to my server. i do everything from tuning mailscnnner, spamassassin, amaisd-new but spam still send to user 10-20 per days.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI, as many here, have friends on different IM accounts (and btw, so great that we have pidgin and empathy and not have to deal with 3 different softwares to talk to them) and of all that I have... which are not so many... one of them sends me spam, not all the time, but it happens and I kind of feel sorry for her so I'd like to see if there's a way for her to retake control of her account or if she can't do anything at all with it.
I have other friends in MSN but I get spam only from her and she's given up on how to fix it cause she doesnt know how to. I did a search (and keep looking for more in the web) and so far it doenst look promising (but is also because I dont know what else to do). The problem is I get messages which I know for sure are spam, cause her english is more limited and the messages are very polished in that regard.
I got this from another discussion elsewhere: "troutbot = These bots get your IM from scraping the Internet screenname and connect you randomly to someone else. While you're talking to the troutbot, they're just an intermediary connecting you to some other guy who also had his IM scraped." So far the times I get spam... the other side never answers, but if my friend is online she can. I thought that on these IM services... if you are logged in nobody else can log in with your username/password...
1.Have installed ubuntu 10.04 on 2 pc's both run xp on 1 pc boot up selects xp the other selects ubuntu as the first choice. Why?
2.How do I uninstall ubuntu, and what effect will it have on xp ( both imported xp documents and settings ).
3.Do I need an antivirus or spam/malware filter?
I had setup postfix and spam assassin, and in my environment, I forward the incoming email to my exchange server.
Everything works now, in my mail box, I can receive the email with subject ******SPAM*****. but is there a solution, when spam assassin finished the scan and mark spam, if the score is very high, may be stop to forward it to exchange, for example, send it to a special email box?
I just saw that my network is slowed so I watches the /var/log/squid/access.log where I get this line continuously....

I thought that someone running any script so I disconnect all my LAN connection (simply removed the local lan cable) but I saw the connections is going on....so I watch the processes on proxy server but nothing suspicious....So I change my static IP and the spamming stops (I say it is spam b'coz the IP 203.188.197.10 is of yahoomail.com ) but I when I am putting my OLD ip back the connection starts again......I want to put back my old static IP b'coz I have configured it for many services. Is there any spyware on my machine or someone configured my IP?
We operate a small ISP and are currently using a debian distro as our gateway server.Recently we have had an increased number of spam issues with customers (not them sending it directly, rather the customer getting infected with a virus/malware and then their computer becoming a bot).I'd like to set up another gateway of sorts to sit after our authentication gateway but before our backbone to provide spam filtering (and hopefully virus filtering) for any traffic passing through which might be email.I've tried searching for any linux based software which would suit, but I'm coming up empty.
Surely there's something already out there which can perform this task. Finally, just to clarify, I'm not talking about spam filtering for email accounts we host ourselves (this is built into our mail server); I'm talking about spam originating from customers PC's which is passing through our gateway (but not our mail server).
I'm setting up email gateway using Postfix, Amavisd-new, ClamAV and SpamAssassin on Opensuse 11.1. Everything seems okie, but I can't have messages with added spam headers, such as:
X-Spam-Flag: NO
X-Spam-Score: 0.233
X-Spam-Level:
X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.233 tagged_above=-10 required=6.6
tests=[ALL_TRUSTED=-1.8, AWL=0.536, BAYES_50=0.001,]
When I try to debug amavis, I can see that SPAM-TAG, <abc@yahoo.com> -> <celeron@domain.com>, No, score=5.406 tagged_above=-999 required=6.2 tests=[LOCAL_DRUG=4, NO_DNS_FOR_FROM=1.407, NO_RELAYS=-0.001] but they don't add to email messages. I've configured amavisd-new with $sa_tag_level_deflt = -999 to add spam headers at all but not successful.
I need to implement a form of filtering. Current topology is like so:
Internet -> Smoothwall -> MS Exchange server (w/ OWA) -> Clients
So I need to enable transparent spam filtering on the smoothwall system, which is a full fledged Linux system. There are no 'free' modules available for smoothwall that enable spam filtering. And due to the monetary constraints of the project I'm working on, something free is required.
I don't have any experience with this - I've done a couple of searches and came up with "SpamAssasin", but I can't find any relevant guides that allow transparent scanning - they all assume the mail is stored on THAT server.
So I'm here to ask the more experienced people what sort of packages will enable this functionality? Would like something that has a WebUI, but that's not absolutely necessary.
My postfix server has been working great for the last 1-2 years. Lately the number of spams encreased (from 1-2 every day to aprox 8-10 every day per domain for some domains ).I post here the output of postconf -n. Maybe someone gives me some advices about what cat I change or how can I optimize. I must recognise that I don't fully understand details of how postfix and all the restrictions works together, but I will document every advice.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy client has finally had enough of being attacked via SPAM/Viruses and having his single email account for his company being destroyed. Since it is a single account and he does not want to add additional accounts or create a new one(mail is hosted by ISP), I wanted to ask the forum on their opinion on using Fetchmail to download the POP3 mail and having it piped through SMAM Assassion or DSpam and or CLAM_AV or F-PROT. In addition to that I am going to use a corporate strength anti-virus such as F-prot(Been using for years) and really put this email through a microscope. I also was thinking of just blocking out all domains other than his clients list of domains so in other words block all and allow just the domains that we know are valid and are only from his clients. It is super restrictive but what I believe will end his issue.

Which method of spam reporting do the moderators prefer?
Using the spam reporting thread? Using the "Report this post" button? Or both?
I'm running FC10, with the sendmail that was part of it in Feb 09. Anyway, Up till now I've been using the user client to do spam filtering, But I'd like to start catching the spam at the sendmail level. What are my options today? I tried searching the forums and found a bunch of threads from 2001-2006, but I figured many of the ideas are now longer vaild.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI set up the spam wizard in Kontact/Kmail yesterday. I told it to put all the spam in the "Spam" folder. Seems the default is "Trash". Well, now it sticks everything in the "Trash" folder. Everything including standard e-mails that should go into the inbox. I've tried a few things. The program seems to be hung up somehow. Is there a way to go into a terminal and do some repairs?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a web server that's hosting a few sites, and there are a few WordPress instances with these sites. With Wordpress, whenever a user registers with the site, they receive an email. With my server, it sends mail via Sendmail. This is all fine and good, except no matter what, it's flagged as spam. Is there any way to correct this?Keep in mind that this isn't a mail server, and the only reason the server ever sends mail is for new wordpress users and password resets.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter reading everything that says you don't need an anti-virus for Linux. OR Linux doesn't get viruses. Guess what I have a Virus. I don't know which one, but it is sending out spam emails from my webmail, MSN, account. I do not have a local client installed. I am guessing it is linking into MSN through Pidgin, getting the addresses there, and sending the spam, somehow, through MSN. Actually one MSN and one Hotmail account. I also have not been able to find an anti-virus program for Ubuntu. There do not seem to be any listed in the software repositories that Ubuntu links into. How do I get rid of it? My contacts are starting to get upset.
View 9 Replies View RelatedVery new to Ubuntu and Linux so this may be a simple one. I've recently setup an Ubuntu Server 10.04 box as a mail relay running Postfix and Amavisd-new (Spamassassin & ClamAV) and this has been working really well. I started to get a few emails through today with the following header[URL]..(removed domain name) The name's always in quotes and random. The fqdn is that which I configured in postfix as $myhostname. I can't figure out how this address is being used. This box is only used for incoming mail and acts as a relay to Exchange. Exchange doesn't send out through it. The only thing that may be going outwards is bounced messages from Exchange which are almost exclusively to linkedin.
The fqdn isn't public. This box isn't even part of our internal domain, it's just named that way with manual DNS added. Anyone seen this before? Will this header have been part of the message when it arrives at postfix or could this have been added by postfix itself?
