I have a big file 1,3 GB that I need to transfer over a slow link, I started doing it for 3 weeks ago over sftp, the problem is that when the download reached 95% completion the link broke! Unrecoverable.I don't intend to restart the whole download process, is there a way or a linux software that could do the job in a bittorrent like matter ? For example:just downloading the missing part of the file ? (I have control over the server in order to install or configure what it needs to be done).
I am running 5.4 64 bit I am trying to connect via ssh on a laptop running Ubuntu. I receiving this error. Cannot display locations "sftp://10.66.77.201" Host key verification failed I searched around the web and some say that I should have a .ssh folder but I don't see one under the home folder. I re-installed ssh but I am still having problems.
I have problems to update my box and get this error:Failed to download./repodata/6a45e4f3d9d376d002a3a59ea65 53fcc5a2d8456-deltainfo.xml.gz from Index of /update/11.2 but when I test this:Index of /update/11.2-test it works smoothly. Any ideas?
As a Windows user, I generated a pair of DSA keys from CoreFTP Lite and sent it to a third party that runs an SFTP server. They told me that a valid DSA key needs to have ssh-dsa at the start and the username@systemname at the end. CoreFTP generated neither the ssh-dsa header nor the username@systemname footer. I tried with WinSCP and it didn't generate them either. Is there a difference between how SFTP works between Windows and Linux? If I put a useraccount@systemname at the end of the text will it work? How would the Linux system validate that my system is called "systemname"? If it can't validate, what is the purpose of adding it?
Well a bit earlier today I was trying to install the latest VLC following steps from this link:it instructed:Code:sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome-media-player-development/developmentsudo apt-get updateBut after the sudo apt-get updateI started getting errors at the end.. here is my log after running it:
Code: sendblink23@sendblink23-Ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get update Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com lucid Release.gpg
When I try to check for updates and also when I try and press "reload" in the Synaptic package manager, I get this error: Failed to fetch [URL] Failed to fetch [URL] Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Sometimes, I also get this red triangle with an exclamation point in my toolbar thing that tells me I have repository problems, or something along those lines. I'm assuming they're all related. I've been looking around, and I noticed people having similar errors and just being able to uncheck something in my Software settings, or something like that. In my case, I'm not exactly sure what to uncheck though, don't wanna screw anything up any more! I'm using 10.10, and I believe I'm using Maverick. I'm not sure what that means though. I've only recently started using Linux.
When trying to download any software on Ubuntu 10.10, I receive the error message "Failed to download package files - check your internet connection". I am however connected to the internet.
Whenever i go to the update manager and check for updates i get this
Failed to download repository information
Check your Internet connection. i am connected to the Internet and the connection is obviously fine because i am posting this, same thing happens when i go through terminal to i am currently running ubuntu 11.04
W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/alexftimie/...source/Sources 404 Not Found , W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/alexftimie/...-i386/Packages 404 Not Found , E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
W: Failed to fetch [URL] Hash Sum mismatch E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Tried 3 different mirrors all have the same error. I assume this is the same issue we had a while back where one package was messing things up. Mirrors I my sources.list
Been a while since I had the 'update information is outdated' irritant, but it is back with me now. It was on 10.04 anyway and I am now running 10.10. I've checked for updates manually and get:
W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error: [URL] maverick Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 16126D3A3E5C1192 W: Failed to fetch [URL] W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
My other Ubuntu (10.10) box is happily downloading updates but I can't remember the last time any updates were available for the box in question.
I tried to download some images from google using wget:where wget cbk0.google.com/cbk?output=tile&panoid=2dAJGQJisD1hxp_U0xlokA&zoom =5&x=0&y=0However, I get the following erros:
W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.170 80] , W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.170 80] , E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. not sure why its not allowing me to download these packages through the update manager. Im fairly sure these are default sources that come with Maverick and would very much like to have these packages.
Whenever I go to update I press check and I get "Failed to download repository information Check your Internet connection." Well obviously I don't need to check my internet connection if I'm posting this thread. I am using Google Chrome and it's as fast as can be. When I run
I am beginner in Ubuntu. I am unable to install any software. For example, whenever I try to use Ubuntu software center to install VLC media player, it shows following notice: Failed to download repository information Check your internet connection
I searched on google about installing software on Ubuntu and tried to use the command I found for installing VLC media player on terminal. First I typed command sudo apt-get update And I get this on my terminal ----- Ign [URL] lucid Release.gpg ..... E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Then I typed the following command to install VLC : sudo apt-get install vlc vlc-plugin-pulse mozilla-plugin-vlc Then I get the following information on terminal: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Couldn't find package vlc
I just recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop and was attempting to install Wine on it this morning. I went through the proper procedure listed on the site, but once I get back to the Software Center and hit "install" it gives me an error a second later saying "Failed to Download Package Files. Check your Internet connection."
The red updater icon alerted me to about a dozen patches, which started to install, then halted with an error: Download failure from download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/non-oss. When I try to update repositories, the same error recurs for that repo and also for .../oss and download.opensuse.org/update/11.2/,
If I attempt to "register for support to get update repository," clicking on Configure Now and Next produces the same three error messages: "Failed to download", one for each repository. The screen then returns to Registration, with another error message "an error occurred while connecting to the server". Clicking on the Detail button show exactly "ERROR:"
This AMD desktop machine with this install of 11.2 has updated many times in the last few weeks. Has something changed? The update servers do respond to a ping, so they are up and apparently I have connectivity.

Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. I have been getting this for a while now complete with a red triangle with an ! in it on the panel.
