So im trying to un rar my rar. files. I use 7-zip, and winrar, Every time i try to unrar them it says broken file, cannot open file. This happens to nearly most of my rar files in the last few weeks, idk what else to do,
I have a file with 5 columns. Column 4 contains numbers. Is it possible to split the file into multiple files using a condition for the contents of column 4 i.e if column 4 contains a value between 0-10 then print the lines to a new file called less_than_10.txt
I have a log file on ubuntu 10.04 that has 500 lines of log data in it. What command could I use in a terminal to split the single 500-line file into generate ten files each with 50-lines of log files each?
I have made the simple mistake of using dolphin to rename several picture files of types jpg and png. I have no problem viewing them and Ubuntu still knows which is which (if i view their properties it will state File Type: JPEG or PNG) but unfortunately Ubuntu Tweak does not allow you to chose them without the extension (I am trying to change my login background using this) So what i need is something that can scan several files, determine the file type, and add an appropriate extension to it. I have found several to do so for music files but none for images. I am using Ubuntu 11.04 at the moment.
I've been trying to sort this out for several hours and I?m totally lost? I?ve been searching around, but haven?t found the solution to my problem. I have a directory with 100 files. I need to copy 10 lines of each files (let?s say from line 45 to 55) into one unique file. So I guess I could use sed ?w, but I didn?t manage to write the right script. I also tried using a loop to create 100 different files, each one with the 10 lines) to concatenate them later on. But I only got 1 file, not 100.
Here is the deal: my school purchased a test prep which they distributed to us, the only problem is that it is for windows. When I try to run the exe in wine the program windows pops up but the screen is blank (i can see the menu bar and and the title bar). It appears that most of the information is located in a folder as html files (separated into chapters for each section) with links to all the figures/tables/questions (also html files). This morning I have been trying to find a way to compile the html files into a format that I can read without having to hunt for each individual html file. I tried navigating with firefox but had to change each individual link before I could do that (very time consuming), I tried using doxygen (the GUI front end) to convert it to Latex/rtf/html/xml (all the formats) but did not have any success (It could be that I am using the app wrong). I tried opening some java applications found within the application data folder in hopes that it would bring up the navigator without success. And even tried installing java in wine (unsuccessfully) to see if that was the missing key to run the program in wine.
My question is, do I just have to fork out the $500+ that it would cost me to purchase the books instead of using the school provided program (free to us)? or is there a relatively simple way to compile these files into a format that could be readable.
tl;dr - have multiple html files for a windows native program that won't run on wine that I would like to convert to a more easily readable format (i.e. chm, pdf, etc), is it possible?the program was legally acquired through my school, I did not download or pirate it. I am not looking to distribute it, just looking to use it for my own studying purposes without spending $500+ or buying a windows license/computer.
I have a file which contains the data i retrieved through prstat and an array that contains all the unique process ID's of that particular file. i want to compare each and every line in the file with each and every element of the array so that i can create multiple files for the multiple value in the array.
I'm working on some scheduled task script files to keep nightly backups of some of our database information in place, and it's a bit annoying when they blow up. I know how to redirect stdout and stderr to a flat file I can view when I come in, and I know that 2>&1 maps them both to the same file (whatever was named in 1). However, I'm running into some cron-time situations where it's easier to have the two streams together, and other cron-time situations where it's easier to have them separated. I can't really tell which is going to happen; is there some way I could create both kinds of output file for my scripts, so that I've got a std_err only file and an interleaved std_out/std_err file?
Note: I've looked at the 'tee' command, but I don't think it will work for what I'm after. 'tee' appears to only work with stdout; I'm trying to work with stderr.
I am using Xfce as the desktop enviroment and Mozilla Firefox as the webrowser. Within the webrowser window, I do File>Save Page As. I save it, and the result is almost always foo.html and directory foo_files. But I think under KDE I could choose the format, one of them being something like "Single page" (only one file; the colecction of .png, etc is embedded into that file). And this is the format I want Xfce (or Firefox) to use when downloading to hdd.
Being new to this area .I have been assigned a task which i am unable to do . Can any one please help me .
I have requirement where i have input file XYZ_111_999_YYYYMMDD_1.TXT and with header and series of Numbers and Footer.
I want to create a mutiple output files with each file having a seperate code which is stored in text file and create XYZ_222_999_YYYYMMDD_1.TXT . and add date in the contents next to series of numbers .Like this
A function by name abc is called in many files. I want to copy all the lines with the function call to an output file.A simple grep on function name doesn't help me as the function call is spanning across multiple lines as follows:
abc(parameter1, parameter2, parameter3);
So I want to copy all the three lines (till semicolon) to the output file. The problem is because there are more than 200 calls for the same function and I cannot do it manually
I often use the rpl command to make changes to multiple html files at once. For example:
rpl -R '<br />' '<br /><br />' mydirectory However, I haven't been able to figure out how to change multiple lines. For example, let's say I want to change all occurrences of :
When I click on the "Browse" button on a web application, I get "File Upload" a dialog. However, I cannot select more than one files. I know it's not a big deal to most people, but I am writing a web page that allows users to upload multiple files at once. So, this is like a show stopper for me.
Here is my Fedora version: Linux saigon 2.6.30.10-105.2.23.fc11.i586 #1 SMP Thu Feb 11 06:51:26 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Does anyone know of any software that will convert a few csv's into a single xml?I have a windows program that has been doing it up until now but the info is pulled from one of my linux servers and then sent back to it afterwards, im looking to script it all rather and keep everything on the linux box.
Viewing any source on the Web results in partial loading of data followed by broken up multiple lines. It is occurring now with this post. Paging down I get three lines of "submit new thread" until at the bottom are multiple lines (no characters) after "forum rules". I put it to my network provider who cannot come up with any idea of what may cause it. It cannot be the hardware as the same condition exists on two PC's. Both are on 11.2.
I've had Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my desktop since it's release. Up until an hour ago, it was working fine. I clicked on an update from the update manager, now booting into a graphical mode is completely broken, (the start-up load hangs at 'Check Battery State ... [0k]'). I restarted my computer, and booted into safe mode, and launched the terminal. This all works fine. I then typed :
Code: sudo gdm start into the command prompt, hoping that I would be able to start things manually. Instead, it spat out this: Code:
gdm-binary[230]: WARNING: Unable to load file '/etc/gdm/custom.conf'. No such file or directory. gdm-binary[230]: WARNING: Unable to find users : no seat-id found. gdm-binary[230]: WARNING: Gdm Display: display lasted 0.070467 seconds
The last line was printed about 8 times, with slightly different times, before it gave up and failed. Some information which might help, I have Gnome 2, Unity and KDE (not sure which version), installed. My graphics card is the GTX 275, and I have driver the Nvidia driver 275.21. So yeah, I think the update has gone and moved custom.conf somewhere, but I have no idea on how to fix it. I have a graphics programming assignment due on Friday and I would be eternally grateful if I could get this fixed well before then.
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a 100 GB partition of my 120 GB hard disk. I left the other 20 GB as free space. I moved my data (about 20 GB) to my home folder. Everything was fine for two days. Then I installed a few packages with the help of Update Manager.he installation, I was asked to reboot. Upon reboot, I was always taken to the Memtest86+. It was as if GRUB wasn't detecting my ubuntu installation. Then I installed Ubuntu again by taking up 20 GB of the existing 100GB partition. I am currently using this installation. When I try to access the older installation (the 80 GB one), I find that all my data in my home folder is broken. (screenshot attached - homefolderbroken.png). homefolderbroken.jpgWhen I see the properties of the 80GB partition, I can find my data is still present (screenshot attached - data.png
The usual answer is debian's ldd(1) and I found broken things due to past lib abuses I previously hadn't understood I'd did - or rather hadn't realized because by looking it "looked ok and worked" - but i had problems. many i fixed.
After I ran a new script: it showed some i'd STILL missed after carefully re-doing /lib by hand (and using /var/lib/dpkg/info/libs.list)
I just made something that might be nice. seems to be the only thing that does it. but its' small and quick and has (tty/stdout) output still.
the had part isn't finding info, objdump(1) does that wonderfully : it's using it..
first of i'm a total noob at Linux / Ubuntu but i still want to learn more about it and stop being a windfag .Anyhow. i first of installed Ubuntu 9.10 and then updated to Ubuntu 10.(04?). and everything was running smooth and good. but when i started my com the next day i got some broken files that was broken. I thought "Okey.. I'll just go to the "Broken Fixer" and get it over with" and i went in to the broken fixer and like marked all and everything stared to update. i went of and got me some coffee and got back to my comp and got this error.
Code: E: /var/cache/apt/archives/ia32-libs_2.7ubuntu21_amd64.deb: subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2
was attepting a boot loop fix when my ubuntu froze half way through uninstalling gnome, I am unable to boot in any mode from the grub and get errors about failing to load duv or sys or something of the kind, I cannot reach any command line either...Now if I boot in a live cd my hdd is visible but I cannot mount it, no problem mounting a windows drive but the ubuntu one will now I get many errors such as a job is pending and others that are similar, I have tried last night for 5hours (not an exagguration) many solutions to get it mounted.
If I boot the windows hdd the ubuntu drive does not display in my computer and.I have the cable and jumpers set correctly.Basically I cannot view what is on the drive at all, I'm wondering is there anyway to copy the drive to another hdd or usb other than what I have done, or could you suggest something to make one of these methods work? Thanks a lot, I need to get some very important files back from the drive, and from now on I will backup A LOT!
Iam reading a file using C-sh script after manipulating the variables I need to dump into a new file. This in working fine but I couldn't retain the multiple spaces and tabs in a same line. For readability I want to print it back as I read. Now script treating multiple tabs as onl tab or space.
I run BIND9 in Debian on my server, and did a dist-upgrade last night. Prior to the dist-upgrade, everything worked fine. It does not appear that any of the configuration or zone files were changed. Right now, I am seeing ServFail replies to the A queries:
I wanted to copy one file to multiple new files. I have an idea to write a script and do the operation. But here i m looking for any particular command to do this operation.
I have files a, b, c and d. They're all relatively large and are served up by a static web server optimized for this purpose. I can get requests that look like this:
/abcd /ad /bacdac ...
Each request is basically a request for a concatenation of the files in the order of the letters. The list of possible requests is finite, but large enough that disk space will run out very quickly and be very expensive if I create all possible files via concatenation. Is there a way to create a pointer file like abcd that is essentially a multi-file symlink that first points to a then to be then to c then to d? So if the contents of the files were as follows:
