Running fedora 14 and evolution. Recently when I attempt to start evolution I am getting a segmentation fault error. Not sure what info will be needed to resolve the problem, feel free to request whatever info you feel may be necessary.Steps I have taken at this time are remove and install the program, no effect. Run yum update on all programs, no effect.

This issue seen with Vuze 4.3.10 and gcc-java-4.3.3-i4 running on Slackware 13.0 32-bit.Installed Vuze 4.3.10 from Vuze_4.3.1.0_linux.tar.bz2 downloaded from Sourceforge and tested OK as non-root user using ~/.azureus configuration from previous 4.2.0.8. OK. Did not use for a week. Opened the Slackware 13.0 32-bit DVD torrent using Firefox 3.5.3. I've been having a bit of trouble with Nautilus for the past few days; as soon as I log in, Nautilus starts opening "Starting file manager" windows uncontrollably, and I have to 'killall nautilus' to stop it.
If I try and run nautilus from the terminal, I'm merely given the output code...

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop's been locking up in Linux (Ubuntu, Backtrack, Puppy) periodically for a while now. When it locked up, it was always immune to the magic of SysRq, which I thought might indicate a hardware problem. It became so bad that I had to stop using the laptop.
Today, when I turned it on and tried to boot into Fedora 12, I got the following error (just once, it just locked up at various points during the splash screen after this once):

All the seemingly missing letters were really missing, not my typos.
As you can see, kernel version is 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 and my laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ 250N (Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHZ). Note that with the other remaining kernels from the updates, nothing ever happened other than the locking up. The core temperatures hover pretty high, about 55-60C peak but this is still below the critical temp. Memtest came up clean when the problem first started happening.
Ubuntu 10.04. I want to change the startup sound and the mail alert sound (incoming mail) for Evolution Mail Client. I go to System > Preferences > Sound, and all I get are themes preset. I do not have option to browse to wav files. I also do not see a browse option in Email Settings. Do I have to change an actual file?

I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. I have been using Fedora 14, which has Evolution 2.32.1 but have recently also installed openSUSE 11.3, which has Evolution 2.30.1.2. I would like to make openSUSE my primary distribution, and so I would like to restore my Evolution settings from Fedora, but Evolution complains that the backup file is invalid. I have tried copying the folders in the backup to their appropriate locations in openSUSE with no luck. I have also tried manually copying with instructions for older versions of openSUSE, but with no luck.
An obvious guess at what might be the problem seems to be that I am trying to restore settings from a newer version to an older version? An obvious thing to try would be to upgrade to Evolution 2.32, but Evolution has a long list of dependencies so before jumping into that fun I thought I would ask if anyone else has had similar problems and found a straight-forward solution. I still have access to my emails in Fedora so this is not hugely pressing, and if upgrading to 11.4 will do the trick then I can just wait for that.

Because the exchange plugin didn't work i uninstalled evolution and removed the ppa. Now when i try to install evolution from the software centre i get this: Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.

I moved all my files in my home directory to a new computer. This old machine is Ubuntu 9.10 and the new one is Ubuntu 10.10. These files included my original ".evolution" directory. But on the new computer, when I run Evolution, it seems to ignore or not understand this directory, and wants me to set up all new accounts. There is a lot of email saved locally in that ".evolution" directory I need to keep. How can I get this newer version of Evolution to use those old files?

I have an issue with evolution I use it on two computers. A Eee-Pc 1000h with '11.04' during the week (agenda / mail), and on the weekends a do a back up on a Toshiba Qosmio G20 '10.10' I press import or is it restore and everything is good. Except for today I am getting 'Invalid Evolution backup file' each time. I have tryed purging evolution. Even uninstalling it but to no avail.

I tried to boot the F12 live CD and it hung. I got into a tty session and found /var/log/Xorg.0.log which I have attached. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 3 video card, running on Pentium 4. F11 live CD booted fine.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI did a Yum update last Friday. It was done before 5.6 was released so I still have 5.5 + various updates. Yum is now giving me a segmentation fault when I try to run it. I believe it has to do with an improperly synchronized version of sqlite which was updated and then Yum stopped working. I'm guessing that installing the latest Yum RPM will fix the dependency issues. Will this throw me out of sync with for instance updating to 5.6?

my KDE is making segmentation fault. KDE is not required to restart but this segmentation fault is making every time (after 2 min) when i login to kde/fedora. this is making me annoying.. my linux info is following:

I updated kernel to 2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop yesterday and now i have problem with shutdown.
Everything goes as usual and system shutting down, but after all monitor keeps to work, and computer also doesn't halt.The last two lines i see on screen are:The system will be halted immediately Segmentation Fault Also i hear that some cooler or may be hard disk stops after this. Some time ago I had to reinstall all my packages under 64-bit OpenSuse 11.2. After that I can't get Skype working - Skype always gives me "segmentation fault" when trying to execute it (from command-line).
I've followed steps recommended in wiki, I've tried different versions (32-bit as well as 64-bit RPMs) downloaded from different repositories (including old 1.4.0.xx). Nothing changes anything.
I don't have any webcam and I've never had one, so I guess it cannot be related to that.
I just have installed Karmic Koala and have a problem running Firefox. I`ve seen that this is quite a common problem, but since I`m a newbie, I have no idea what to do. I have not found any solutions that would solve my problem yet. Every time I try to load a website including flash advertisings, Firefox just quits.

If there is any connection problems, it attempts the connection again. My problem is that after exactly 146 times, there is a Segmentation Fault. Apparently this happens in opening the socket, which is not successful after this amount of attempts.

I have a problem with a directory which contains my music collection. It can't be opened; all other directories work fine. I can cd into my ~/Music directory, but ls gives segfault and KDE programs hang when trying to open this directory. The problem probably has appeared after the rename of subdirectory under the Windows (don't remember particular ext3 driver; can check tomorrow).fsck says that the partition is fine. The whole disk is mounted on the single partition. Windows is located on another physical disk.Is there any way to recover my directory?
