I'm running Ubuntu, with the Gnome desktop. I need a tone generator that will allow me to generate a timed sequence of tones. To be more specific, I need to be able to do something like a one-second 457.9 Hz tone, followed by a three-second 368.5 Hz tone. Is there anything out there that can do what I need?
View 8 RepliesI'm trying to resolve an issue with a dial up modem and really need some help. I haven't used dial up in many years and not even sure how to approach the problem. Making matters worse, I haven't had a landline phone in years, so am trying to troubleshoot this problem and each time have to take it back to a friend, for whom I have installed Kubuntu 10.04. All works fine on my high speed ethernet and wireless, but I can't get the dial up she needs to work.
The system is a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop. KInfoCenter reports an ATI Technologies SB400 AC'97 Modem Controller. I know the modem hardware is fine, as it was working perfectly when I removed Windows XP and installed Kubuntu 10.04.I tried using KPPP, however KPPP will not let me set the DNS to Automatic...it is grayed out. So, I've installed both wvdialer and Gnome Dialer. Gnome Dialer seemed to set up fine and all user info. number to dial, etc. was set up.The problem is that when a telephone line is connected to the modem and you attempt to dial, no dial tone is detected.I don't know how to approach this, not how to troubleshoot it. I would be happy to provide any logs or output here, if someone can tell me what to do.
I would really like to disable how on most KDE programs the boxes that have text in them it has a two tone line scheme, I am probably not explaining it too well but I will attach a picture. I like the color scheme I have now, but for some reason it uses black for the second color. I have looked in appearance settings and haven't found anything that changes it.

Suddenly I get a consistent very. very loud tone at boot of my PC LInuxOS on a Lenovo 300 N200 laptop. Didn't use to get that. Also it starts smelling burnt but nothing is hot.

The script turns all the mp3 files into a m3u file.So far I have found the command "ls -1 >playlist.m3u *.mp3" this works great but what I want is to drag a file into the folder an album is in and then double click and it will run the command. I tried making a launcher and put that command on it, it seems to open up a terminal window but no playlist.m3u is generated. Could you tell me what I am doing wrong?

I have installed matlab at /home/trans/Matlab and xilinx at /home/trans/Xilinx. Though I have sysgen_startup.m at /home/trans/Xilinx/ISE_DS/ISE/sysgen/util if I try to run sysgen by using command "./sysgen" I get error as
ERROR: Could not find SysGen startup script at "/home/trans/Xilinx/ISE/sysgen/util/sysgen_startup.m".
As per the above mentioned link I found sg_config at /home/trans/Xilinx/ISE_DS/ISE/sysgen/bin/lin and used command "./sg_config -install_to_matlab /home/trans/Matlab" I get message like this

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with Amarok 2.3.1 and I am having some problems with the Automatic Playlist Generator. I have not found my solution on these forums and I have searched google, and I am fairly new to using Amarok 2.
Every time I use the Automatic Playlist Generator, only 30 tracks are introduced into the playlist. Why is this? I don't want a limit to the amount of tracks which are selected.

I have left the system running at that point for almost 2 hrs, with no way to get past that. System isn't locked up. It has never done this before. I'm recompiling my kernel on a dell latitude c600 running lenny as I type, and it's taking forever, so far upward of 4 hours.I think I'm getting drivers for ever piece of computing hardware since the univac So I googled "a kernel conf creator" and got [URL]... Its a nice, clean method for finding what hardware your using... you just run lspci cpuinfo make xconfig and put in all the info yourself. So I was thinking: this is exactly the kind of dull, repetitive behavior that computers were made for. Is there a program that can find my hardware info, and make the.config itself, with very little user input?Or should I reinstall debian on another partition and steal the .config from it? Or should I man it up and do it myself?

I have never worked with databases before, and would like to create one to be a "workout generator." i.e. have a name of workout, list of equipment, list of exercises, and instructions. Then be able to search by any of the above parameters (for example dumbells and pullups) to get a list of options. I assume a relational database is my best option, but my brief looks at SQL etc they seem quite complicated. A GUI frontend and good documentation are highly desired. GTK is also preferred.

When booting into GNOME, the desktop image flashes on the screen and the second the bars on top and bottom try to appear the system boots out of the desktop and returns to the log on screen. When i logged into a gnome desktop i got this message: "The GNOME session manager was unable to read file:'/home/(desktop name)/ICEauthority'. If this file exists it must be readable by you for GNOME to work properly. try logging in with failsafe session and removing the file." What commands do i use for that? or do i need to do something else?
