Software :: Best Console Based Calendar / Time Manager (or Backend)?

Jan 20, 2010

Looking for console based calendar / time manager (or backend)? Well is there a good one to be known? Maybe else than 'when'? Joe Barr has written a nice intro to the program in his column at linux. [URL]. Is there some backend and frontend that could be used? Or alternatively, could it be possible to have them on an Kerberos/Ldap system or exchange server? What are the best and multiplatform single cal database possibility?

Ubuntu :: Date And Time / Calendar Window Out Of Display

Nov 16, 2010

I'm using ubuntu Maverick on a Dell 1545 and I'm pretty much a newbie to ubuntu. Most of the things have been fine so far, I just plugged it into a proxyless internet connection and adjusted my location for time zone (I've been using a porxy server previously for internet which didn't allow changes in location and time zone work) and since then that calendar has moved out of the scope on the top right corner of my screen and I'm unable to move it.

Red Hat / Fedora :: PNG Backend Error While Installing Cairo-1.6.0 - Requested PNG Backend Could Not Be Enabled

It claims the following upon ./configure --prefix=/usr configure: WARNING: Could not find libpng in the pkg-config search path checking whether cairo's PNG backend could be enabled... no configure: error: requested PNG backend could not be enabled I've done some searching and found that libpng.pc is in my /usr/lib/pkgconfig/ directory and that the following commands don't do the trick:

Software :: Share Calendar Application - Allows Users To Schedule Time / Days Off

Oct 20, 2010

I have a select few users (finance dept.) at work who want to be able to write to a calendar based program on the network that allows them to schedule time / days off. The calendar or program needs to be writable by only a few administrators so that once time off is approved by their manager, he or she is the one who would access the application and submit the entry on it's specified date / time.

I would prefer if the back end is SQL database compatible but doesn't need to be since at this point I need to find anything that will fulfill this request. Obviously this sounds like a web / php based application that would run on my Apache Intranet web server

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Console Based Music Players?

Mar 22, 2011

I wonder which are the main disadvantages of using console based music players like cmus. I was looking around for reviews and comparisons with GUI music players but didn't find a lot of information which, to me, is a sign that console based players are so much worse off that there is no need to even compare them to their graphical relatives.

However, as I see it, I gain both speed and free up system resources by running a light weight music player in the terminal rather than one with a GUI. Then, I'm not at all very knowledgeable when it comes to audio players and music files so I'm thinking I'm missing something here. But what? Do I lose some tagging functionality, playlist or equalizer options or maybe even sound quality due to different usage of sound drivers or something? Or do people simply stay away from players like cmus just because they can't point and click with the mouse? (I guess it might be hard to get them to work intuitively with USB-attached mp3-players, but that's not a probelm for me.)

General :: Automation - Good Console-based Program To Automatically Manage Music Collection?

May 31, 2011

I like the convenience of having a music player that manages the placement of my music files based on the tags of the files, sorting into a root music folder with Artist/Album/01 - Track Title.mp3 sort of hierarchy. Previously, I was using Banshee for this feature, as even most of the other gui music players don't have this library management feature. Now, I've been trying to use console-based applications, and I have been using mpd + ncmpcpp fairly successfully. When I download new music, it is downloaded to a specific folder, and that's not part of my music collection. My previous workflow would be to open a gui filemanager at the downloaded folder, and drag and drop those songs onto banshee, which would then make a copy of those files in my library hierarchy. Currently, I'm doing the same thing, using Banshee only as a sort of import program, then closing it and updating my mpd database, and there we go.

If at all possible, I'd like to automate this to something where I can define a watch folder, and when some magical program sees new music in said watch folder, it identifies the correct place for the files to be copied into my heirarchy, renaming folders and files to the correct format. I know I've written a lot describing, but I don't actually think this too uncommon a task, and I'm wondering if anyone has a solution for my problem.

Debian :: Bash Script Based On Time Of Day

Mar 25, 2016

I'm trying to get a bash script to do different things based on the time of day, but at least once a day the test fails:

Code: Select allNOW=$(date +%k%M)
if [[ "$NOW" -ge 1000 ]] && [[ "$NOW" -le 2200 ]];then
        alarm lon
else
        alarm loff
fi

This is the error, and line 59 is the second quoted above:

Code: Select all/home/electrolux/bin/ts.sh: line 59: [[: 059: value too great for base (error token is "059")

The script is run every minute, and this error only occurs at 12:59AM, or 00:59.

I presume the problem is either $NOW is being set to 059, or the testing is seeing 0059 as 059. I think the latter, because for the rest of midnight 'til 00:58 the script works. And with some Googling it seems that the leading 0 is making test treat the number as octal... is there a way to tell it it is decimal?

Perhaps this is just some poor time-testing code? Looking at it I don't think it will cope with set time period that crosses midnight..... there's probably just a command to do what I want, isn't there? I know I could have two different scripts cron'd for the different time periods, but it would be much more preferable to be just the one.

General :: Review The Boot-time Info That's Going To The Console?

Feb 18, 2011

I'd really like to be able to examine all the information that flys off the top of my terminal when my system boots (off of fd0, the only way I've done it, so far): review of "similar threads" yields nothing; seemingly not a man pages item; have not found any how-to's that cover this; the daemons for logging are third-to-the-last before logon prompt (and still displayed, the ONLY reason I know THAT); seems like it should be a compile-time sw-switch settng (sub-optimal since I'm still not comfortable with compiling kernels); but I was hoping it's already being captured in some log file somewhere that I'm as yet unaware exists. I do realize that if I had a printing console, this would be unnecessary.

Security :: IPTABLES - Restrict Internet Access Based On Time Of Day And MAC Address

Feb 6, 2010

I am trying to configure my Linux router to restrict Internet access for one computer on my LAN. It needs to be restrictive based on the time of day and the days of the week. I am using the MAC address of the computer to single out the one computer that needs to be blocked. However, this is my first attempt at making any rules with iptables, and I am not sure if I am doing this right. If some one can take a look at this I would greatly appreciate it. This is what I have done so far.

Here is my thinking. Create a new target. Check the MAC address, if it is NOT the offending computer return to the default chain. If it is the offending computer check that we are between the allowed hours and dates and ACCEPT. If we are not within the time/date range then drop the packet.

Code:

Here I am trying to route all packets regardless of the computer on the LAN into the blocked_access chain for checking.

Code:

Is it a good idea to route all traffic through the blocked_access chain? I do run other servers that are accessible from the Internet, so I am not sure how this setup will affect that. I also use shorewall on the router to setup iptables for me. How would I integrate this with shorewall?

I am using squid to block access when he is using the web browser. However, he is still able to play games(World of Warcraft) and the like.

I am using Debian sid, iptable(1.4.6), shorewall(4.4.6), kernel 2.6.32-trunk-686.

Networking :: Finding A Simple Web-based Group File Manager?

Jun 2, 2010

Is there a simple web-based solution for a group looking to securely share files online? The software needs to run on our own servers due to regulatory laws. I want users to be able to go to a web site, request an account (which I should be able to accept or reject), and upload/download/manage files in a web-based (preferably ajax-y) file manager. File access controls (via users/groups) is desirable.Yes, I know that SSH/SFTP is the 'proper' solution, but many of the users will be office workers and installing an SFTP client and configuring it is too advanced for them. Same goes for Samba+VPN setups...
