Now I have to do a 3minute long simulation in which during the firstnute the bandwidth is 1000Mbit/s, 500Mbit/s during the second minute and 1000Mbit/s during ththird one....Does anybody know how can i do this type simulation

Software :: Acoustic Simulation Program Or - Sound Wave Simulation Program

Feb 21, 2010

I am looking for a very particular sound wave simulation program. To get an understanding of what i want let me describe it to you in a different way.

Imagine your look at a bowl of water from above and you poke the water at a specific frequency you will see wave patterns showing. Well im after a program that can generate that pattern with any particular frequency that i set, and to allow me to place different shapes and objects around the sound source or sources (i may want to use more than one sound source that may or may not be at the same frequency as first.) and see what kind of reflections i get.

I was also wondering if instead of a point sound source you could have an entire shape giving off a specific vibration. This will give very interesting results that i am also after.

There are some programs that show sound simulations that i have described but nothing that can do the requirements that i desire. Do any of you guys know of any programs that can do this? if not how much would it cost to build such a program?

Debian :: Fast Bandwidth And CPU But SLOW X11 Forwarding

Sep 26, 2010

I have a fast server running Debian 5 (I tried to upgrade and everything broke.

So I'll stay with Lenny):
Core 2 Duo
4Gb RAM
RAID 0
100mbit

When I use the -X command and try and run applications to my desktop, it is VERY slow. Firefox takes 20 seconds+ just for a right-click menu to appear. It is completely unusable because of this speed. And this is after a clean install of Debian 5.

I've tried on multiple clients (Windows and OS X) and it is always slow! Even though both computers and connections are fast. My home connection is 100mbit too....

So the problem is not bandwidth or resources, the problem must be with the server/software? Any ideas why tunneling X11 applications are so slow? Is there an alternative X11 software I could use on the server?

1 thread in FTP to this server gives 10MB/s (100mbit). So X11 should be fast? And btw, I'm tunneling through SSH.

Can figure out why it is so slow?

Ubuntu Servers :: Share Bandwidth Over Internet?

Sep 6, 2010

Is it possible to share bandwidth over Internet? A friend of me has made a little radio station with win-amp to screw around with. But as you can guess after 10 users the connection flips due to bandwidth limits. So we where wondering if we somehow can share both our bandwidth. I was thinking about perhaps linking some proxy's and combine that with load balancing... Something like that! But i'm not even sure if it's possible to do so.

Slackware :: Monitor And Log Internet Bandwidth Usage

Jan 2, 2010

I'm looking for a simple way to monitor and log my internet bandwidth usage. Not total network device usage, just internet usage.Something that provides a simple chart of daily, monthly, and yearly usage, but ignoring all bandwidth on my internal LAN.I notice several possible tools, such as vnstat, ntop, iftop. Yet all of them seem focused on tracking the entire network interface. I want to ignore LAN usage. I do not really care about LAN bandwidth.iftop seems intended only for on-the-fly usage and not cumulative logging. I can't tell whether vnstat or ntop can be configured to log only internet usage rather than all traffic through the network device.

I do not want to log every connection like squid. The utility should only log stats on a daily basis, but also be able to display cumulative totals from those daily entries.I don't need DNS resolution, port monitoring, etc.I prefer something that runs in the background as a service or daemon, but can provide statistics quickly with a terminal window. All I want is to view total daily, monthly, and yearly internet usage. Perhaps even pipe the output to a local email each day too.

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Bandwidth Does Not Share Effectively?

May 16, 2011

I have an Ubuntu box, and there are two another PCs with Windows XP at my home. There is a TP-Link WR340GD wireless broadband router, and a Motorola SB5101E cable modem. Maximum download speed of the Internet connection is about 6 Mbit/sec.While I'm starting some download processes on the Ubuntu box, the other two PCs get only small bandwidth according to their users, although download speed on my computer does not often exceed its maximum.

More precisely: I usually download files at approx. 1 Mbit. The other users complain about that I slow down the Internet connection at their computers, and tell me to stop using the Internet. Is it possible to improve the usage of internet bandwidth, and share the connection fairly between computers

Networking :: How To Allocate Percentages Of Internet Bandwidth For Different Local Connections?

May 18, 2010

I want to limit the usage of internet bandwidth. for example, the traffic going through eth0, 75% is for staff network, 25% is for public user.In addition, I setup shorewall on it for port forwarding and filtering, but I felt the traffic shaping of shorewall is complex. I don't need the specific TOS, but only the percentage. could you give me some suggestion?Which software or package I should use to achieve this goal?

Code:
num_nodes is set 50
INITIALIZE THE LIST xListHead
Loading scenario file...
Loading connection pattern file...
channel.cc:sendUp - Calc highestAntennaZ_ and distCST_
highestAntennaZ_ = 1.5, distCST_ = 550.0
SORTING LISTS ...DONE!

I have tried increasing the bandwidth and interface queue lengths but got no improvement. Please note that the same TCL scripts are running with other protocols like DSDV, AODV etc

Software :: Installing Old Version Of NS2 For ATM Simulation?

Jan 10, 2011

I am currently using Cent OS 5.4 and I was able to successfully install ns 2.34 on the machine and run a few test FTP simulations. The problem stems from the fact that the ns 2 installation used in the ATM simulation , in the link provided, uses ns2.1b7 or ns2.1b9.

I have tried to see if I could cheat and implement the patch for my ns2.34 installation but that failed flat out ( make failed with an incorrect parameter error) I then tried to download the older versions of ns that were used in the ATM Simulation, ns 2.1b9 and that failed too ( otcl make failed with g++ error) which i figured failed because I am using g++ version 4.1 . ( From the docuemntation, this particular version of the software had trouble with any g++ version > 3.2)

a) Is anyone aware of any ATM Simulation patch for the current version of ns i.e. ns 2.34?

b) Is there anyway I can confgure the patch for the ns2.1b9/7 version to work smoothly with the ns2.34 version I have installed?

c) What are the recommendations for me to install the ATM Simulation provided on the URL above.

Networking :: Internet Connection Really Slow In LAN

Dec 15, 2008

I use Slackware 12.1 and I have a big problem that I can't solve by myself. I'm connecting to a LAN where there are almost 20 PC connected, all with static IP.

my ip: 192.168.1.205
netmask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS server: 80.58.61.250, 80.58.61.254

I configured manually it but it doesn't works well. I set up the DHCP server on Windows 2003 so I tried to configure it with dhcp too. It gives addresses from 192.168.1.200 to 192.168.1.240 there are no PCs connected with DHCP at the moment, so my IP is only mine.

My problem is the following:

Networking :: Slow Internet Connection

Jan 17, 2010

I set up my linux router as a simple NAT router. I use CentOS 5.4. When I set up ISP proxy IP in the browser of client PC, Internet access is fast. When I remove ISP proxy IP from the browser, Internet access is slow.

ISP use transparent caching but I can use manual caching as well. Clients on my network with transparent caching get slow internet access and using ISP proxy get fast internet access.

ISP announce that we can use transparent caching or manual caching.

So, I set up my linux router with squid. I set up cache_peer TAG point to ISP's proxy IP. But the problem is the same. Using my squid proxy is slow and using ISP proxy directly is fast. All other network settings are correct.

How can I improve my internet connection using transparent caching. I don't want to set up proxy IP address on all clients.

Server :: Shell Scripting For Launching A Simulation Job?

Jun 27, 2011

I've been doing Finite Element simulations with the Ansys software for several years now, and recently I have been allowed to use a cluster running on Linux (it's a Sun Grid Engine, or SGE). Since I am quite newbie to this thing, I have read a lot on the internet to get more familiar with the Unix language. I found some example codes which are supposed to launch Ansys and read input files, but it does not work for me. Actually, what I want to do is simple:

1- I need to use Ansys 12.1 in batch mode, with the Academic Research license (which is called "aa_r");

2- The software should then read my input file (which is an APDL command file (in case you are familiar with it..)) and save the database and results in my working directory on the server.

The software is located in the following path:

/ansys_inc/v121/ansys/bin/ansys121

My working directory:

/home/myusername/

From what I've found on the web, I have to write a shell script that calls the software and specifies the details (batch mode, license name, input file, ...). Then I have to call this script by using the command "qsub".

Script: myjob.sh

Code:

#!/bin/bash
nohup /ansys_inc/v121/ansys/bin/ansys121 -b nolist -p aa_r -j jobname -i jobname.inp -o jobname.out 2>&1 &
